Title: Concurrent Jurisdiction by shywr1ter Pairing: Tony DiNozzo/OFC (off-screen), Logan Cale/Max Guevera Author on LiveJournal: Author's website: www.fanfiction.net/u/490677/shywr1ter Why this must be read: When one actor has portrayed characters in multiple television series or movies, fanfic authors seem unable to resist the pull of justifying the multiple existences. Within the NCIS fandom, the most frequently explored backstory is that of Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard. David McCallum’s prior role as secret agent Illya Kuryakin in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. seems a completely plausible past for the story-telling M.E. Gibbs even remarked upon the two characters’ physical “resemblance” in season two. I have read a couple of stories that make Michael Weatherly’s characters, Tony DiNozzo and Logan Cale, the same person, but that necessitates messing with one or the other show’s timelines, since the earlier show was set in the future. Shywr1ter solves that problem by making the two men cousins, setting the story in the Dark Angel timeframe, and appropriately aging DiNozzo to his late forties. A mature Tony is a wonder to behold because he still calls upon his wit, charm and way-with-the ladies, but he’s an even better investigator than ever. Max makes some great observations about how different Logan and Tony are, even though they look “so much” alike. Concurrent Jurisdiction covers a lot of ground--one-third case!fic, one-third family!fic, one-third romance (Max/Logan). Great characterizations and an interesting plot.

I wavered regarding the above ball park rating (it's probably only a weak R), but I didn’t suffer a moment of doubt about reccing this very different, but wholly believable, crossover. Title: Viagrus Levitus! by Susan Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Author on LJ: sjames_centre Author Website: unknown Why this must be read:A couple of weeks ago, my friend Rebel and I made a joke about what we thought would be an impossible crossover to do well. Silly us, we didn’t imagine that Susan would take up the gauntlet and make it look easy. This deliciously naughty and witty peek into Starsky and Hutch’s bedroom captures what I enjoyed best about the recent outbreak of Deadly Hallows fever in the Muggle world: the chance to watch adults at play. Title: The Long View by Slybrarian Pairing: Gaeta/Dee, Gaeta/Jack Author on LJ: slybrarianAuthor Website: N/A Why this must be read: The cylons aren't the only ones who have sleepers aboard the Battlestar Galactica. The similarities between the war between the Humans and the Cylons and the war between the Time Lords and the Daleks get explored here when a young time agent charged with protecting the Lady President goes to the Lords of Kobol for help. This fic presumes familiarity with both shows through the end of their repective seasons 3. Ideally you should have at least seen (or read) Doctor Who's Human Nature for this to be optimally enjoyable. What I'm saying is thar be spoilers. The Long View

Title: Death by Chocolate by Beth Einspanier Pairing: none Author on LJ:Author Website: at fanfiction.netWhy this must be read: The author calls this the weirdest crossover she's ever written. I'm not sure "weird" is sufficient. It's also dark, funny, peculiar, whimsical, serious, brilliant, unique, magical . . . it's hard to know where to stop. Ten years after the golden ticket tour, the CSI Las Vegas team investigates the murder of a young man found dead in the Nevada desert, a young man who was once the luckiest boy in the world. Yes, canon character death, right up front. That's the "dark" part. From there the story becomes the oddest—well, see all my adjectives above—crossover you'd ever care to read as the team members flounder around in the magical world of Willy Wonka and his chocolate. They have magic gobstoppers in the lab, and oompa-loompas who give their police statements in song. It's just . . . fantastic. ( excerpt )Death by Chocolate

Title: A Different City by Shrift Pairing: None Author on LJ: shriftAuthor Website: shrift's fanfictionWhy this must be read:Fans of Tim Drake, Retro Girl, and alternate universe stories will be pleased with this alternate reality in which young Tim Drake is obsessed with Powers, not the Batfamily. It helps if you've read some of Powers, the Eisner Award-winning comic by Brian Michael Bendis. This story is a very good example of a comics-based crossover of two quite different universes that keeps the characters' traits true even though there are changes. A Different City

Title: Antecedent by Cobalt Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN(OW)/SILVERADO Pairing: Ezra/Vin Emmet/Paden Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: Cobalts7Why this must be read:I always loved Silverado, this tale wonderfully switches moments from the past of Silverado with echoes from the future of Ezra and Vin as they find themselves in Silverado, bringing up memories for Stella and providing the boys with a little of their past. Fandom: DC COMICS Pairing: Bruce Wayne/Dick Grayson (Batman/Nightwing); Dick Grayson/Barbara Gordon Author on LJ: elynrossAuthor Website: The Principality of Whimsy Why this must be read:It takes a bit of work for me to believe in Bruce/Dick, not that I don't think they love each other, but Bruce--Batman--isn't a easy person to love. However, Elyn does a fantastic job of making me believe this could have happened in some reality. This Bruce and this adult Dick interact in ways that feel real, and speak and react in character. The love making is full of passion, a hint of power play that is just right, and the emotions are as fraught and angsty as one would expect given the pair's long history. Alfred is wonderful in this, and I have no qualms about rec'ing this story to even the most reluctant of readers of this pairing. One aspect of this story that I really appreciate is how Dick's relationship with and love for Barbara isn't glossed over, and the way she reacts to this change in their relationship is realistic. Fandom: DC COMICS Pairing: Tim Drake/Kon-El (Superboy) Author on LJ: sister_wolfAuthor Website: Fanfiction by Sister Wolf Why this must be read:This is an Elseworlds story from the timfinity Challenge in which Tim's a thief (the Cat, *g*), and he ends up in a cell with Superboy as his fellow prisoner. It's got great Tim voice, and the sexual tension is delicious. Forty Thieves

Title: Welcome to Hezmana Pairing: Veronica/Logan, Aeryn/John Author on LJ: keepaofthecheezAuthor Website: LJ memoriesWhy this must be read:I'm reccing this despite not being the biggest Veronica/Logan supporter because I really like how keepaofthecheez addresses the blurred lines and false starts of their relationship while having to cope with their new and very strange surroundings. What stands out for me in this particular story are the character moments between Crichton and Logan, and Veronica and Aeryn. It manages to work on many levels that left, and still leaves me pleasantly surprised. Welcome to Hezmana

Title: Snapshots in Wallet Sizes by Greensilver Pairing: none Author on LJ: greensilverAuthor Website: metatextualWhy this must be read: Mr. Bennet and Keith Mars sit next to each other on an airplane ride. The beauty here is their shared role as fathers, one satisfied, the other reluctant. "That's Veronica," the man said, his voice almost embarrassingly full of love and pride. Those were probably emotions that most fathers – normal fathers, with normal wallets overflowing with pictures – felt on instinct, without having to be instructed to do so.Snapshots in Wallet Sizes

Title: Wisdom's Gate by Vanillafluffy Pairing: none Author on LJ: vanillafluffyAuthor Website: at fanfiction.netWhy this must be read: Sick and hurting Johnny Depp character. That is all. (Just kidding!) It's an imaginative, well-written and plotty romp through the American Gods landscape told from Shadow's POV as he tries to help the irritating and self-absorbed Corso. Corso's brush with the Satanic has left him "tainted" and sick and slowly dying. Shadow and his otherworldly friends try to find some power that can help him. It's quite possible to enjoy this story knowing only American Gods or only The Ninth Gate, though I do recommend being familiar with one of them. THE NINTH GATE at IMDBWisdom's Gate
