05:52 pm Call the Darkness, Hear It Answer by Cero_ate (NC-17)
Fandom: DC Comics
Pairing: Roy Harper/Jason Todd
Length: one-shot
Author on LJ: cero_ate
Author Website: N/A
Why this must be read:

This story is a lovely example of PWP, and Cero does manage to tell it in a way that is so clearly Roy and Jason (as opposed to Random Guy One and Random Guy Two), and that makes the story all the more warm and lovely in the way that salt in the wound is lovely. While both of them are enjoying their interlude, it's definitely All About Their Dick Issues (as I'm inclined to believe any Roy/Jason story should be) and yet, it's not an angst fest at all, as it could be in the hands of a lesser writer.

Brother-dear ought to guard his toys better, because his “Little Wing” had no problem with playing with them for him, and if they were broken if Jay decided to give him back? Well, shouldn’t leave your toys looking like that for other people to see.

Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Krycek, Mulder/Scully, Krycek/Scully
Length: 91K
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] veefic
Author Website: Vehemently's Fan Fiction
Why this must be read:

Mulder/Krycek, Mulder/Scully, Krycek/Scully?

Seriously, there is a very interesting plot here that sets up the very interesting relationship drama that unfolds. What would happen if Mulder decided to go to the dark side and join the Syndicate? This is tightly written, and Vehemently just keeps rolling out the surprises. This story grabbed me and wouldn't let go.

10:51 pm Five Stages of Love, by scarab_dynasty (PG)
(As the end of the month approaches rapidly...)

Fandom: ACE LIGHTNING
Pairing: Lady Illusion/Sparx
Length: Series of five shorts for the [livejournal.com profile] stagesoflove challenge.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] scarab_dynasty
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] dynasty_fic, Fanfiction.net

Why this must be read:

Sparx! Lady Illusion! Plausibly femslashy! I love the pairing, and I also think the writing's good. It takes time--of course--to build, and comes together in a way that really works for their characters. I love the fact fic like this exists.

11:38 pm VID REC: Ace Lightning Tribute, by Evilgidgit
Vidder: Evilgidgit/Wile E. Coyote/Rotgut
Musical Artist: Four Square
Song: Ace Lightning theme
Pairing: None
Vidder Sites:: Fanfiction.net

Why this vid kicks ass:

It's a screencap vid, made with limited resources; but it's the first vid to come up on YouTube in a search for the show's name, and it makes good use of those screencaps and the full version of Four Square's theme tune.

There's a hero in us all...

Vidder: ScarabD/Scarab Dynasty
Song: 'Say the Word', from Kim Possible
Pairing: None
Vidder Sites: Fanfiction.net, [livejournal.com profile] dynasty_fic

Why this vid kicks ass:

Ace Lightning set to Kim Possible--two differently-flavoured hero shows starring a feisty redhead and a more laid-back blond. I suppose the crossover was inevitable. This one's a fun one; Sparx gets the principal role, of course, and the other two Knights also get a look-in. The vidder tries a few effects, with excellent results.

11:54 pm The Serpent's Kiss by Nemesis (PG)
Fandom: Star Wars
Pairing: N/A
Length Mid-length one-shot
Author on LJ: Can't find.
Author Website: http://boards.theforce.net/ASP/user.asp?usr=JediNemesis
Why this must be read:

An OC horror fic, this story is easy to get into, creepy, and oddly fun, and it includes original poetry in the form of a very real-feeling singsong children's rhyme that chants its way through the dangers of the tale.

Fandom: Star Wars
Pairing: N/A
Length: Short one-shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dreagoddess
Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/~andrea13 or http://boards.theforce.net/ASP/user.asp?usr=Dreagoddess
Why this must be read: This is a beautiful, extraordinarily vivid exploration of Dooku in the afterlife -- with one last second chance. The world his mind shows him is a place he's never been, but the readers have seen -- the place where Qui-Gon died. The choice Qui-Gon shows him goes far beyond the original confines of the image.

11:57 pm Deep Sky by Teluekh (PG)
Fandom: Star Wars
Pairing: OC/Qui-Gon, but not central
Length: Four chapters
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] teluekh
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] teluekh
Why this must be read:

This is a very atmospheric story, though the author might kick me for that choice of adjective. (So might the reader, once you figure out why.) Qui-Gon and Dooku visit Serenno, Dooku's home planet, for reasons relating to Dooku's family. Teluekh plays more wildly with the nature of the planet than the movies and more than a good part of the EU, and the culture of it is just as deep and perhaps as potentially smothering. Make your own judgment.

Her portrayal of the relationship between Qui-Gon and Dooku is intense, both of them very deeply invested in it -- or at least in its ultimate purpose -- and definitely caring, without making it overtly affectionate in the way many authors choose or default to. Dooku is a demanding teacher, more so because he demands independent operation as much as he does obedience.

Over the course of the story, Qui-Gon sleeps with Dooku's mother, makes a new friend, undergoes a coming-of-age ritual, and even manages to surprise Dooku once or twice. Dooku has his own problems.
