04:56 pm Jeeves and the Tennis Coach by out_there (PG)
Fandom: JEEVES & WOOSTER
Pairing: Jeeves/Bertie Wooster
Length: approximately 57,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] out_there
Author Website: Amazed by the Mathematics
Why this must be read:

Bertie's taken note that the sun is brighter and the roses are sweeter when Jeeves is around. This requires deep thought, and a cautious plan of action. Jeeves, after all, can't really be asked for his advice on how best to woo Jeeves. Amid Bertie's efforts to make his declaration and still be a preux chevalier, he has to deal with Tuppy and Angela's squabbling, a long-eared owl resembling Aunt Agatha, Jeeves's pajamas, a sprained ankle, a housefire, and an appallingly attractive French tennis coach.

The style is deliciously meandering and anecdotal, and Bertie is bright, doofy and magnificently goodhearted. If you want to get lost for a few hours, there are few better fics.

05:13 pm Three Canon Pairing Drabbles by Hyel (G, PG-13, R)
Fandom: JEEVES & WOOSTER
Pairing: Bingo/Rosie, Gussie/Emerald, Madeline/Spode
Length: 500 words total
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hyel
Author Website: Absurd Concept
Why this must be read:

I know: het fic? In the Jooster fandom? What is this madness?

But in these three little snapshots, Hyel's done something remarkable. Secondary characters who in most fic tend to get forgotten or to serve only as cardboard obstacles to the OTP here get POVs, and romances, of their own. All three drabbles are marvelously in character, and range from adorable to quietly sad.

08:57 pm What Happens to Dreamers by Buckingham (PG-13)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Length: 120k
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: on Gossamer
Why this must be read:

I'm happy to get to rec one of my top favorite stories. The in-vitro storyline was never properly developed or addressed in season eight of TXF, leaving fic writers to pick up the pieces. This fic does that, and does it well, following the emotional ramifications of Scully's attempt to have a child and Mulder's attempt to help her. It's beautifully written and beautifully in character, and it will make you ache. I probably reread it four or five times a year.
