01:04 am A Guiltless Victim by Kate Andrews (NC-17)
Fandom: HEROES
Pairing: Peter Petrelli/Niki Sanders
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] svilleficrecs
Author Website: a listing of her stories on del.icio.us
Why this must be read:

The episode Five Years Gone showed a dystopian future, and this story explores one of those future paths. Peter and Niki are both eaten up by guilt, and they act on it in ways that aren't exactly healthy. They might be the only two people who could understand the other, and offer a comfort that is in no way soft.

He understood why she let them attack her, understood the words she used to explain it to herself, anyway. The old Peter would have stopped it before it started. The old Peter would have looked away, gotten out of their heads before the attack or before the kill, but old Peter no longer existed. And this Peter had heard, Princess Leia-style, the voices of millions crying out, then the silence.

(That part of the movie was bullshit because if she really heard that, anywhere near like he heard it, she'd have gone insane. He did, for a little while.)

10:13 am Knotted by Salieri (PG)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: gen or blink and you’ll miss it slash, you decide
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] troyswann
Author Website: hunt down her gen stories here, or stalk her slash here.

Why this must be read:

Usually, I’m a fangirl of simple tastes. I like my stories to have a clear beginning, middle, and end. I believe that less is more when it comes to description. Then along comes Salieri, who tosses all of my preferences out the car window, and takes me on one hell of a ride.

Knotted is a surreal mind-trip, replete with imagery of an idealized sun-baked African savanna, metaphors that are completely antithetical to the rain-soaked, dark alleyways of Bay City. Yet in Salieri’s talented hands, this very step into the unreality of Starsky’s mind, hovering between sleeping and waking, forcefully captures the gritty reality of a stakeout gone wrong. Because in a world where mind-numbing boredom can give way to explosive violence in a heart-breaking instant, even the flow of time can no longer be taken for granted.

Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard, Teyla/Kate Heightmeyer and others, both slash and het.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings
Author Website: n/a
Why this must be read:

I admit, while I adore John and Rodney, I often find myself wondering what life might be like for everyone else living in Atlantis.  Here [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings gives us an amazing behind-the-scenes look at what life in the Pegasus Galaxy could be like, not only for John and Rodney, but for the rest of the crew as well.

Every day, Chuck traces his fingertips over the constellation-patterns for planets he’ll never visit, for solar systems he’ll only read about in mission reports.

He doesn’t mind. He has a name for every constellation. When he dials the gate, he imagines that the world he’s calling out to is coming into being at that moment, whispered into reality by the star-positions that describe it. When another planet dials into Atlantis, he thinks of the precious set of symbols that bring the city into existence, again and again, and of the fragility of this place, this planet that is determined only by the relation of their sun to a thousand others across the galaxy.
