12:32 am Blood, Love & Rhetoric by Sleeps With Coyotes (NC-17)
Hello, all! So it's still the 1st somewhere in the world, right? Hawaii, maybe? Anyway, as you all may note based on my username, The X-Files is my first and truest love of all fandoms. I hope to bring you many stories of wonderful enjoyment this month. I enjoy a little bit of everything in this fandom, though there is a strong concentration on Krycek. But I will bring you het and slash, humor and angst. Have a good month!

Fandom: X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Krycek
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ciceqi
Author Website: Blood, Love & Rhetoric
Why this must be read:

I noticed in the memories, a lot of Sleeps With Coyotes fics have been recced, but never this one. For which I am both amazed and relieved (because it meant I could). I am a huge fan of Krycek and everything he brought to the show. Krycek was a sneaky bastard, out for himself, but other times he showed a tendency towards decency and a certain, odd passion for Mulder.

BL&R is my kind of Krycek. He's brutal and seemingly unforgiving. He's cunning and smart, smooth and sexy. He doesn't beg or grovel. He does his job and does it well. He gives Mulder what he wants and takes what he needs. But there's always more to Krycek than meets the eye.

The fic is also centered on one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite plays, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. The quote works perfectly to outline the fic. SWC is also one heck of a story teller and the fic just oozes sexiness in it's poetic writing.

Hello, I am [livejournal.com profile] misslucyjane and I'll be driving the van for Torchwood this month.

I am primarily a Jack/Ianto shipper so you'll be seeing my favorites of that ship, as well as some gen, some humor, some other pairings, and whatever else tickles my fancy.

Fandom: TORCHWOOD
Pairing: Jack Harkness/Ianto Jones
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] basingstoke
Author Website: Slashing Puppets
Why this must be read:

I'm going to start with blatant favoritism: this story was written for me, as you'll see in the notes. It doesn't hurt that it's witty, entertaining, captures the entire Torchwood team beautifully, and is smokin' hot.

Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] ishafel, and I'll be reccing BSG fic for June.

Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
Pairing: Gen: Kara, Lee
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] daphnaea
Author Website: LJ fic in memories
Why this must be read: This is a lovely portrait of Lee and Kara, Apollo and Starbuck, in all their guises.

"“This planet frakking blows,” Starbuck said with heartfelt bitterness, wiping cold water from her face ineffectually. They were trudging through the kind of steady, driving rain that impaired visibility and made dryness an impossibility without any of the cathartic drama of a good thunderstorm. It was the kind of rain that could go on for days. She figured the only thing saving them from hypothermia was their flightsuits, which had after all been designed with a cold far deeper than bad weather in mind. But without their helmets, water seeped slowly down their collars, dampening shirts and moods with equal efficacy. Their legs were coated in mud past their knees, and the ground sucked at their feet with every step.

“Yeah, well, next time you get shot down, do us both a favor and aim for a tropical zone, ok?” Apollo snapped back. "

10:42 am The Lucky Ones by Helen C (PG13)
Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
Pairing: Lee/ Dee
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Helen C on fanfiction.net
Why this must be read: Lee and Dee, and what is lost but not forgotten. This is Lee Adama: desperate and isolated and dependent on Dee for something he can't quantify. Helen C.'s writing is gorgeous, spare, evocative.

"Dee is absently tracing the scar on his chest, her touch so light that he barely feels it. It's relatively late in the day and the bunk room is deserted. Lee has drawn the privacy curtain around them, more out of habit than anything else; they're not doing much besides lying in each other's arms. Cottle smirked when he said, "No strenuous activity of any kind," and Lee doesn't want to face the man if he aggravates his injury while having sex."

02:17 pm Deep Water and Uncharted Waters by Elaine (NC-17)
Hello! My name is Jane and I'll be driving the Sentinel van this month. I'm a picky reader: I like long epics with OTPs (Jim/Blair for TS) and happy endings and that's pretty much what I'll be reccing this month. Since most of the Sentinel stories I've seen posted in the past are stand-alones, I'll be focusing on series (of epics! This month's word count is going to be astronomical!) There won't be many total posts (one or two a week), but you'll still have lots to read.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL

Why this must be read:

These are the sequels to Paying the Rent, which was already recommended (here).

I loved Paying the Rent, but I think Deep Water is even better: there is an interesting and well-developed mystery plot, Jim and Blair's relationship is realistically developed, and the story hooks in bits of canon in a beautifully organic and natural way. Best of all, Blair continues to grow as a character coming to terms with an awful past. The hurt/comfort here is exquisite, and even though Jim and Blair don't always get it right their dedication to each other is undeniable.

Uncharted Waters takes care of Lash, Borneo, and the question of whether or not Blair is going to join the police academy. I wish it had been a little longer (and that we got to see more of what happened between Deep Water and this story), but I love the way that the established relationship is handled and Blair's realization that he's not the only one in this relationship who had a traumatic childhood. My suggestion? Read the whole trilogy together and fall in love with the boys all over again.

09:54 pm What Remains by Kristophine (PG-13)

The "Sherlock Holmes" books have been a favorite of mine since childhood and I'm pleased that the fandom is featured this month.  The originnal stories have lasted through time and Sherlock Holmes was an inspiration for writers long before "fanfiction" was a word.

The stories can be divided arbitrarily into four groups:
     1.  canon tales which are a continuation of the books (like "The Seven Percent Solution")
     2.  parodies and pastiches (Schlok Holmes)
     3.  Holmes/Watson slash
     4.  Holmes/Mary Russell het.  (based on Laurie R. King's books)
I will select a few stories from each group.
