Fandom: Samurai Champloo Pairing: Jin/Mugen Author on LJ: lynnmonster Author on the web: n/a Why this must be read: Post-series, Jin finds himself wandering aimlessly, picking up easy bodyguarding jobs and being bored out of his mind. That all changes the day the ship he is on is attacked by pirates. Guess who Jin finds among the invaders? Soon Jin is a pirate (sort of), enjoying sex with the captain (um, that would be Mugen), and trying to fish (he still sucks at it). So why isn't he happy? I love this fic for so many reasons. For one, it's probably the most realistic (well, aside from the slash; then again, this *is* Samurai Champloo) outcome I can imagine for Jin (becoming a bodyguard) and Mugen (becoming a pirate) and it's amazing how well Jin's conversion to piratism is handled. Even better is his relationship with Mugen, which is hot and passionate and yet totally confusing to poor Jin, who hasn't had much experience with either emotion in his life. A fascinating story on many levels. The Barbless Hook

Vidder: jbone Musical artist: Electric Light Orchestra Pairing: Kenichi/Tima Vidder on LJ: None Vidder's website: The Final ActWhy this vid kicks ass: After much thought, I decided to kick off the Week O' Angst with this epic by jbone. It's one of my all-time favourite vids, and I still re-watch it regularly even lo these two years since I first downloaded it. "Urban Ragnarok" is an incredible feat of vidding excellence. It tells the story of a boy tragically in love with a robot, a robot who has a really major chip on her... um, brain, and it tells it through the most amazing, eye-popping editing choices you will ever see. This? This is fantastic. Urban Ragnarok( Note: This songvid is available both as a direct download, and via AMV. Instructions on how to sign up for AMV are given here on strangefandom, just scroll up a few lines.)

Fandom: THE HISTORY BOYS Pairing: Dakin/Irwin Author on LJ: lo0o0ony_laurenAuthor Website: unknown Why this must be read:Another fairly short fic, this one takes a good look at Dakin, at three different moments of his life. Dakin's such a brash, outgoing, outwardly uncomplicated boy, and here Lauren shows us a few rare glimpses of the thoughts and uncertainties that must always be simmering under the surface. Fandom: DRESDEN FILES (TV) Pairing: None Author on LJ: joonscribbleAuthor Website: Author's stories at fanfiction.netWhy this must be read:This is a short, but powerful fic. It's an upsetting story that leaves you thinking about it long after you have finished reading. And the more you think about what it means, the more it will disturb you. So... dark, but *excellent*. Harry is in mortal peril, and Bob, having no physical presence, cannot come to his friend's aid. In desperation, he summons a "trickster" to make a deal. Bob bargains with the only thing he has and the end result is absolutely chilling. The Best of Me

Fandom: Prince of Tennis Pairing: None. Fudoumine: Tachibana An Author: lysapadinWebsite: None Rating: [G] Reasons why this must be read:Tachibana An is one of the few really vivid female characters in the Prince of Tennis universe. Spirited, independent, fearless and strong, yet cheerful and supportive, she still seems to be largely ignored as the fandom's eyes focus mainly on the boys, but this is a wonderful story of how she refuses to lie passive and silent in the background. Fandom: FAKE NEWS RPF Pairing: Gen Author on LJ: scrunchyAuthor Website: Scrunchy.netWhy this must be read: This is a fan script of The Colbert Report, but this could easily be used on the show. Scrunchy nails every little thing about the show, from the toss to the interview. Although outdated, this will definitely fill the gap in your heart from the lack of Fake News because of the WGA strike. The Colbert Report - The Lost Episode - December 2006
