11:41 am Day sixteen by cynthia_arrow (NC-17)
Fandom: LOST
Pairing: Jack/Sawyer
Length: 10k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cynthia_arrow
Author Website: Lost fic tag.

Why this must be read:

Captivity!fic, written before S3, when we still didn't know how captivity was going to be, this dark but not sad fic captures perfectly the yearning Jack and Sawyer have for each other even if they would address it only under strong circumstances, the desperation but at the same time the strong comfort that each of them receive from the other's presence. Everything is tied in together with great dialogue and hot sex with dirty talk.
In retrospect, it's also amazing how much of the elements the author wrote became part of canon.

excerpt:
Sometimes, he imagined Jack rescuing him, and Jack was always nagging him, getting on his damn nerves like he always did, but Sawyer knew that if Jack got him out, he’d tackle the man, shut him up any way he had to, but he would be all over him, even if it made Jack violent. Hell, he’d welcome anything right now, especially if it meant he got to move and use his body and be himself again. He didn’t know what the fuck had happened to Sawyer, but this man—squinting in the darkness, holding back rage and fear so tightly that it made him tired and weak and hurt all over—was not him.

Fandom: HEROES
Pairing: Mohinder/Sylar
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cerebel
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] cerebel_fics
Why this must be read: This was a fic written for the 'smut week' at the [livejournal.com profile] mylar_fic comm - the dreamy prose works excellently given the subject matter and the smut is absolutely captivating. Hot, well-written, and more than a little disturbing: it's everything Mohinder/Sylar should be.

01:09 pm Happiness Is a Warm Gun, by Liza Paris
Fandom: NUMB3RS
Characters: Charlie, Edgerton
Length: 17,695 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Lisa Paris at Fanfiction.net
Why this must be read:

One of the signs of a good series is the quality of the supporting characters and guest stars. Numb3rs has a wealth of both and many of them are frequent subjects of fanfic. A favorite reoccurring character is Special Agent Ian Edgerton (Lou Diamond Phillips), the FBI's premier sniper and tracker. Edgerton is dangerous, cool, and a loner. He respects Don and is amused by Charlie.

In 'Happiness' Edgerton and Charlie are drawn together in the aftermath of a hostage incident in which Don is hurt. Charlie is grateful Edgerton saved Don's life; Edgerton feels unexpected responsibility for Don's injuries. Lisa draws a vivid and completely convincing portrait of this mysterious man, how he thinks, what drives him, and the unlikely and unwanted rapport he develops with Charlie.

04:52 pm Never After Midnight by SullenSiren (PG)
Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: Gen
Length: 3,082 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sullensiren
Author Website: Dream Country: IJ Writing Journal
Why this must be read: This story is a wonderfully fun, tea-through-the-nose, light-hearted romp. It combines quirky humor with sharp, pitch-perfect dialogue and a truly hilarious plot. SullenSiren's great Mal-voice, in particular, would be worth a look all by itself. But working in gremlins and tribbles, too? That's some solid bonus points for difficulty right there.

Fandom: RPF - FAKE NEWS
Pairing: None
Length: 483 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cosmic
Author Website: Fic tag.
Why this must be read:

This is another piece of classic PRT fic. It's short and simple, but that's really part of the charm. In Tourniquet Play Jon, Stephen, Anderson, and Keith go out for lunch, but these guys can't just have a nice little meal together. Oh, no! Hilarity inevitably ensues. Not enough of an incentive? Well ... there's bondage, too. That good enough?

07:15 pm A Day at the Races by ladymordecai, PG
Fandom: DC Comics
Pairing: Barbara Gordon/Ted Kord/Booster Gold
Length:  1,400
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ladymordecai
Author Website: N/A
Why this should be read:

I'll admit I am reccing this primarily because this is a threesome that should be far more popular in fandom than it is. Babs/Ted were adorable, and Ted/Booster are pretty high on the accepted fanon scale. Yet, the three are rarely combined - this story is the only Babs/Ted/Booster fic I've ever read. So it's a fantastic fic for being the definitive Babs/Ted/Booster fic. Additionally, [livejournal.com profile] ladymordecai does a fantastic job with Barbara. Barbara in her hands is incredibly human - she's every inch a kickass heroine while still having the human flaws that are uniquely her own.

It wasn’t like she hadn’t stared at Victor Stone’s phone number for hours, sometimes, fighting with herself over her identity and whether being disabled was worse than being a cyborg. Neither word had positive connotations in her society.

In the end, she was who she was.

08:50 pm Alone, by Dawning Star (PG13)
Fandom: NUMB3RS
Characters: Colby, Charlie
Length: 7,581 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Dawning Star on Fanfiction.net
Why this must be read:

In the supporting cast, Colby Granger is a favorite of many (he's darn cute), and there are a lot of stories that place him front and center. From multi-generation military family Colby looks to be an all-American straight-shooter, until (Spoiler Alert!) he is revealed to be a traitor selling secrets to the Chinese in the Season 3 finale. But is he really?

Captured by the bad guys, tortured, drugged, and unable to tell the difference between reality, dreams, and hallucinations, he waits. But even when Charlie is a fantasy, Colby can count on him to tell the truth.

Haunting and beautifully written, 'Alone' evokes Colby's disorientation and despair.

10:30 pm The Fugitive, by Zubeneschamali (T)
Fandom: NUMB3RS
Characters: Don, Charlie, the team, OFC
Length: 144,907 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Zubeneschamali on Fanfiction.net
Why this must be read:

This is the novel that motivated me to drive the van for Numb3rs. I read it twice in one week - it's that good.

'The Fugitive' was inspired by the classic TV show. Wrongly convicted of murder, Don takes a desperate opportunity to go on the run in an attempt to prove his innocence. Zueneschamali vividly captures Don's increasing desperation, paranoia, and isolation in an exciting roller-coaster ride. His team works to exonerate him at the same time they are duty-bound to recapture him.

The author has the integrity and commitment to her characters to follow the story on some unexpected paths, in spite of the fact they may be upsetting to some readers. IMHO, it only makes the story better.
