Hi, all. I'm macey_muse, I go by macey, and I'll be the one driving the giant flying robot this month~ welcome to Gundam Wing! There's a marvellous overview by ari_ here, for those of you who haven't encountered the fandom before, but I guarantee you, it is a combination of crack and epic that you won't want to miss.

This month, those will be my by-words - crack and epic. I love long, meaty fic with plot and character development, and have several seriously long fics lined up for you. I'll be sprinkling some shorter crack (and, yes, just plain porn) pieces between those leviathans, to keep your interest. We'll also take a bit of a glance at the oft-neglected girls of GW, and I won't be sticking to plain old Duo/Heero and Quatre/Trowa, either; there'll be plenty for everyone. I even have some het ^_~

Why this must be read:

I dithered a little about what to rec first, but then I thought to myself: why not jump in the deep end? As you can see from the wordcount, I wasn't kidding about the epic, and this fic is most definitely not a classic pairing.

There's just something about the way Maldoror writes. This was the first of her fics I ever read and, along with Freeport (those of you who enjoyed Freeport might be interested in knowing she's currently re-writing it, and posting to her journal), has remained on my all-time favourites list for rather a while. She doesn't pull her punches, doesn't ever let you forget that these boys were terrorists, and are still massively screwed in the head. This is a fic that burns like Wufei's concept of honour. If you read nothing else I rec this month, read this.

I'm starting out with an older story, but one I love a lot. The premise is a slash classic- Hotch and Reid will be going undercover as a gay couple to catch an Unsub. They practice a little intimacy before starting the case. I totally have a kink for inexperienced Reid, and this delivers that in spades, as well as a searing Hotch/Reid kiss.

Why this must be read:

This is the rare Chad/Ryan story that takes place after the first High School Musical movie, rather than the second. It doesn't whitewash Ryan into a paragon, it keeps Chad in character, and it has one of my recent favorite things, Ryan & Kelsi friendship. If you've been around fic in any fandom, you know how easy it is to find over-the-top angst on the flimsiest of pretexts; this story steers clear of those dangers while still allowing the characters to act like teenagers. There's plausible conflict and reasonable emotional reactions, sweet romance and funny dialogue. It's awesome.

This was the very first HSM fic I ever encountered - how lucky was I? Many of us feared it would hang in WIP limbo forever, so there was much rejoicing when paperclipbitch posted the final part. So now you, dear readers, can run off and read the story in its entirety.

Hi there! goddessdster here with your first Hot Fuzz rec. I will admit to being an unapologetic slasher (and this is one movie that begs for slashing), but I will try to be balanced in my choices for everyone.

Why this must be read:

For those who may not have picked it up while watching the movie: Nicholas and Danny are love. There were no other romantic interests (see dr_tectonic's comment in the overview for a further explanation), no cute kids, nothing to distract or sway the viewer away from their burgeoning relationship.

Bend Hard, in just over 1000 words, gives us the quintessential Nicholas/Danny story. It is touching, a little sad, and righteously funny. Also, the first Hot Fuzz story I read, easily cementing me to this fandom.

Why this must be read:

I'm going to start my recs with a good solid team fic. There are some underlying relationships in this story, but at its heart it's about the team working together, doing what they do best.

doylefan22 is one of the better known Claudia/Nick writers, but most of her stories, while having this relationship at heart, are much broader than just focusing on this particular pairing.

I've chosen to recommend this particular story because it's a well written and satisfying 'anomaly' fic, where the relationships, while important to the story, take a backseat to dealing with the fallout from an anomaly. There are creatures galore and the anomaly itself is interesting and believable, with some lovely touches that flesh out the world that these creatures come from. The characters are in character, with relationships and dialogue that feel in tune with canon, and the plot wraps up well and flows organically from the way that the characters interact with each other and the public.

And it's a lovely, long, satisfying read.

A Quiet Break in the Country

Why this must be read: Because Pros wouldn’t be Pros without Slantedlight’s talents and passion. She’s a talented, versatile writer, who can turn her hand to long and plotty, short and smutty, and just about anything and everything in-between. To pick just one of hers to rec here is nigh on impossible. If you like this then go and indulge in more. I promise you won't be disappointed.

I’ve singled out this one as a kind of introduction to all that is great in Pros: hurt/comfort Bodie and Doyle style, terrific dialogue, and an action packed slice of case life as the pair of them dodge bullets and nationalists on a mountainside in Wales.
