Hello, all! I'm your Doctor Who driver this month. It's very nice to meet you! I'm a giant fan of angst and Martha Jones, so there's going to be a lot of that. I'll have some Rose stuff in here too, for you Rose fans, probably, but mostly my Martha. (And, yes, I'm only a new!who fan. No Old Series fics this month, sorry!) Let's get going! Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Pairing: None Length: One shot; medium length Author on LJ: prettyquotable Author Website: authors' fic tag Why this must be read:This was one of the first Martha fics I ever read. I'm a sucker for backstory, especially ones that outline the past of characters, and this is just perfection. The way Martha develops, jumps from point A to H, is just downright glorious. Child!Martha is remarkably like 23 year old!Martha, only younger, with wider eyes, in that way we are all often reflections of our childhoods. It's remarkably in character, and, for some, may even put Martha in a new light -- a light that is still entirely in line with her characterization, but that expands on her in a way the show never did because RTD fails. Fandom:Bandom Pairing:Brendon Urie/Spencer Smith Author on lj: skoosiepantsAuthor website:SkoosiepantsWhy This Must Be Read:Hi, I'm Amandazillah, driving the crack_van for bandom this month! Although I tend to spend a lot of time on My Chemical Romance, I wanted to start with one of my favorite Panic At the Disco stories. Skoosie's "Certain Coasts Set Apart" is hurt/comfort the way it should be done. It's a future fic where Spencer has had an emotional breakdown following a personal tragedy and Brendon breaking his heart. One day five years later, Brendon comes back into his life. There isn't an emotion or a character in this that isn't perfect. ( Read more... )

Secret Service Agents sitting entirely too close together on the settee! Howdy! I'm vertigomac, and I'll be riding the Crack_Train for the fandom The Wild Wild West this month.

Decker's hot on our trail, but we've got the van, a plan and a whole month of recs! Fandom: THE A-TEAM Pairing: gen Length: 20,000+ words Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: Tee's Fics on the A-Team Fan Fiction ArchiveWhy this must be read: Ever wonder where the team learned some of those skills? How Face became the consummate con man and safe-cracker? Well, this may not answer all the questions, but it gives a good glimpse of what life might've been like for the team just back from Vietnam and trying to figure out what to do to survive. Murdock's not really in this one, but considering he's my favourite character on the show, I still love this fic even without him, which is a testament to the engaging quality of the story. It shows exactly the kind of gotta-help-people mentality that always ends up getting the team into trouble, and the friendship and affection for one another that always ends up getting them out of trouble. ( Colonel, I'm in trouble. )Read the story and feedback the author: Break-in in Belmont

Hello, I'm 50thousandtearz. I'll be your driver this month for Harry Potter. Fun facts about me: Books 3 and 4 are my favorites, I hate the HP movies with my heart and soul, and I'm a canon shipper. *GASP* That's right, folks. There's going to be Ron/Hermione and others of that ilk! And maybe some threesomes of our heroic trio and gen. You know, stuff that seems to be kind of rare around here, what with the overabundance of Sirius Black's true loves and a deep seated antipathy towards canon. Onto the first rec: Fandom: HARRY POTTER Pairing: Ron/Hermione, Harry/Ginny Length: 18,000+ words Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: Author page at The Quidditch PitchWhy this must be read: Post Half Blood Prince, Harry, Ron and Hermione take off to find the Horcruxes. What has life been like for them, on the run and forced to blend in with the Muggles for safety? What kind of people would they have become? Apparently, bouncers and bartenders. Great writing and characterization, and I love the little Fred and George interludes. “Reports from Germany say that three people were spotted leaving the scene of the latest attack on a Death Eater camp just outside Berlin. While information is sketchy, there was said to be a man of average height with dark hair amongst the trio of revolutionaries that brought down the small camp, leaving eight Death Eaters stunned and bound for authorities. This is just one of many recent reports of vigilantes attacking by night and leaving before authorities can question them. It’s impossible to ignore that the famed Ghosts of Redemption who have intrigued our world for over three years bear stunning similarities to three Hogwarts students who disappeared almost four years ago. While descriptions of the heroic vigilantes have varied somewhat over the years, some facts are always the same. The sole female of the group is always described as slight, one man, exceptionally tall and the third, a man with dark hair and quick reflexes. With this latest report of the Ghosts once again bringing You Know Who’s followers to justice the one question that continues to plague us has to be asked once more. . . Is the Boy Who Lived closer than we think?” Home for the Holidays

Hey all, my name is horseriderjen and I'll be driving the van for The Magnificent Seven this month. I'm a big fan of Chris/Vin, mostly hurt/comfort, but I'll try to throw some gen fiction in as well. Hope you all enjoy the ride!
Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Pairing: Chris Larabee/Vin Tanner Length: ~6,232 words Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: http://www.angelfire.com/tx5/suen/Index.htm Why this must be read: Sue is one of the best authors in the M7 fandom. The emotions she instills in her fics draw the reader right in. This particular story is one of my favorites because we get to see Vin's thoughts on his life as well as his relationship with Chris, in a way that is almost heartbreaking. http://www.chrislarabee.com/viewstory.php?sid=240

Hey, kids. I'm ishafel, and I'll be driving the Highlander crack_van this month. Buckle up. Fandom: HIGHLANDER Pairing: Gen (DM/M) Author: nejharasAuthor Website: None Why this must be read: This is Methos and McLeod, that dance they do, or that duel they do, or whatever you want to call it: one of them asking awkward questions, and the other one avoiding them, one of them forgiving and one of them angry: both of them remembering in the end that they're friends, and why. It's a lovely story, a quiet one, deeper than it looks. Rider on the Storm

Fandom: HIGHLANDER Characters: Gen (Duncan, Methos, Joe, Fitz) Author on LJ: auberusAuthor Website: Fic on SkyehawkeWhy this must be read:What if Fitz, not Duncan, had to babysit Methos? This is a funny, clever AU, drama reduced to farce. Auberus is particularly good at keeping the characters true to the canon, while changing just about everything else. Fitzcairn is grumbling to himself as he goes up the stairs to Adam Pierson's apartment. Mac is off with Amanda somewhere, but since the Highlander has promised Dawson protection for his pet researcher, Fitz has been sent to do the actual dirty work of sitting with the man. He is not happy about it, either - he's canceled a date with a very attractive debutante to play watchdog to this mortal bookworm, and when he'd said as much to MacLeod, the Scot had laughed at him.

Hi, I'm the_hobbet and I'm returning for another round of The Sentinel, my first love in fandom and one I return to frequently. I first rec'd in March 2006 and there have been a lot of great stories rec'd since then. So this will be an eclectic month - some gen, some slash, some lesser known authors, and some previously unrec'd stories by old favorites. I hope you will find something new to enjoy or be reminded of a great story that needs to be reread. If you haven't discovered The Sentinel yet, you are in for a treat. Give these stories a try, as well as some of the over 350 stories previously listed here. This is a fandom rich in wonderful writers. Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: Jim/Blair Length: Medium Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: 852 Prospect ListingWhy this must be read:Considering the name of one of The Sentinel's leading characters and its sometimes supernatural overtones, it was inevitable that an author would use "Blair Witch..." as a title. The title fits, but this isn't a take-off on the movie.
Blair's old friend Ivy returns to Cascade and notices something about the relationship between Jim and Blair she thinks needs intervention. Corbeau tells a sweet story with heart and humor. Enjoy.
