Fortunately, Lorraine's particular genius as a writer is a wonderful ability to bring glorious illumination to just such sidelines, so it's no surprise that this story is a beautifully detailed, elegantly economical exploration of Regan Tam. This tale adds depth and pitiable humanity to a character whom one cannot really find likeable in canon, and makes an already vibrant 'verse seem just that much more vivid and compelling. I'd never considered that AU possibility before, but it felt so right, and brynnmck writes it so vividly that I can just see it all in my mind. They are both such gawky, lovable boys here. But it's not a fluffy story--it's also about Ray Vecchio's relationship with his abusive father, and Ray's struggle over how to handle that and still be loyal to his family. Jim and Blair still manage to fall in love, and get in trouble. This story is placed firmly in the culture and politics of its setting, and it's something out of the normal for TS stories. I like it. It's solid character study stuff, told from Lorne's perspective, and through him, we see them first as 'brave little toasters', and latter as robotic dogs, and rough-and-tumble young boys. Hi there! My name is Susan and I'll be driving the Magnificent Seven crack van this month. I read gen and slash with the occasional het story if I know the author's work so I hope to have a nice variety this month. I do have a favorite character so he will tend to show up in the fics I reccommend. So, here is the first one Fandom: Magnificent Seven Pairing: Gen, with all seven in the fic Length: 25,600 words Author on LJ: N/A Author's website: several, for this fic www.all-ezra.comWhy this fic must be read:This is a little late for Halloween as the tone goes well with spookiness and supernatural occurances but it can be read any time of the year. This fic is a great look at all of the Seven; each has a part to play and this shows how well they work together. Ezra is trying to do the right thing and makes an important choice. There is suspense and mystery but doesn't get to extreme horror and the touches of humor throughout really fit the characters and the story. I especially love the joke at the end of the fic.
