Fandom: STAR TREK VOYAGER
Pairing: Paris/Torres, Paris/other
Length: short
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] seperis
Author Website: Indulgence
Why this must be read: What I like best about this fic is that I don't really know what's going on. Tom's past is always a shadow flickering around the edges, never quite clear what exactly happened. There were bad times, there were good times, and there were those times when everything just blurs together and you wake up in the middle of the night remembering it all. This is one of those times.

It was hot--he remembered that.

Carnival. On a planet that never slept.

Stripped to shorts, a humid night, so high he didn't know his own name, dancing under naked stars he didn't fly with anymore.

That was okay. This flying was just fine.

10:13 am We must have died alone, a long long time ago by halfdutch (R)
Fandom: LOST
Pairing: Sawyer/Juliet, mentions of Sawyer/Kate and Jack/Juliet
Length: 1446
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] halfdutch
Author Website: Master fic list

Why this must be read:
It's only been a few hours since the chopper left, but already it seems like they were never here.

[livejournal.com profile] halfdutch is another of my favourite authors, and even though I'm particularly fond of her Jack/Sawyer fics (see above for the rec of her fic The Mix-Up), I'm choosing "We must have died alone, a long long time ago" because this fic - set after the end of s4 - made me fall in love with this pairing.

She writes Sawyer and Juliet flawlessly, with the mixture of strenght and weakness that is so attractive in both of them. I loved how believable is the implicit connection between them in this fic: under the disguise of a simple way to draw comfort from each other, somehow a more intimate message passes between them.

Excerpt:
She's not sure if she's the one who gets out the bottles of wine or if it's Sawyer, but they end up on her couch, too spent to do anything but drink in moody silence. She squints at the painting of a sailboat on her living room wall. She's going to have to look at that same stupid painting every day of the rest of her life. She's never getting off this goddamned island.

10:15 am The Mix-Up by halfdutch (NC-17)
Fandom: LOST
Pairing: Jack/Sawyer
Length: 4000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] halfdutch
Author Website: Master fic list

Why this must be read:This is one of the fics I read whenever I'm feeling the need for a good and satisfying J/S fix. It's AU, very sexy and with hurt/comfort, sort of.

I debated for a while whether to rec this one or the previous Sawyer/Juliet by the same author (We must have died alone, a long long time ago, see below for the rec). At first I settled on the other one, mostly because I wanted to rec different kind of fics, showing that the Lost fandom has a lot to offer for every taste. But then I remembered that there's no upper limit for recs for fandoms featured only once in a while, and I really wanted to share this old favourite with you, hoping you'll enjoy it as I did.

This fic is raw and loving at the same time, and of course, hot. And [livejournal.com profile] halfdutch writes some of the best descriptions of Sawyer, both his appearance (his hair!) and his attitude, with every little gesture being very sensuous.

Summary: The wrong escort shows up at Jack's hotel room.

Excerpt:
"At least you’re blonde," Jack said and somehow he was laughing. The situation really was absurd. And God he was drunk. His hands had that weird, rubbery feeling like they didn’t even belong to him anymore.

"Yeah, and a real one," Sawyer chuckled in return. "Though I guess you don’t care to find out."

10:25 am The Cat Has It by MinnieK (PG)
Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH
Pairing: gen
Length: 79K
Author on LJ: none known
Website: Starsky and Hutch Archive
Why this must be read:

During the last few months, I’ve been tagging online Starsky and Hutch fiction. (Tagging Bay City), and the project, among other wonderful things, has introduced me to some fabulous fiction.

For my stint at the wheel, I’m going to rec some little gems I’ve run across in my anal and frankly alarming careful and detailed research.

This wonderful thing by MinnieK makes me laugh, both for the misunderstandings, and for what it is that Hutch’s has been up to.

11:58 am A Note to Follow So by ginnytonnick (NC17)
This fic features The Used heavily. I reccommend checking out this primer by [livejournal.com profile] turnyourankle to learn all you maybe didn't want to know about The Used and their relationship to My Chem.

Fandom: BANDOM (My Chemical Romance, The Used)
Pairing: Bob/Brian
Length: +21k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ginnytonnick (previously nardasarmy)
Author website: [livejournal.com profile] fishbowlmermaid
Why this must be read:

Written for the first [livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang challenge, this fic has so many things I love about Bandom fic; dirty boys packed into shitty vans and busses, sleeping at crappy Nowheresville motels, living on top of each other, and kind of stumbling along on the "rock star lifestyle".

This fic is from Bob Bryar's point of view, while he was still sound tech for The Used, and good friends with Brian Schechter, My Chemical Romance's brand new manager and The Used's tour manager. It features some great canon reality worked into a story about a growing relationship. As well as that [livejournal.com profile] ginnytonnick does not do what others might, and allows The Used to be good guys, despite their bad habits, and has Otter (My Chem's previous drummer) play an important part in the story.

Bob Bryar goes from being the sound guy for The Used to the drummer in My Chemical Romance, finding time to kiss Brian Schechter along the way. )

12:09 pm Homing by Sophia Prester (pg)
Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: none – Ellen-centric gen (incidental Ellen/Bill)
Length: ~24k words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sophiap
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] presterpress
Why this must be read:

Homing is an absolutely stunning story that fills in Ellen's backstory using a layered narrative detailing her childhood, her marriage to Bill, and her life raising Jo at the Roadhouse after Bill's death. Beautiful, vivid writing full of truth, palpable emotion, and insightful characterization.

I cannot recommend this story highly enough. Set aside some time, because you won't be able to stop reading once you've started, and make sure to leave the author feedback when you're done.

02:33 pm Baby you're so new age, you're like my new craze by Zelda Zee (NC-17)
Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: Chris/Justin
Length: 9,189 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] zelda_zee
Author Website: LJ Fic Tag
Why this must be read: Because I have a thing for long-term pining that isn't full of girly-stuff and perfect memories. And because [livejournal.com profile] zelda_zee writes hot sex but it's the kissing I remember. Disclaimer: I helped beta this fic.

11:29 pm Ascent to Tartarus by Enthusiastic Fish (K+)
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: None
Length: 14k -one of her shorter ones
Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1265076/Enthusiastic_Fish
Why this must be read:

Enthusiastic Fish has got to be my favourite Tim character writer. When combined with great Angst and Hurt/ Comfort situations, spot on dialogue for all cast members and novel situations, she is the best at putting Tim in trouble and then getting him out. In this case it is a Tim and the women of NCIS, Erinyes. Eumenides. Alecto, Megaera, Tisiphone. The Furies.

11:43 pm Numb3rs 1 Through 30, by Jennamajig (PG)
Fandom: NUMB3RS
Characters: Don, Charlie, Alan, Margaret
Length: 24,577 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jennamajig
Author Website: Stories (and other things)
Why this must be read:

Don, more Don. Charlie. P vs NP.

Using a series of sharp, insightful, and sometimes touching vignettes, Jennamajig tells Don's story up until the Numb3rs premiere. I love fics that fill in backstories. This one builds on the glimpses we get in the series. I consider it canon (well, it should be).
