Why this must be read: Because it is AMAZING!

So, for my very first rec for the crack_van, back before this was an active fandom around here, I linked you to a fic I said had succeeded to the title of hottest fic in the fandom because the previous title holder had dissapeared from existence. I have managed to relocate that previous (and once again) titleholder and I offer it here for your enjoyment (and spontanious combustion). Go read this right now. This author's fic tends to periodically vanish from the internets, so read it before that happens again.

Do Turlough and Tegan ever do anything but fight? Occasionally.

Why this must be read:
I don’t generally like “music fic,” but this is a beautiful, haunting look at what it means to share memories, and follows it through to the heartbreakingly logical conclusion.

Why this must be read: I really enjoy this author’s different perspective on Tony.  Her position is that Tony has to have it more together underneath/inside than a lot of fanfic portrays him or he would have never survived as a cop/investigator for over 10 years.

I had a tough time choosing between her stories, but I chose this post-ep tag to "Chained" because it compactly shows how well Tony understands himself, his teammates, and his job.  Here’s a little snippet from the heart of story:

I want to stand up and remind them all that I’ve been in situations like this before. I’ve had guns to my head. I’ve been trapped in shoot-outs and hostage situations. I’ve called in snipers and ordered them to shoot. I’ve killed people. They’ve tried to kill me. I’ve been shot, punched, beat up, taken down. I’ve broken bones, had concussions, sprained things, had bruises the color and size of large eggplants. And I have returned the favor more times that I can count. (Actually, I do know the numbers – the exact numbers – but that’s not the point.) This isn’t new. It’s not fun … but it isn’t new. It’s what I do.

why this must be read: Hmm. This is not a happy story. It's very powerful, though, and says a lot about fame and celebrity. They can't all be happy, right? This is a remix story, so probably not a lot of people have read it. Mary remixed [personal profile] stubbleglitter's Hold Your Banner High., which was written for [profile] northernveil  's We All Float Down Here Sick and Twisted Challenge, So that should be enough warning right there. But give it a try. It's not long, and it's so very good. Mary's writing never wastes a word, and that's certainly true of this story.  Actually, think of this as a double rec, because Maggie's original story should be read, also,

I just love this tale, the characterisation is good, the interaction between the characters well-written and it has one of my favourite lines...

"You're usin' your head for more than a hat stand, Mistah Wilmington.., it doesn't suit you."

It's a case of appearances being deceptive, but I won't ruin it, just go read. :)

10:14 pm Pretty Boy by Francesca and Emily Brunson (NC-17)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Authors on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza; [livejournal.com profile] janissa11
Authors’ Websites: Francesca’s Sentinel Fiction; Em's Fiction (Emily Brunson’s Sentinel fic not publicly viewable online at present, to my knowledge.)

Why this must be read: This story is one of my favourites not just because Jim’s character fascinates me, but also because it hits one of my personal buttons: the different faces we all show to other people; how we keep those faces separate; but how we each want to have one person who sees us whole, as we are. It’s particularly intriguing with a reticent, buttoned-up-tight character like Jim.

When I first read this I had to go back immediately and read it another three times to get my head around its portrayal of Jim, so different was it from the usual. This very different Jim disconcerts Blair just as much as he does the reader.

Pretty Boy

The sequel to this story, Pretty Rough, is also on Francesca’s site and is also highly recommended. And if that isn’t enticement enough, it includes one of the hottest blow jobs you’re likely to read anywhere.
