09:09 am An Antique Roman by Antenna R
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Giles/Ethan
Author on LJ: [personal profile] antennapedia
Author Website: Antennapedia
Why this must be read: I will always love Antenna's Giles, in all his various forms. But her Ethan, oh her Ethan. He is much more than the capricious chaos mage we've seen on the show. Antenna gives Ethan depth, shows us how much he really does care for Giles. But he doesn't lose his edge. Here Ethan is visiting Giles during (and after) the events of "Amends". He read Giles' journals, finds out what happened to him when he was taken by Angelus. Ethan gets Giles to open up. And then he takes revenge, it's a genius solution  in my mind. This story is fun, is heartbreaking and in the end, heartwarming.

09:52 am WRATH by rroselavy [PG13]
Fandom: Saiyuki
Title: Wrath
Pairing: [Burial Arc] implied Ukoku/Koumyou
Author: [livejournal.com profile] rroselavy
Website: none.
Rating: PG 13, reference to violence and sexual relationship.

Why this fic must be read:

Although Ukoku's culpability is never implicitly stated in Minekura's original manga, there are certainly enough hints that some, if not most, involvement in Koumyou's death can be inferred. Author, [livejournal.com profile] rroselavy interweaves these hints with how Ukoku couches his rashest emotional reactions in cold Darwinian reduction, to draw this cameo of him as someone not only destined for wrath in its meaning as divine chastisement, but now in the full experience of it. With strong, spare keystrokes, she also reveals how Ukoku's objectified consciousness, so dissociative as opposed to unifying and which, as he starts crumbling and withdrawing into his persona as Dr. Nii, is of emptiness seemingly without end, even places the means to his own redemption at a distance in space too far for him to grasp, the reality of what it means to win at all cost.

The sun referred to in this story is Kouryuu, Koumyou Sanzo's ward, later to become Genjyo Sanzo.

Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky, Hutch, Grant Hutchinson (gen)
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Kate's stories on Kassidy's Gen site
Why this must be read:

This story provides a hit of excellent Hutch H/C, an interesting interpretation of Hutch's relationship with his father and a good, haunting mystery. It's gen, but the love still shines through in a very satisfying way.

04:15 pm Hold Tight, Don't Breathe, Here We Go by 6beforelunch (PG)
hey! it's d, driving the sg-1 van once again. I'm sorry I'm late! Though you're surely used to this by now. The other thing you might be used to is me picking themes for each turn on SG-1. I'm not really going to do that this month, though I sort of am. I'm going to stick to newer stories. Because I keep hearing that the fandom is dead, which is LIES. Just look.

Fandom: STARGATE: SG-1
Pairing: Cameron Mitchell/Carolyn Lam
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] 6beforelunch
Author Website: nomadic spirit
Why this must be read:

The meta-canonical pairing of my heart. And written for me in a ficathon...yeah, I think we all know no one is writing this pairing unless I make them. It's still a great look at Cameron Mitchell, getting into things at the SGC. And trying not to get demoted by his girlfriend's father. Carolyn, the SGC's newest underutilised character, turns out to have many of the same problems. The logic is lovely, and so are the scenes of smart people with difficult jobs, trying to make something fragile work despite stiff odds.

"You're dating my daughter," Landry said finally.

Cam didn't wince. Even with only the emergency lights on, the General still would have seen it. Rule number one of dealing with unknown aliens and the potentially pissed off father of your current girlfriend: never show your weaknesses.

"Yes, sir."

Fandom: STARGATE: SG-1
Pairing: Cameron Mitchell/Johhn Sheppard
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ltlj
Author Website: ltljverse
Why this must be read:

Speaking of people who are crappy in relationships. John and Cameron go for a ride in an F-302. And then they go for a different kind of ride. Sharp and warm and breathless.

New guy from SG-1, John thought, heading down the corridor again. He wondered if Mitchell ran into this kind of thing often, as the new member of SG-1 that nobody had heard of yet. If he was still seen as an outsider no matter how long he had been there and how much his team accepted him. Like a fifth Beatle. That has to suck.

Based on that, John let himself be less laconic and show more of his genuine interest for the next part of the training.

He couldn't tell if Mitchell appreciated the difference.

05:38 pm A Life More Ordinary by zauberer_sirin (PG)
Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: Doctor/Martha
Length: ~5000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] zauberer_sirin
Author Website: Fic journal: [livejournal.com profile] 42number
Why this must be read:

The Doctor/Martha fandom has a penchant for 1969 fics -- you remember, that time in Blink where the Doctor and Martha were stuck being domestic in 1969 and whatever happened there was never mentioned again?

Yeah. We really like that time gap. So many questions come up -- how did they live together, what did they do? This is one version of events. But it is unlike many of the other 1969 fics I've read in how it is written, the sharp dialogue and sparse, precise descriptions, the way the Doctor and Martha relate to each other often without contact, by means of a typewriter, because too often talking to each other is so hard for these two. It's really rather fabulous, and you must read. Under the cut, you'll find an excerpt of dialogue from the first section of the fic -- the moment I was sold.
