Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: snape/ hermione
Length: 390. yes, i'll rec something longer tomorrow for you all...
Author Website: [info]annietalbot

Why this must be read: it will take you at most three minutes to read this. yes, three minutes to read. not to think about, not to ponder. those will take much much longer if you are anything like me.

i think annie talbot does an amazing job in only a few short words to paint the picture of a reality that could have been. i'm not a fan of drabbles by any means, but i think the strong point of this is how short it is, and the feeling you are left with in the wake of reading it. i've read this so many times, but it gets better every time i come back to it because of the vivid imagery. (don't trust me? K.I.A. gave it their stamp of approval too!)

12:18 pm A Sense of Touch by liketheroad (PG13)
Fandom: BANDOM (Panic at the Disco)
Pairing: Brendon/Jon/Ryan/Spencer (Panic!GSF)
Length: +16k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] liketheroad
Author website:
"my writing" tag
Why this must be read:

Panic GSF (which some of us translate to group snuggle fic) has become very much a major pairing in Bandom, especially over the last few months, and this is possibly one of the most interesting and beautiful examples of the pairing. Not only that but [livejournal.com profile] liketheroad takes the fandom trope of "sex pollen" and turns it into something amazing and inspired with this story of four boys who need to be near each other.

They get up together and walk over to Brendon, who smiles big enough to be covering for something but judging by the way he’s bouncing slightly, Spencer is willing to put that down to simple nervousness. )

04:10 pm Retreat by MC (PG)
Fandom: SWORDSPOINT
Pairing: Alec/Richard
Length: circa 2K
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] threewalls
Author Website: Master Story Index here
Why this must be read:

Given the interval between Ellen Kushner’s Swordspoint and The Privilege of the Sword, during which it is clear that the lovers Alec and Richard have separated, it’s no surprise that writers have sought to fill in the blanks. MC’s Retreat provides an elegant and unsentimental coda to Swordspoint that alludes without overt spoilers to the events of Privilege.

06:04 pm Deductive Reasoning, by Chris (PG)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski, Frannie/Welsh
Length: 1500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] the_antichris
Why this must be read: This is a wonderful little established relationship story. Chris has a way of getting inside Fraser's head, and this story has such perfectly phrased moments of Fraser-ness that I just sat there nodding in delight. It also has bizarre little case details and one of the best descriptions of Frannie that I've ever seen.

08:39 pm The End by Ladybugkay, PG
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Batman/Superman
Length: 1905
Author on LJ: ladybugkay
Website: None that I can find
Why this must be read:

Ladybugkay really makes fanfiction a lyrical, poetic art form, and this fic shows off that skill tremendously. This is a fic that will break your heart, and mend it with the same degree of gentleness. What I love most about this fic is the Clark voice. The Bruce voice is brillant, too, of course, but there is no shortage of great Bruce voices in the DCU fandom. A fabulously in character Clark voice, on the other hand, is much more rare. And in this story there is a delicious depiction of the kind of romantic that I have always imagined Clark Kent to be.

He needs more time, because he isn’t sure he has everything committed to memory, yet. There’s still missing information about the way Clark sounds the moment he falls asleep, and the way he looks at 4:15 in the morning, and exactly how much toothpaste he puts on his toothbrush.

There are things still to know, and Bruce can’t make himself do this until he knows it all.

He’ll give himself that much to hold onto, anyway.

Pairing: Peter Parker/Harry Osborn
Length: 3,000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] harriet_spy

Why this must be read: The way Harry and Peter's friendship turned sour because of Spiderman is the classic stuff of angsty slash, and this story is a perfect, bittersweet example.

11:30 pm No Common Allegiance series, by dHALL (Teen)
Fandom: NUMB3RS
Pairing: none (gen)
Length: 86,202 words total
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: dHALL at CalSci Library, dHALL at Fanfiction.net
Why this must be read:

When I love a story, I hate to have it end. 'No Common Allegiance' satisfies on all counts. When Charlie decides it's time to conquer his claustrophobia he is trapped in a subway with a group of gangbangers, starting a series of events that puts the Eppes brothers in the cross-hairs of a gang war. Hold onto your hat; it's going to be a bumpy ride. Don't miss it.

Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Length: One-Shot
Author on LJ: NA
Author Website: Below the Moon
Why this fic must be read:

Because it's one of the only times I've read second-person and it's worked.  Because it is absolutely gorgeous and painful and gut wrenching.  Because it is the only fic, to date, that can make me cry every time.

Don't think you've gotten away from me. )
