Fandom: Smallville Pairing: Clark/Lex Length: 770 words Author on LJ: ingrid_m Author's website: unknown Why this must be read: I came across this little gem just tonight. I thought it would make a wonderful counterpoint to the longer and more serious fics I have been posting. It is funny (some bits were hysterical) and sweet. It lifted my spirits and made me laugh. Here is a short sample: At least there were no more of those flying six-inch long roaches from hell, so-called palmetto bugs. The first one he saw scared him witless and Superman-Shmooperman, he was going to blast the next one he encountered to a flaming Kingdom Come.
Ingrid's LJ is friend locked and I haven't found a website for her Smallville fics. However, she is posted on SSA. So the following link will take you there. Flew

Fandom: CW RPS Pairing: Jared Padalecki/Jensen Ackles Author on LJ: esohpeAuthor Website: EsohpeWhy this must be read: A few years after Supernatural ends, Jared is a big movie star and Jensen is a down on his luck actor. When Jensen is offered a role in Jared's new movie, the boys have to overcome their past differences and work together to rebuild their friendship. I love the fact that esohpe has Jared and Jensen on the outs after Supernatural ends. She uses Jensen's anger and his mistrust of his former co-star to explain why Jensen is so bitter of Jared's movie success. And poor Jared, he is just trying to win back Jensen's love and respect and Jensen is not making it easy for him! A great, angsty, well-written read that is satisfying all round. Sometimes a great bandom story will tap into a world you've only seen flashes of, vans and stages and touring and sweat, and you'll love it for fleshing out the life you dream about. Other stories, though, aren't trying for that kind of realism. They take the tiny pieces of life we see and weave them with something bigger, something of their own, and they make it into a story. Fandom: Bandom (MCR) Pairing: Frank/Gerard Length: 18,783 Author on LJ: jjtaylorWhy this must be read: Because I'm reccing you a slow, pretty one this time. In this story, Frank sits in his office cubicle and dreams - not of being a rockstar, but of making something, of being creative, productive, connected. And so, one day, he starts working at a bakery. He meets Bob (do not call him Bob the Baker, he will end you) and Ray, and Mikey the computer whiz, and then he meets Gerard, the artist who loves his bread. Gerard finally notices that Frank has brought a loaf of bread, and he descends on it. "You made this!" he says, slicing into it. "That's fucking awesome." And then he gets this very serious expression on his face and Frank is worried that maybe Gerard is allergic to raisins, or maybe there's a fingertip inside the bread. He stupidly looks down at his hands. Gerard comes over, very close, standing nearly over Frank. "Do I toast it?" Gerard asks with utmost seriousness. From the corner of his eye, Frank sees Mikey cover his eyes and shake his head. Which would be pretty much enough for me to love it, but there's more! Intrigue and suspense and cross-purpose boy-fumbling! Just - read it and let it please you. Buy Handmade by JJTaylor

Fandom: HIGHLANDER Crossover with: THE SENTINEL Pairing: Duncan/Methos, Jim/Blair Length: Long Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: Crosswords Why this must be read:
Circle is a quest story in the epic tradition. An evil even greater than Ahriman threatens the world and a strange 2000 year old immortal who has never taken a head assembles a group of mortals and immortals to combat it. Circle does justice to our favorites in both Highlander and The Sentinel, plus giving us some of the most unusual and compelling original characters in fandom. It includes trips to other realms and the Underworld, the return of the Horsemen, and a satisfying twist. It's a roller-coaster ride well worth the time.

Fandom: HOUSE MD Pairing: none (House-focused, mentions of Wilson/Amber) Length: 2,200 words Author on LJ: bammelAuthor Website: Fic list on LJWhy this must be read:"Mired in self-loathing, topped by a thin crust of megalomania" -- Wilson about House, in "Don't Ever Change"What happens when the thin crust cracks and falls away? Bammel knows, and shows it in this post-ep for the Season Four closer, "Wilson's Heart." Desperate and sad, the progression of this story is heartbreaking but oh so believable for House. To me, House is all about inertia: when he's moving he keeps moving, but when he stops... The extreme end of that is demonstrated clearly here. Afterimage

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH Pairing: Starsky/Hutch (slash) Length: 25K Author on LJ: DNA Author Website: http://meandthee.shahrazad.net/ (I believe her stories are all archived here.) Why this must be read: Paula is someone who had a tremendous impact on Starsky & Hutch fandom before she passed away far too young. The Paula Wilshe Award for New Writers is awarded annually in her memory. I came to the community too late to know her. But I've enjoyed her stories immensely. She wrote both gen and slash. Her fic is characterized by a warmth both between S&H and for them as characters. You can tell Paula just adored this universe and the men at its center. Her love and enthusiasm for the Bay City boys come through in every line of dialogue, every glance, every action. Her work is such a pleasure. This is one of those stories I haven't heard talked about much, so I thought I would highlight it. It's set post-SR. The guys have been together romantically for three years at this point, and are celebrating Hutch's 39th birthday at a cabin in the woods. If you know anything at all about this fandom, you know trouble can only be lurking in the wings. Hutch rises early and decides to take advantage of their setting by heading outside to enjoy the beautiful morning. Mistake. Bad mistake. If you like hurt/comfort (check), sweetness between S&H (check), a pinch of humor (check) balanced by a pinch of angst (check), this story is a treat. Thirty-Nine
