Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Tim Drake/Kon-El (Robin/Superboy)
Authors on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ficbyzee and [livejournal.com profile] basingstoke
Author Websites: Pardon Our Nerds and snogging puppets

Why this must be read:
This story gets my whole-hearted rec because it features dorky-but-hot first-time sex that made me smile. *bg* Kon is not as cool as he wants to be, and on an interpersonal level, Tim could use some help.

Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Tim Drake/Clark Kent (Robin/Superman)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ficbyzee
Author Website: Pardon Our Nerds

Why this must be read:
A porny little story with a fcuked up Tim...not uncommon in this fandom, but this pairing is unusual. Clark/Tim only works for me when there's some angst, so this one is just right.

Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2003
Pairing: Gaeta/Callie
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ingrid_m
Author Website: FF.net site here.
Why this must be read:

This is a well written piece of old-school BSG fic. It's still BSG 2003, but it was written back when the audience, and the survivors, didn't know what was what. Or should I say who was what…

This is a fantastic look at how hard it must have been in those first few months to trust people, to trust yourself, to find a way to release all that stress…

I love this fic. It really takes me back to that part of BSG where every revelation was a punch in the gut and it captures that spirit admirably.

Enjoy!

Author's Summary: There are no ranks here ... only music in the air.

11:55 am BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2003/X-Men (PG-13)
Title: Hellfire by [livejournal.com profile] resolute (PG-13)
Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2003/ X-Men Crossover
Pairing: None
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] resolute
Author Website: To the best I can tell, her fics are in her Memories here.
Why this must be read:

Because everyone, even Kara Thrace, was a child once, with childish dreams and childish heroes.

Because this fic is exquisitely written and hauntingly potent.

Because this fic crosses two of my favorite fandoms - BSG and X-Men and does it in a way that left me utterly breathless and very touched.

Because [livejournal.com profile] resolute captured Kara in this, and showed us her vulnerable side.

Because you really really should, or you'll kick yourself for missing out.

Author's Summary: Kara Thrace is a child on Caprica, and finds a comic book in the library.

Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ismenetruth
Author Website: n/a
Why this must be read:

A look at what life might be like after declassification.

"I love him" stares up from the page, eight letters looming bigger than the rest, twisting before John's eyes.

Slowly, he lowers the book, breath even and smooth. It really shouldn't be a shocker. He's been sleeping with Rodney for nine years; hearing those words, secondhand even, should not be an issue. He's not going to make it weird, or make a big deal out of it. He's always been pretty sure of Rodney's affection, but seeing the words in black and white, text, permanently rendered, leaves his throat aching. Printed,
published - thousands of people, more, will see this, and it's like a relationship John has always considered ephemeral, invisible, is suddenly solidified and real.

03:58 pm Torture by Vicky Loebel (G)
Fandom:THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: none; gen
Author on LJ: no
Author website:Vicky’s Fanfiction
Why this must be read:

The threat (and actuality) of torture is an occupational hazard for U.N.C.L.E. agents and therefore, a recurrent theme in MFU fanfic.

Here’s a short piece ---not much more than a tasty tidbit actually --- that introduces a little twist on that all-too-familiar situation. This time, it’s not Illya but Napoleon who’s in the hot seat, and though he’s sweating, the story will make you smile.

Pairing: Tim Drake/Kon-El (Robin/Superboy)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thete1
Author Website: Teland

Why this must be read:
Angsty Kon/Tim--oh, boys! But there's also sweetness, and friendship.

I rec'd Misdirection in May of 2006. But this Teen Titans series has several more parts now, and it's worth calling your attention to it. Like I said in that rec, this series is what made Tim/Kon my favorite pairing in this fandom.

10:25 pm Penumbra by Veronica (PG)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] veronicaluv
Author Website: ooooh, shiny

Why this must be read: I love stories from an outsider’s pov, where another character considers and reacts to the main characters and their relationship. The best of them reveal insights about all the characters involved.

This is one my favourites. It’s set post-series; Blair is officially a cop and Jim’s partner.

Simon’s a good detective and police captain but events can still take him by surprise even – or especially – when the clues are under his nose. Here, his discovery of a relationship between two of his officers, who also happen to be his friends, is pretty damned inconvenient for him.

Simon’s a decent man in canon and it’s great to find a fic that keeps him in character, trying to understand and sympathise but still having to be professional and do his job.

A little taste:  )

Penumbra

This fic is a companion piece to another superb story by Veronica, The Sun from Both Sides, which has already been recced here on [livejournal.com profile] crack_van. Penumbra is set after that but easily stands on its own.
