09:10 am Zeus of the Departed by Alinewrites (NC-17)
Fandom: DRAKE’S VENTURE
Pairing: Thomas/Francis
Length: ~3000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] alinewrites
Author Website: DV Fiction by Alinewrites on LJ
Why this must be read: Written for the [livejournal.com profile] dv_squee  Requestathon on the prompt “Thomas is Persephone, Francis is Hades,” everyone immediately guessed that the author was [livejournal.com profile] alinewrites due to the stunningly gorgeous sensory detail (and the blue cloak!) This fic is a true AR – you don’t have to be familiar with Drake’s Venture to understand it. Take it as pure myth, if you like.

Tapping his fingers lightly against the thick wood of the conjugal bed, Persephonos watched as the darkness was progressively dispelled, pushed away into the furthest corners of the room. There were no torches, no lamps but the walls and the ceiling seemed to glow softly, more and more with every second, bathing the room in a quiet soft light not unlike the delicious brightness of a late summer afternoon on Earth. Near the bed was a basket of fresh fruits and scented herbs – every night a servant changed them as well as the flowers in the bowls. Closing his eyes again Persephonos revelled in the scent of mint, thyme and blooming roses. In crystal goblets, gems and diamonds cast coloured sparkles that seemed to dance on the walls like butterflies.

Aidoneos does this for me, he thought with a touch of pride and some amusement. The dark fearful God of the Dead goes to such lengths for me only.

Characters: Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Bruce Wayne, Lana Lang
Pairing: Bruce/Chloe mentioned, Clark/Lois complicated, Lex/Lana even more complicated.
Length: novella

Why this must be read:

This fic is from the forum, Divine Intervention which requires registration but it's free and there are some pretty awesome gems in there, both one-shots and serials. I don't usually like forum/message board set-ups for fics; I like simple, book-like set-ups for my fics and for those danged kids to get off my lawn. This fic makes it worthwhile.

The story begins five years after Clark has disappeared in Season 6, shocked into training by the loss of someone very dear to him. He returned to avenge that persons' death and to free Lex Luthor, whom he believes was framed for murder. Unfortunately, his friends didn't take his disappearance too well and there are relationships to mend as well as a killer to catch.

There are no stereotypical guys when Scribe writes. Everyone has a motive and their actions sometimes forgive those motives. Clark can be a well-meaning prick, Lana can be a loving but unforgiving mother, Lex can be truly contrite yet scheming and Lois... well, okay, Lois is still Lois but DAMN is she fantastic!

12:30 pm Relapse by Madripoor_Rose (R)
Fandom: DC Comics
Pairing: Blue Beetle (Ted Kord)/Booster Gold
Length: 415 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] madripoor_rose
Author Website: [none]
Why this must be read:
"Boostle" or "Beester" as fans tend to call them, are two joined-at-the-brain dorks and their relationship is so canonically slashy, but yet so cute, that it's hard to write them more than PG-13. Very few authors can head into Adult Territory and still keep them *them*.

Well, in the most recent Porn Battle, [livejournal.com profile] madripoor_rose did just that, with a story that's sweet and crazy and very much Booster being Booster and Beetle being Beetle.

Relapse.

08:14 pm Water Rights by LKY (PG)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: N/A
Length: 25,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lky
Author Website: Tales by LKY
Why this must be read:

All of LKY's stories are fantastic, so I picked the first story in her Dry Fall Chronicles to rec just because I love the whole series. Blair and Jim go up to visit Blair's "Uncle", enjoy the nice weather, and do some fishing. Shockingly, something goes wrong.

This story manages to be a good casefic, as well as show us some of Blair's past, something the show never did. It works good as a standalone, but will probably suck you right into the series, so expect to spend some serious time on this.
