Title: The Unwritten Series Pairing: Jack/Blair, Jim/Daniel, Jim/Blair, Jack/Daniel Author on LJ: gardendoorAuthor Website: The Gardendoor Fanfiction Archive Why this must be read:Given the alien technology and the potential usefulness of both a Sentinel and an anthropologist to the Stargate team, TS/SG-1 crossovers are a natural. Not to mention they double that great slashy vibe of military hardass/brainy academic. This is a lovely set of four interconnected stories that describe a complex relationship between Jim and Blair and Jack and Daniel. Although there's a few detours, both the OTPs are together by the end. And by the final piece in the quartet, you can see how everything fits together, like an intricate puzzle, with each pair facing their own unique demons, thanks to their experiences with each other. Title: Silent Legacy Pairing: Obi-Wan Kenobi/Qui-Gon Jinn Author: Black Rose Length: 133k words Author on LJ: darthnekoWebsite: On JournalfenWhy this must be read:It must still be the fifteenth in American Samoa, so here goes. Black Rose's "Silent Legacy" takes us to a world of hypersenses that is just a little different than the Force's. The comparison of Light Side to Dark Side in either world gets muddled when a Jedi experiences both worlds with their separate intense passions. Black Rose's prose mirrors Rice's lush phrasing and there is a beginning scene with raindrops nearly taking on a life of their own in a marvelous, bewitching way. Without revealing the plot too much, one Jedi calls to the other in his lost state, but is the call asking for rescue or companionship? There is an unfinished sequel here; however, this story stands most satisfyingly complete. Warnings for blood, but then it is an undead story. Silent Legacy

Fandom: HOUSE MD Title: Game Theory and Strategy Pairings: House/Wilson, House/Cuddy, Wilson/Cuddy (House/Wilson/Cuddy) Length: 8600 Author on LJ: oldblueWhy this must be read:Whenever the show has dealt with the House/Wilson/Cuddy triangle, the end product has been hilarious, resulting in episodes like 'Act Your Age'. This story takes off with the familiar scenario - Wilson and Cuddy appear to be dating, and House is worried - and leads our heroes down paths of awesome as House tries to intervene: by doing absolutely nothing. I would recommend this story for the House-voice alone, because rarely do you come across such a pitch-perfect voice in fanfiction. It's a Friday night in July, at the end of an exceptionally hot and dry month, when Wilson takes Cuddy out to dinner at a fancy new Italian place downtown.
House knows this because he follows them from the hospital, through grimy, oil-stained streets, and to the parking lot of a Starbuck's across from the restaurant. He notes the way Wilson's hand lingers on the small of Cuddy's back as he holds the door open for her, the way she laughs at something Wilson says on the way in.
Now it's Monday morning, and he's got nothing to do but think about the date -- because he's absolutely sure now that it was, in fact, a date. The pacing is perfect, the sexings are hot and the story is just long enough for you to really sink your teeth in. Go read! Game Theory and Strategy

Fandom: Sapphire and Steel Pairing: Steel/Jet/Lead (m/f/m) Author on LJ: kickair8pAuthor Website: Why this must be read: I don't tend to read anything outside of gen when it comes to Sapphire and Steel. When I do read something with a pairing I like it to be something that focuses on the fact that the characters aren't human. It's one of the things I find most appealing about the characters and when the author focuses on that I find it fascinating the ways in which it can work out. Kickair8p writes a lovely PWP that also manages to highlight all the ways in which the people involved aren't human in any way. I like that. Needs

Fandom: HEROES Pairing: none Length: 2209 words Author on LJ: alicebluegown16 Author Website: story page on ff.netWhy this must be read: In Season 2 we were introduced to Matt Parkman's father, but we never learn anything about his mother. Alice gives us five versions, each completely plausible - from abused wife to glamorous time-hopper. Each is heartbreaking, each is perfectly written, each creates a convincing character in just a few paragraph. And each could have very well made Matt the person he is and might become. Sorry this is late - I have no excuse, I just completely spaced it yesterday. *headdesk* Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: Mal/Simon Length: 2K Author on LJ: tanisafanAuthor Website: just her LJ Why this must be read: This is a lovely Simon POV fic; it's short, but oh so worth it. Mal gets injured on a job again, and this time it pisses Simon off more than usual. I've always felt that Simon gets shafted in Firefly fic a lot. He's the one that's always feminized or has to be rescued like a damsel in distress. So it's nice to see him get really irritated and pissy, even while he's trying to take care of Mal, who isn't helping. Five things about Mal that get under Simon’s skin

Fandom: STAR WARS Pairing: Obi-Wan Kenobi/tentacles Length: 6,444 words Author on LJ: silverblood666Website: Many more ficsWhy this must be readBecause it is hentai. Hentai is a fanfiction phenomenon worth noting, and this story illustrates its appeal: the something foreign that creeps up upon us, strangely alluring and most of all, taking away volition. I guess it's non-con, but with an alien tentacled creature, who can say? Like Hurricane Ike, the thing acts inexplicably, but in a much nicer manner than Ike. Silverblood666 writes a thoroughly good Obi-Kin (Anakin/Obi-Wan friendship) fic here also; and the action of the story rolls right along logically and emotionally. Even Arfour, little droid lost in Revenge of the Sith, gets a nice bit of characterization. Tossers

I missed crossover day but was kindly given permission to post late. This one is Sapphire and Steel/Buffy: The Vampire Slayer Fandom: Sapphire and Steel Pairing: Willow/Tara (Buffy) Length: 1800 Author on LJ: ? Author Website: http://www.cyberpomo.com/Why this must be read: This fic takes place at the very end of the Buffy episode Seeing Red. Here Time offers Willow a deal to save Tara's life and she takes it. Through a series of time loops we are shown how Time is using Willow as well as Sapphire and Steel working to stop her. Seeing Red is one of the most emotional episodes of Buffy (for me anyways) and this fic makes it all the more painful. A good kind of pain though. ( Snippet to entice )Assignment Sunnydale

I missed crossover day but was kindly given permission to post late. This one is Sapphire and Steel/Torchwood. Fandom: Sapphire and Steel Pairing: None Length: ~2330 words Author on LJ: jadesfire2808Author Website: Complete list of storiesWhy this must be read:I love this fic because it once again emphisises the fact that Sapphire and Steel aren't human and don't think like humans. Their concern is Time and fixing problems with it not with making sure people have happy endings. This can cause any number of problems during the course of an investigation though. This story takes place after the Torchwood episode Out of Time and deals with just how Sapphire and Steel would have to fix the problem presented by the episode. Specifically Emma. Jack here is spot on with his arguments to stop them and Sapphire and Steel are perfect in their interactions. Prices

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Pairing/Characters: Jack Harkness/Turlough Author on LJ: n/a Author Website: profile on TeaspoonLength: ~4,100 words Why this must be read: This works unbelievably well. A wet-behind-the-ears Jack visits Turlough at school just prior to Mawdryn Undead; he's there to get a reading for the Time Agency, and Turlough's determined to find a way off of Earth. Turlough is written just dead-on, and it's fabulous fun to watch minxy, conniving Turlough outthink a green Jack (which you don't see enough of in fic). Add in some hilarious bits (Jack's ideas of fashion in the 1980s), some meta bits (thoughts on ages of schoolboys and that Jack ends up wearing Ten's outfit), and some quite hot bits and you get something really different and very clever and very fun. Fandom: CWRPS Pairing: Chad Michael Murray/Sofia Bush Length: ~4,000 Author on LJ: moosesalAuthor Website: None. Why this must be read: I can't believe I'm actually writing this, but Chad Michael Murray does not get a lot of love in fandom. The truth is, I'm not a Chad fan myself, but every once in a while, a good enough writer can get me to buy into some Chad. moosesal is one of them. moosesal describes this as "the dirtiest thing I've ever written". And with pegging, ATM (ass to mouth), dirty-talking het in the mix, I see no reason to disagree with her. But although the porn is hot--and it is hot--what I like most about this is the underlying current of emotion. This is the story of people who are over, have been over for a while...but still can't get past that little bit of something still between them. It sears and then it aches.
