Sorry for that late start everyone. I've been in Greece for the past two weeks and totally forgot I volunteered for this month. And the sad thing is that I'm heading off to Banff on the 24th, so it'll be a short month, but I'll try to make the most of it. So my name's Amy. I'll try to get a good mix of fics for you, but I have to warn you that I mostly rec gen stuff. But anyways, let's get started.

Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] pyrebi
Author Website: Unknown

Why this must be read:

Because it's an adorable and sweet and oh so very funny short fic. Set in the five-things style, [livejournal.com profile] pyrebi puts a new twist on several common car games to make them more fitting to Sam and Dean. Enjoy the read and don't forget to send feedback!

08:41 am Terms of Psychic Warfare by Glossolalia (Adult)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Characters/Pairing[s]: Jason/Tim (Red Hood/Robin III)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] glossing
Author Website: http://www.exitseraphim.net/glossings/
Why this must be read:

Remember how I said I'd say, several times this month, "this is a story I wanted to write but this is better than mine would have been?" This is the archetype of such a story. There is nothing I can think of concerning Tim's relationship with Jason-as-a-dead-icon, Jason as a resurrected angry antihero, Jason as a former Robin, Jason as a fellow Batfamily member, and the concept of Robin itself that isn't touched on here, all absolutely pitch-perfectly. But then, Gloss wrote it, so perfection of pitch is just one of its virtues.

08:44 am Athosian for Beginners by Trinityofone (PG)
Hi, I'm Cat and I'm going to be driving the SGA van this month. I'm really excited about this, it's been almost 2 years since I put my name on the list to rec this fandom. Back then I was in the first heady rush of a new love. Two years later, my love has only grown and so much fabulous fic has been posted in this fandom, it's hard to know where to begin.

I read slash, het and gen, but I'm going to start my recs on the het side by reccing two of the stories posted for the Rodney/Teyla Thing-a-Thon earlier this year.

Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Pairing: Rodney/Teyla
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] trinityofone
Author Website: tales of an unreal city
Why this must be read:

One of the perpetual unanswered questions of the Stargate universe is why exactly almost everyone speaks the same language. The shows carefully avoid the issue entirely, but the fans have posited many possible solutions, the most popular of which is the idea of a universal translator built into the gate system. Trin takes the translator as given, a constant of life so pervasive it's nearly forgotten about by those who use it, until the day it unexpectedly breaks.

Without the translator, Teyla is un-moored, unable to make herself understood by the people she's come to depend on for friendship and emotional support. Trin explores Teyla's loneliness and sense of isolation with a deft skill, letting us feel her frustration and anger without villianizing any of the other characters. Countering that growing isolation is Teyla's gradually developing relationship with Rodney, as they work together to find a work-around for the missing translators. It's a richly nuanced story, with a wonderful Teyla pov and a perfect starting place for readers new to this somewhat-rare pairing.

09:30 am Lamentations by the-dala (unrated but probably PG-13)
Fandom: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
Pairing: Gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] the_dala
Author Website: Livejournal memories
Why this must be read: [livejournal.com profile] the_dala’s idea of Jack’s purgatory is quite different from canon’s. Rather than having to face endless sands, Jack has to confront the effect of his past actions the lives of those around him (or possibly he’s hallucinating).
In a take-off of A Christmas Carol, Jack encounters three ghosts (or figments brought forth from his guilty conscience)—the first of which is Kate Turner, the wife of Bootstrap Bill and mother of our favorite erstwhile blacksmith:
Story Excerpt )

Jack’s day—week—maybe year (the ambiguity of events just adds to the surrealism of the story) doesn’t get any better from there.
