08:00 am Reciprocity by raucousraven (rated P for Plotty; probably about PG-13 for action/violence)
Fandom: NUMB3RS
Pairing: none
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] raucousraven
Author Website: not that I can tell? LJ tag for Numb3rs fic on her journal
Why this must be read:

This story takes hints the show gave us about Charlie's classified consulting work for the NSA and weaves them into this tightly-packed narrative, dense with imagery. Charlie was given combat training by the NSA, and a jealous rival from that program is taking out people Charlie loves to get his attention. And even though it's shattering to him, terrifying and not the kind of person Charlie wants to be, Charlie steps up and fights back, because he'd do anything for his family.

[livejournal.com profile] raucousraven classifies this as an AU, but I find it so, so plausible.

11:04 am Songvid Oddities: Bend it Like Beckham - Whatever It Takes
Vidder: Eunice
Musical artist: Sinead Lohan
Pairing: Jess & Jules friendship
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] fan_eunice
Vidder's website: Myrtle & Eunice Productions
Why this vid kicks ass: And here we are at the end of my Happy Week recs, with a songvid that makes me vicariously love and want to hug all my girlfriends, current and past. Jess and Jules clearly adore each other so much, and they are so young and passionate about soccer and family fights, and yes, even occasionally boys, but that really isn't the important thing here. The important thing is that following your passion is what makes you alive, and Jess and Jules are so alive it makes me yearn for dozens more movies that actually have real women in them, but if I only get one a decade, then this is a great one to get, and this songvid captures all of that joy and aliveness perfectly.

02:48 pm Leave Emotion @ the Door by zahra (PG)
Fandom: Ocean's Eleven
Pairing: Danny Ocean/Rusty Ryan, with incidental Rusty Ryan/Linus Caldwell
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hackthis
Author Website: dysfunctional
why this must be read:

Another classic, this one handles the problem of Tess with aplomb. It's also a smart and funny look inside Rusty's head, with some neat back story about his relationship with Danny, and his feelings about Tess, the Benedict job, and those pesky Incan matrimonial headmasks.

06:17 pm The Cuckoo's Child by Chrissie [PG 13]
Fandom:Prince of Tennis
Pairing: Fuji Syusuke + Fuji Yuuta (not incest fic,) Tezuka/Fuji Syusuke in the background.
Rating: PG 13, for kissing and implied sexual situations which do not directly involve Yuuta.
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] sesame_seed
Website: Sesame Seed Radio.

Why this story must be read:

One of the main story threads in the Seigaku pantheon is the strained relationship between Fuji Yuuta and his older, more talented and ingenious brother, Syusuke, extended in this story to include the older sister, Yumiko. Chrissie does a subtle job of revealing the process of exclusion, beyond envy and sibling rivalry, which drives Yuuta out of his family circle. There is a wonderful moment in the climax when it becomes clear that what makes Yuuta distinct from his brother is more important than any lightning-sharp leap of intelligence and wit. The ending is bittersweet and moving.

Why this must be read:

I thought long and hard on how to introduce you to the best E! fic. And Hellfire kept popping up in my mind. It's Johnny-rich, it includes a lot from the other guys, it's exciting, angsty, filled with humor and H/C... you name it, it's got it. And it doesn't hurt that it's magnificently well-written.

In this excerpt, Johnny is upset after finding out that a firefighter who harassed him and hurt shiftmate Mike Stoker is getting away with a slap on the wrist:

09:39 pm Ring Out Wild Bells to the Wide Sky by keswindhover (PG)
Right-ho! The custom-made Daimler is raring to be off, and I’ll be driving. Frankly, one doesn’t have the option of being picky about gen, het, or slash (or even WTF Crossover) in a fandom of this size; I’ll try to come up with options to suit all tastes, from his lordship’s refined (or at least experienced) palate, to the neophyte.

Fandom: Lord Peter Wimsey
Pairing: Gen
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] keswindhover
Author Website: http://www.geocities.com/keswindhover/
Why this must be read: It’s on [livejournal.com profile] yuletide and I expect some of you have read it before, but this is a fic that bears re-visiting. Simply, it continues canon, and it continues canon well. It’s impossible to read Gaudy Night and Busman’s Honeymoon without catching glimpses of the war that is to come. Sayers wrote in a letter that Saint-George would join the RAF and be killed in the Battle of Britain. This fic posits a somewhat more hopeful ending (one that doesn’t land Peter with the Dukedom).

Fandom: NUMB3RS
Pairing: Charlie/Larry
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] miriam_heddy
Author Website: Miriam Heddy's Little Corner of the Universe
Why this must be read:

I really, really like Charlie/Larry. It's one of my guilty pleasures--and, yes, in a fandom rife with incest, I'm still going to consider Charlie/Larry another guilty pleasure, because Larry was Charlie's teacher when he was tiny. Remember how Charlie went off to college at the age of 13? Yes. Well.

This is a story that acknowledges both the guiltiness and the pleasure, because there are two sides to the story: Larry wasn't ready for Charlie to be sexual as a teenager. Charlie, as a teenager, was.

[livejournal.com profile] miriam_heddy is my favorite author for this pairing, and one of my favorite authors for this fandom. I highly recommend visiting her site to read her other stuff too. And I may have to come back and rec another story of hers after I've had time to kick back and reread them all--this is the one that stands out in my memory, but there were so many delicious ones.

Lachesis.
