I'll be your NCIS driver for the month of November - my apologies for the late start. According to crack_van's guidelines, we should be placing an emphasis on fiction we feel represent "especially outstanding and accessible examples of your fandom." But when I took a look at the memories, I realized that a good number of my favorite good, meaty reads are already listed. So I decided to go with what I know best - Smut. I read mostly NC-17 rated slash and that's what you'll find the most of this month; but I do make the occasional exception, so don't be surprised if I show up with a het story from time to time. Why this fic must be read:

Nix is one of the best NCIS writers around, and this fic is no exception. Good exposition, and a nice set-up for the scene only help make the actual sex hotter and more intense. I love her descriptions - she drops in just enough to make you see the scene in your mind, but not enough to distract you from what's happening. The fact that this particular story is told from Tony's perspective works for me, especially since this is one of the rare Gibbs/DiNozzo fic in which Gibbs is on bottom. That doesn't always work very well, but in this fic it fits just right.

Why this must be read:

Rebecca is another of my favorite authors - her descriptions are vivid, her plots well thought out and her characterizations spot on - even when she's taking the characters in directions you'd have never thought them going. Her sex scenes are always intense, and she's willing to take chances that others won't. Her Dom/sub scenes always send a chill up my spine - she knows what she's talking about, and it shows.

The Travel Series is an excellent example of her work. In three stories Rebecca runs the gamut from anonymous sex - harsh and frightening and bordering on non-con, to extremely hot but mostly vanilla sex, to a Dom/sub scene that sends shivers up my spine - all taking place in just about 24 hours time. I love it when she does that.

So, I've lulled you into a false sense of security with my last two recs, and now I'm going in for the kill. This one's sad, kids, a post-Colonisation fic. It's bone-deep cold and heartbreak. CazQ's writing is, as ever, lyrical and full of beauty. She weaves here a story about absence and fear and, most of all, love.

Jack Kelso is a favorite TS occasional character. In Dasha's popular AU 'Imperfections,' he's an expert on the sentinel/guide relationship. This lovely little detour from the main series describes the revelation that shapes Jack's career.

Why this must be read:

I am at a loss of words to describe this fic to you. Amongst the candidates were "Jaffa were not born sparkly" and "Skin care is vitally important to the life of a Jaffa", but I could not string these words together in a way that would make sense to anybody.

In 10 words or less, Teal'c gives Sam makeup tips. This is pure crack!fic at its best, insane, funny and yet somewhat believable given the universe this story takes place in.
