06:17 am "The First Time Rachel Maddow Slept With the PRT" by bessemerprocess (PG-15)
Fandom: RPF - FAKE NEWS
Pairing: Mentions Keith Olbermann/Anderson Cooper
Length: 2483 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bessemerprocess
Author Website: Her fic tag.
Why this must be read:

The first weird thing this fandom did (well, the first one that's relevant to my explanation) was adopt Keith Olbermann and Anderson Cooper into what became known as the Pundit Round Table. There is no real reason why I should be reccing you Olbermann/Cooper fic during my Fake News month, and yet here they are.

The second weird thing this fandom did was to decide that, you know what? Rachel Maddow is awesome. She should be in the PRT too. The First Time ... is a great example of how fandom is incorporating a new 'character' into the fanon. And it's a great read, too.

07:26 am Flicks, by pink_bagels (PG-13)
FANDOM: LIFE ON MARS
AUTHOR: [livejournal.com profile] pink_bagels
AUTHOR’S FIC SITE: Pink_Bagels’ LoM Fic Tag
PAIRING: Sam/Annie (sort of)
LENGTH: 24,262 words (over the course of 8 parts)
WHY THIS MUST BE READ: Given the central conceit of Life on Mars, it’s reasonable to expect that Sam Tyler, as explored in fic, will make occasional references to Special Knowledge of the Future That Only He Can Have. Hell, he does that in canon. But this fic takes this idea just that little bit further, and is brilliant with it. Take a read and watch [livejournal.com profile] pink_bagels wreak merry havoc with your senses; it’s an horrific and suspenseful ride that’s well worth taking.

10:36 am Like the Sea by caelumi (nc-17)
Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Dean/girl!Sam
Length: 1,190 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] caelumi
Author Website: tag list on LJ
Why this must be read:

One of my absolute favorite things in Supernatural fandom is the genre known as Winsister, i.e., AUs in which one of the boys (usually Sam) was actually born (and raised) a girl.

This is a vividly beautiful, achy, hot story in which Dean visits his sister Sam at Stanford, has mad hot sex with her, and then leaves, because it doesn't really change anything, even though he's not doing so well without her.

a brief excerpt, since it is a short story )

Seriously, I know girl!Sam stories are a niche market, but if it's the kind of thing you like, then I think you'll like this story. It's hot and beautifully written and captures all the aching need and love between Sam and Dean in a really short space. And did I mention the hot?

If you do read and enjoy it, please let the author know.

Title: Never As Bad As Anticipated (Until It Is) by [livejournal.com profile] bluflamingo
Pairing: John Sheppard/Cameron Mitchell
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bluflamingo
Author Website: Author's Fic Index
Why this must be read:

I like how [livejournal.com profile] bluflamingo writes Cameron and I like how she writes John. I really like how she writes them together. She makes me see how good they would be together. What I like about this story is how long it is. I like the build-up. She weaves together lots of good action, good dialogue, and pretty men into a seamless whole that's a great read. Lovely way to spend an afternoon. Or two. It is pretty long.

Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: snape/ hermione
Length: 28 chapters, yes its pretty epic.
Author Website: kazVL fic list on fiction alley.

Why this must be read:
okay before i start in on why this is so amazing, i have to let you know this is an unfinished fic. UNFINISHED. so when it abruptly ends, that's it kids. however, with that said it is still amazing. Hermione's parents are tragically murdered and she ends up living at hogwarts and learns about the secret lives of hogwarts teachers when class is finally out of session. she soon gravitates towards severus snape, and finds that not everything is as it seems with him, or anyone else at hogwarts. a tale of masks and what happens when you finally let them slip and see the beauty underneath.

08:45 pm The Prince and the Troublesome Maiden by lord of the land of fire
Belated Greetings! [livejournal.com profile] goldenrat84, your Naruto driver is ready to start reccing.

One of the best things about Naruto is that there are a ton of great characters to write and read about. I'm hoping to showcase that variety during what's left of the month and explore Naruto beyond Team 7. (Not that I don't love Team 7.)

Fandom: NARUTO
Pairing: Shikaku Nara/Yoshino Nara
Length: 10,476
Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1308758/lord_of_the_land_of_fire
Why this must be read:

Shikamaru tells Temari the story of how his parents get together. In which, Shikaku loses his heart in a drinking contest, in more ways then one.

This is one of the cutest courtship stories, yet it still retains the mix of humor and seriousness that makes Naruto the fandom you keep coming back to.

10:58 pm Pirates of The Emerald Dawn by Aranel Took, NC-17
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Kyle Rayner/Hal Jordan
Length: 33,981
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sector_2814
Website: http://sector-2814.fancrone.net/
Why this must be read:

DC Comics naturally lends itself well to Elseworlds, and Aranel Took shows that well in this 11 chapter epic Kyle/Hal love story. It's a fun romp that shows every bit of characterization that makes both Kyle and Hal lovable and frustrating at the same time. Mixed in the story is a lot of plot, a lot of romance and two very pretty boys. Aranel Took also does a great job of expanding the Pirate Verse and showing other well loved characters such as Batman, Wonder Woman, and Wally West.

Go Forth and Read.

11:40 pm The Keeping of Secrets by Amal Nahurriyeh
(Alright, now that midterms are over these recs will be coming fast and furious.)

Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Scully & Ellen, BFFs
Length: One-shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] amalnahurriyeh
Author Website: Fic on LJ
Why this must be read:

This story has female bonding, yo.  An X-Files story with female bonding.  It's ridiculously awesome.  Also, Amal calls Scully 'Dana' throughout the entire fic and it works - which is, as far as I know, unprecedented in this fandom.  History is being made, people.

The fic is from the point of view of Ellen (remember her? Scully's friend from season one, back when she was all perky mcbad-suit and I-have-a-social-life), and her friendship with Scully over the years.  It's a lovely outside look at Scully, with a lot of quiet character touches that I enjoy immensely.  There is one scene per season, plus one for IWTB.

There were days when she wishes she could take it back.  )

11:48 pm The Snake Series by Nottasha (PG)
Fandom:  Magnificent Seven
Pairing: None, Gen Ezra, Chris, Vin, All Seven
Length:  Snake in the Grass-92,000
                Snake on the Loose-80,000
Author on LJ:  [livejournal.com profile] nottasha
Website:  www.nottasha.com/
Why This Must be Read:
Nottasha is a wonderful Mag 7 writer and these two stories are great Ezra fics. It's a look at how Ezra deals with blaming himself over a tragedy and the sacrifices that he is willing to make for the others. A family is brutally murdered and the fallout from that discovery causes tension between Chris and Ezra as they both deal with grief and guilt. All of the Seven play a part in both stories and even with the grim subject there are several funny parts, especially in Nathan's clinic.  I really enjoy this fic and I think it's one of Nottasha's best.
