Fandom: Hot Fuzz Pairing: Nicholas/Danny Length: 3900 words Author on LJ: prairiestarAuthor Website: none Why this must be read: Prairiestar takes the basic 'Nicholas and Danny hook up after the events yadda yadda...' and turns it on its ear for me because Danny is...Danny is...simply fantastic in this. He reacts to what is happening like a man does, not a cartoon character, not a wannabe action hero, but a man. One who gets angry, makes inappropriate jokes, and loves his friend. I love stories that refuse to gloss over what the impact of Frank's actions might have on Danny and Nicholas, and this one - in my opinion - deals with the emotional fallout in a way that feels real. There is also an element of sweetness to this story that is entirely without fluff. It kind of punches me in the gut every time I read it. And then unicorns come out. Fandom: PROS (THE PROFESSIONALS) Pairing: Bodie/Doyle Length: 128k Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: Miriam Heddy’s Little Corner of the UniverseWhy this must be read: Because it hits my domestic kink button like a freight train, while managing to be so much more than a fluffy Curtain Fic. The lads are working together, squabbling, moving in – dating basically - for twelve long years of partnership before they wake up and smell the coffee. Or chocolates, as Miriam Heddy would have here, in her beautifully realised and very lads-like seduction scene. This takes us from Doyle’s disastrous involvement with Ann Holly to post series; to Bodie taking over the training of agents, and to Doyle being groomed for Cowley’s position. And it’s an absolute joy to sit back and watch these two alpha males lock antlers, God love 'em, and get there in the end. Banter is this writer’s forte, and I could listen to her Bodie and Doyle dissect their lives and the universe forever. The excerpt is Bodie’s priceless reaction to Doyle’s suggestion they start sharing a flat. ( an excerpt ) Fire Held High and Away

Fandom: TOY SOLDIERS Pairing: Billy/Joey, Billy/Snuffy, Ensemble Cast Length: 2000 words Author on LJ: lipsumWhy this must be read: This is a rare example of fic that contains a pairing other than Billy/Joey (although Billy/Joey is, as you can see, still an element). What's unusual about this sequence is the point of view; first-person isn't often done in this fandom, and I feel lipsum has done an admirable job of portraying Snuffy. (Six Vignettes)

Fandom: HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL Pairing: Chad/Ryan Length: 5,254 words Author on LJ: alethialiaAuthor Website: LiveJournalWhy this must be read: I grin the whole way through this fic every time I read it. The premise (that between them, Chad and Ryan have what it takes to rule East High in a benevolent, joint dictatorship) fills me with joy, and it is fleshed out by slice-of-life details of how Chad and Ryan interact with each other and their fellow students. This is fun, fun, fun, and the ending is lovely and hot. ( Excerpt )Go. Read. Love. Tell the author. Unholy Alliance

Um. Sorry about that; seem to have mislaid the first third of December there... ^.^' with no further ado~Fandom: GUNDAM WING Pairing: Une/Duo Length: About 50,000 words Author on LJ: arsenicjadeAuthor Website: Most Delicious PoisonWhy this must be read:Now, this is an unusual fic for Gundam Wing - the fandom focuses on the five pilots almost exclusively, sometimes branching out to include Zechs and Treize. There's next to nothing on the women from the show - Relena, Dorothy, Hilde, Noin, and Une, to name the most significant. By the time we first meet her, Une is Treize Kushrenada's most dedicated underling, frequently in direct opposition to the Gundam Pilots. (Technically, she's also a Gundam Pilot, pilot 11 - it's a bit convoluted.) She's also just a touch unstable - depending on the circumstances, she appears to have two entirely different personalities, the Colonel and the Lady; one's an advocate of peace, the other of war. But how did she get there? This fic takes us back to pre-series, and shows us the girl Une might have been, before Treize. It's not so much a story about becoming as it is about evolving along the way, about drawing the lines between what you will and won't do, and finding what it takes to push you over them. And about putting yourself together again, afterwards. ( excerpt )Always a Woman

Fandom: PRIMEVAL Pairing: Nick/Stephen Length: ~5,700 words Author on LJ: chelleficAuthor Website: chelle's nightstandWhy this must be read:This is a fairly recent fic, but it's a wonderful one. It's set post season 2 but is a fixit fic. Nick steps back through the anomaly, to find that the world has changed. I love the relationship between Stephen and Nick in this story - Nick so lost and Stephen so forthright and practical, coping with Nick's wild stories with a level head and clear view. And the sex is hot like whoah. ( Excerpt - beware of vague spoilers for Season 2 )Alterations

Fandom: MERLIN Pairing: No Pairing Length: 1,000 words Author on LJ: entangled_nowAuthor Website: libraryofsolWhy this must be read: I love the tone of this story, and how the sunshiny, happy mood turns into something darker, like a cloud sliding over the sun. For all Arthur's pratishness, this gives a feeling for the responsibility weighing on his shoulders, and also the yearning for things he can't and won't ask for, yet doesn't want to be refused.
