12:00 am Requiem by dee_ayy (PG-13)
Fandom: EMERGENCY!
Pairing: none
Author on LJ:
Author Website: dee_ayys Emergency! fan fic
Why this must be read:

When you read my brilliant E! fandom overview (you did read it, right?) you'll remember that I mentioned an odd piece of fanon: the death of Chet Kelly.

Many stories address it. But dee_ayy's "Requeim" is one of the few that actually does it justice.

09:53 am Comes the Sun by dimgenesis [PG13]
Fandom: Prince of Tennis
Pairing: [Seigaku] Momoshiro Takeshi/Echizen Ryoma
Author: [livejournal.com profile] dimgenesis
Website: n/a
Rating: [PG13]

Why this fic must be read:

PoT fandom is rife with the theme of teammates, long-term friends, even lovers leaving to heal injuries, pursue professional tennis careers or a different line of study altogether. Momoshiro finds himself in a surprisingly passive role when it comes to the impending departure of Echizen. He already had to face it once when Ryoma left for the American Open Invitational. This is a wonderful story about the effect of old wounds and how things change when desire and companionship are stirred.

Comes the Sun.

11:25 am Welcome to the Knight Club by Quatre Sama (PG13)
Right, so, finals happened, and then coming home for break happened and left me stranded without internet and a list of reccs on my other computer. But I can piece together a list from memory, so no worries there.

Fandom: TAMORA PIERCE (TORTALL)
Pairing: gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] q_sama
Author Website: http://www.geocities.com/f4_soujiro/
Why this must be read: Because the concept is brilliantly executed, the characterization is awesomely real and it's short and concise and dense

11:46 am Frozen Statue by Elspeth Elf (R)
Fandom: TAMORA PIERCE (TORTALL)
Pairing: Lady Yolane of Dunlath/Tristan Staghorn
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] elsepethelf
Author Website: n/a
Why this must be read: Disclaimer: I dared her to write it.

Set about a year after the events of Wolf Speaker, this story is all kinds of squicky and it makes me feel all kinds of wrong for loving it. But I do. The framing provides distance from the events of the story in a way that makes it feel half like a Big Fish Story: it can't be true, can it? But the events are shown as well, and it is true. Yolane in her descent into madeness is a thing of beauty.

Also, Elspeth pulls of dialect. Which is rare and awesome.

No snippet because it really has to be taken as a whole.

11:49 am The Man Who Fell to Earth by chelseagirl (PG)
Fandom: LIFE ON MARS
Pairing: Sam Tyler/Annie Cartwright
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] chelseagirl47
Author Website: n/a
Why this must be read:

A little bit of silliness now in the run up to Christmas. is another of those long-standing members of the Life on Mars fandom. Written for the 2006 [livejournal.com profile] martianholiday Christmas fic challenge, this is a fantastically humorous take on what Sam is doing in 1973 and why.

12:02 pm Belonging by Rosie Eisor (T/PG13)
Fandom: TAMORA PIERCE (TORTALL)
Pairing: Thayet of Conte/Gareth the Younger of Naxen, Gareth the Younger of Naxen/Cythera of Naxen, Cythera of Naxen/Raoul of Goldenlake, Sacherell of Wellam/Douglass of Veldine and a couple others I'm having some trouble tracking down right now.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] seori
Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/69618
Why this must be read: Tortall has this ... overarching feeling to it, that nothing really bad can happen to the characters because Pierce loves her characters too much. What she does show us in Protector of the Small, however, is that there are a bunch of quirky Tortallan laws that have the potential to cause a lot of trouble.

Rosie kills Jon while Roald is only four years old, takes a hypothetical law and makes it cause a lot of trouble for everyone, and leaves everyone pretty miserable. Everyone is left in mourning with a great big problem of not having anyone who can legally run the country and a king who is only four years old.

And everyone just kindof crumbles. You ache for her Gary/Cythera

It's great.

01:10 pm Songvid Oddities: House/Dead Poets Society - If We Shadows Have Offended
Vidder: Dani C.
Musical artist: Enya
Pairing: House/Wilson
Vidder on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mystictwilight
Vidder's website: MysticTwilight on YouTube
Why this vid kicks ass: This is such a clever piece of work, using the footage from Dead Poets Society to give a gorgeous, angsty twist to Wilson's backstory. To say more is to spoil this. Just... wow! What a great piece of alternate canon construction.

01:55 pm He Knows You Know by truly_bohemian (PG-13)
Fandom: THE HISTORY BOYS
Pairing: gen, mostly
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] truly_bohemian
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] tibby_schlegel is her fic journal
Why this must be read:

A series of ficlets looking at a few of the boys, ten years later. The Posner piece, in particular, is spot-on -- how he's become a great teacher in his own right, but with Hector and Irwin's influences still lingering and casting shadows over his life. It's a touch melancholy without being too bleak, really embodies the Posner of the film's epilogue. The other three ficlets -- looking at Scripps, Lockwood, and Dakin -- are also quite well done, and there's just a hint of optimism for Dakin/Irwin at the end.

Fandom: Lord Peter Wimsey
Pairing: Gen (Peter/Harriet)
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: http://columbina.blogspot.com/
Why this fic must be read: The Wimsey fandom might be small, but the quality is high. Even the Pit of Voles doesn’t come up with a dud. This is a lovely little fic, a missing scene from Busman’s Honeymoon showing Peter, Bunter and Saint-George in the Mitre on the morning of the wedding.

08:04 pm The Captain by Guardian-381 (PG)
Fandom: GORGEOUS CARAT
Pairing: Ray x Florian
Author on LJ:
Author Website: Guardian-381

Why this must be read:
It's rare in this small fandom to find a story that focuses on Laila. In this story, Ray's devoted follower must face the reality that her love for Ray will never be returned in the same way and decide if she can accept that and remain at his side. Beautifully written, this story gives us a Laila who is smart, strong and very much her own person. Ray and Florian are nicely written and the interaction between the characters is excellent.

Note: this is the second story in a series but it can be read as a stand alone piece. The entire series is well worth a read.

08:58 pm The WØRD by Agnes Joseph (PG-13)
Fandom: FAKE NEWS RPF
Pairing: Gen with a side of Stephen/Tad
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] in_vulnerable
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] in_vulnerable's memories
Why this must be read:

This reads like a real segment of The WØRD on The Colbert Report, only more slashier. Agnes gets the hilarity and Stephen's voice just right. Stephen keeps on repressing and denying he's gay, especially his feelings toward his building manager, Tad.
