Fandom: LIFE ON MARS/DOCTOR WHO/TORCHWOOD Author: ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif) draegonhawke, aka Magistrate Author's fic site: Draegonhawke's fic tagPairing: Sam Tyler/Captain Jack Harkness Why this must be read: draegonhawke writes in a few different fandoms, and while I haven't read everything she's written, that's only because I only read fic from things with which I'm familiar. On occasion, I think about breaking my self-imposed rules on this matter, and her fics are definitely a reason why---those I've read, anyway. The perspectives with which she writes are usually rather unique, and none moreso than this collection, the very concept of which is incredibly intriguing. The collection takes place along each character's rather twisted timeline, and as such can be arranged and rearranged in a few different orders in order to form the whole of a storyline. Although she hasn't finished the collection yet, and although readers are encouraged to contribute to the universe she's created, the canon is all hers, and the stories written thus far stand on their own, which is why I rec it. Fandom: LOST Pairing: Jack/Boone Length: 3375 Author on LJ: janie_tangerineAuthor Website: Master Fic list. Why this must be read: A very prolific writer, janie_tangerine writes complex and evocative stories, often dealing with neglected characters. She writes a lot of different pairings and hilarious crack!fics, but she's also the 'official' Boone lover in the fandom. This fic, in particular, portrays a more mature and intriguing - but not less in character - Boone, helping a post-rescue, drunken and devasted by guilt Jack cope. It's a long process, to make Jack better, and it's beautiful to read. Summary: It isn’t really a surprise when he appears one day when Jack is really drunk; he was the only one missing after all and it’s just fitting that he’s the last. The first and the last, how damn ironic.Excerpt: He sits on his mattress, his back up to the wall, a half empty whiskey bottle in his hand, ready for the lecture. He doesn’t even look at him after the first glance. He just waits for Boone to start 'you have to go back'-ing him but what he hears is not what he was expecting.

It's also possibly strangely familiar, even to readers who don't read TS, as certain fanfic themes are likely universal. The story? Fandom: HARRY POTTER Pairing: harry/hermione/snape Length: 36k Author Website: hereWhy this must be read: peony hellbore does a fantastic job stranding harry, hermione and a very begrudging snape in the united states midwest, and leaving us to poor, sexually frustrated harry's inner monologue. a spell gone awry, buckets of sexual tension, roadtripping and snark. this is what happens when you leave the magical world of hogwarts and get down & dirty in the (low)country.
