Why this must be read:

Ha! Like I could stay away from the porn for long. This next fic is a deliciously hot little story in a pairing outside of my norm: Foreman/Chase. It has some scorching D/s elements, hilarious Chase with a cold, and Foreman being -- in his own unique way -- almost affectionate. The writing is brilliant; there are so many great, quotable lines in this story that I went a little cross-eyed while trying to leave a comment.

"Thanks for the flowers," he says, though there's little resemblance between a bouquet and the squat heavy plant on the coffee table.

"I don't send flowers," Foreman says, "It's a succulent."

Chase almost laughs, but the way Foreman says that ridiculous word goes straight to his crotch and he wonders if maybe he's not feeling a tiny bit better.

Why this vid kicks ass:

Johnny Cash's song "Hurt" is the perfect song for Anakin/Vader contemplating his fall and the impact it has on those who love him. And [livejournal.com profile] imaginaryalice does a superb job of matching the clips to the words and to the rhythm of the music.

Why this vid kicks ass:

The best fan videos meld song and image as seamlessly as possible so that they tell a story, sometimes in synch with the source material, sometimes at odds with it (what we call AU). After going through my extensive library of BSG vids, I narrowed my search down to just a handful that I felt got their message across in both a memorable and entertaining way. Of that handful, there were just a couple that I kept coming back to, time and again. And of that couple, I present to you:

The Lord’s Prayer by MariKs

The Lord’s Prayer is a powerful song in its own right, but when combined with images of the struggle between the Colonials and the Cylons as well as the struggles of both peoples amongst themselves, you get a powerhouse of a music video. Mariks has found many parallels to emphasize and explore – parallels between cylon and human, parallels between the seasons of the show – all tightly edited to tell the story of Battlestar Galactica.

Here’s what the vidder has to say about the vid: when I first heard this song the initial idea was to make a vid about the cylons mostly and their conflict with humanity through the aspect of their faith. Turned out they're much more connected to their "parents", than I thought. :) So this vid isn't just about the cylons but pretty much about all the characters involved in the main storyline of the show. I hope you'll enjoy it.

At the link above, [livejournal.com profile] m_a_r_i_k_s has posted both a download link and a link to YouTube so that you may simply watch the vid. I first found it on YouTube, but then I tracked this puppy down so that I could download, because it’s a true keeper.

Enjoy!

Title: Truths and Lies
Pairing: Jack Sparrow/Elizabeth Swann/Will Turner; Jack Sparrow/Bootstrap Bill Turner; Jack Sparrow/Hector Barbossa

Why this must be read: [livejournal.com profile] p0wdermonkey says it best...

The Truths and Lies stories are a set of fics in which different narrators give their own versions of events, with varying degrees of honesty. You can expect to find out things about Jack's past in all of them, as well as other things that vary from story to story.

Each story ought to work as a standalone, but they are interconnected. If you read several, you'll be able to piece together more of the picture.

If you have plenty of time, you can make the most of surprises and reveals by reading them in numbered order, starting with Truths 1: And the truth shall set you free. In my dreams, you will then be compelled go back and re-read the early ones in the light of later ones. You will never stop reading. Bwahahaha!

We can only hope!

The first story is (on the surface) pure comedy, from Elizabeth's pov. The second is a bit more serious, from Jack's. Then Norrington comes in, with some Sparrington combined with elements of a detective story. The fourth story is my favorite, from Bootstrap Bill's pov, very serious, as only Bill can be, though the narrative is enlivened by asides from one of Davy Jones other crewmembers, Greenbeard, to whom Bill is dictating his letter to Jack. The fifth story is Barbossa's version, told to Tia Dalma in three parts.

Same story, different versions, and all of them are true. If you enjoy Jack backstory, you won't want to miss this wonderful series. The characterizations are spot on, the balance of of comedy and drama is just right, and the plot is compelling, even knowing how it all turns out!

Why this must be read: The prositute AU. It's an old favorite, and personally I'm a complete sucker for it. In this story, JC is a slave who is specifically used to pleasure his owner in bed. However, he's getting 'old' and was never very good at what he was supposed to do to begin with. That is, until Lance comes along and buys him. It sounds harsh, but this story is one of the sweetest things I've ever read. The hesitation, the uncertainty and the understanding is just so wonderfully done. It does funny things to my heart.
