Hey there! I'm Lyr, and I'll be driving the Firefly van for November. I read a wide variety of genres and pairings all across the spectrum of slash, femslash, and gen; accordingly, I'm going to try to present y'all with a pretty diverse selection of fine works this month. All aboard! Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: Gen Length: 1127 words Author on LJ: lunabee34Author Website: The Slash ClosetWhy this must be read: One of the most fascinating things about the Firefly 'verse is its rich texture. So often while watching canon I found myself wondering about events and characters off in the shadowy sidelines. Fortunately, Lorraine's particular genius as a writer is a wonderful ability to bring glorious illumination to just such sidelines, so it's no surprise that this story is a beautifully detailed, elegantly economical exploration of Regan Tam. This tale adds depth and pitiable humanity to a character whom one cannot really find likeable in canon, and makes an already vibrant 'verse seem just that much more vivid and compelling. I am very excited to get to rec Stargate SG-1 fic this month. I admit I have a very marked preference for slash, for Cameron Mitchell, and for Daniel Jackson, but I will try to provide a variety this month. I hope you'll find something you like. Don't forget to feed the authors! Fandom: STARGATE SG-1 Pairing: Jack O'Neill /Daniel Jackson Length: 10,110 words Author on LJ: lokeis_penAuthor Website: Master Fiction ListWhy this must be read:I love stories about telepathy. For some reason, I like the idea of them not being able to hide from each other. This is a good one. I like how the team relates to each other in a very team-like way. This has a good plot, good dialogue, and good interaction between Daniel and Jack. Sotto Voce

Fandom: MARVEL: IRON MAN (Movie) Pairing: Tony Stark/Pepper Potts Length: 1,600 words Author on LJ: splash_the_catAuthor Website: InfanityWhy this must be read: Tony goes on holiday, but he's never far from Pepper's mind... or Blackberry. This is an epistolary not-quite-romance with a comic touch. The voices are pitch perfect, and the tensions zings from the screen. The snark! The unspoken insults! The sartorial decadence! Mmmmm. Read it. Wish You Were Here

Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Kowalski/Vecchio Author on LJ: brynnmckAuthor Website: Brynn's home pageWhy this must be read:This is an AU where the two Rays know each other as teenagers. I'd never considered that AU possibility before, but it felt so right, and brynnmck writes it so vividly that I can just see it all in my mind. They are both such gawky, lovable boys here. But it's not a fluffy story--it's also about Ray Vecchio's relationship with his abusive father, and Ray's struggle over how to handle that and still be loyal to his family. And Kowalski--he has his own problems, but his fierce, awkward protectiveness of Vecchio is so touching. Highway's jammed with broken heroes

Fandom: SUPERNATURAL Pairing: none; gen featuring John Winchester and the yellow-eyed demon Length: ~2,700 words Author on LJ: uschickensAuthor Website: The Kitsch N SyncWhy this must be read:John ends up in hell, and so does Azazel, and what better torment for them than to be stuck in hell together? Torment for them, maybe, but in the hands of uschickens, it's COMEDY GOLD for the rest of us. This story is utterly hilarious and awesome. When I say it is laugh out loud funny, I mean that literally. This is fall-off-the-bed, wake-up-the-dog funny. ( an excerpt )If that isn't enough, let me say one more thing. You guys, there are crafts. John Winchester. And Azazel. Crafting. If that is not a recipe for hilarity, I don't know what is. Read, laugh, and leave a comment for the author when you're done laughing. (It might take a while.) Tchaikovsky's Another One Bites The Dust by uschickens***

Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: Jim/Blair Length: 118 kb text file Author on LJ: Not known Author Website: http://www.nightroadsassoc.com/Why this must be read:I've said before that I like AUs. This one - Blair really is a hippy, and a former soldier returned from Vietnam. Jim's a university professor. Feel free to raise your eyebrows, but I think the author sells it. Jim and Blair still manage to fall in love, and get in trouble. This story is placed firmly in the culture and politics of its setting, and it's something out of the normal for TS stories. I like it. Maybe you will too. The Measure of Our Youth

Fandom: STARGATE: ATLANTIS Pairing:Gen Characters:Lorne, Sheppard, Mitchell, Zelenka, Lee and a few cameos. Length: 18K Author on LJ: leahwoofAuthor Website:Author on WraithbaitWhy this must be read:This story is a prequel to Male Enhancement (The Soul and the Company Store Remix), which has already been recc'd on crack_van. But where that story is exclusively focused on John and Rodney, this story is about what happened to John and Cam as they grew up. It's solid character study stuff, told from Lorne's perspective, and through him, we see them first as 'brave little toasters', and latter as robotic dogs, and rough-and-tumble young boys. But Evan can't protect them from everything bad that happens in life, and eventually, even robot boys have to grow up... Muscle and Blood and Skin and Bones

Hi there! My name is Susan and I'll be driving the Magnificent Seven crack van this month. I read gen and slash with the occasional het story if I know the author's work so I hope to have a nice variety this month. I do have a favorite character so he will tend to show up in the fics I reccommend. So, here is the first one Fandom: Magnificent Seven Pairing: Gen, with all seven in the fic Length: 25,600 words Author on LJ: N/A Author's website: several, for this fic www.all-ezra.comWhy this fic must be read:This is a little late for Halloween as the tone goes well with spookiness and supernatural occurances but it can be read any time of the year. This fic is a great look at all of the Seven; each has a part to play and this shows how well they work together. Ezra is trying to do the right thing and makes an important choice. There is suspense and mystery but doesn't get to extreme horror and the touches of humor throughout really fit the characters and the story. I especially love the joke at the end of the fic. I read this every Halloween as well as other times in the year. Hope you enjoy! www.all-ezra.com/stories/devilsnight.html
