05:55 am A Bodie Carol by Ancasta (PG-13)
Fandom: PROS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: 108k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ancastar
Author Website: Ancasta’s Corner
Why this must be read: Because it’s a wonderful version of that most Christmas of tales. After falling out with his partner on Christmas Eve, Bodie goes home to wrestle with his feelings. No sooner has he fallen asleep on the sofa than he's visited by... oh you know where I’m going with this!

Ancasta weaves all the traditional elements of Scrooge, Tiny Tim, etc, into the CI5 world seamlessly. She’s a writer who excels at the details, at atmosphere, and here she layers things up beautifully. Right up until that final lightbulb goes off for our lad..

"How you doin', Bodie?" Charlie asked with an answering smile. He looked healthier than Bodie had ever seen him. Dressed in navy trousers and suit jacket with a white, open-collared shirt, he could have been heading out for a night on the town. "You look well."

"I'm fine," Bodie said. "I'm doing fine. I'd ask the same…"

Charlie nodded, his smile undimmed. "But I'm dead."

"There is that, yeah," Bodie agreed, amused by the exchange, yet saddened by the memory that accompanied it.

09:59 am Cross Your Heart and Hope by Mardia PG-13
Fandom: Chuck
Pairing: none
Length: @4000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mardia
Author Website: none that I can find
Why this must be read:Ellie is always curious about her brother's life, especially now that he is disappearing all the time and acting weird. What if she found out about his work with Sarah and Casey? About him being the Intersect? This lovely story is a five things approach to those questions, five ways Ellie finds out. It's angsty and hurty and just overall wonderful. And remember, feedback is the best Christmas gift an author can get.

10:08 am This is How it Works by Alazysod R
Fandom: Chuck
Pairing: Chuck Bartowski/Sarah Walker/John Casey
Length: 3500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] alazysod
Author Website: none that I can find
Why this must be read: Frankly, I never thought I would read a story that actually had Chuck and Sarah in anything other than the pretend relationship that they have on the show. I prefer Chuck with Casey. But this....this makes me want to believe in them, with Casey as an added bonus. Chuck goes from having a pretend girlfriend to having a real girlfriend, with a boyfriend added for fun. It's very believable and pretty darn hot too.

10:32 am Secrets by Rhienelleth (NC-17)
Title: Secrets
Fandom: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Pairing: Derek/Sarah
Rating: NC-17
Length: ~10,000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rhienelleth
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] rhienelleth
Why this must be read:

Author's Summary:After the events of the season one finale, the weight of secrets between Derek and Sarah creates tension between them.

This fic looks at the tensions between Derek and Sarah and carries it all the way to its logical and painful conclusion. The writing is sharp and tense. The results are accurate.

I can totally believe this happened. It's slightly Jossed by season 2, but the sentiments are pretty much the same.

10:47 am There Must Have Been Some Magic by Kath Tate (PG)
Title: There Must Have Been Some Magic
Fandom: Terminator / Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Pairing: Kyle/Sarah
Rating: PG
Length: short
Author on LJ: Kath Tate
Author Website: Three Insomniacs
Why this must be read:

This is probably more Terminator AU than T:SCC, but when you have timelines like this fandom has... well, this is one way that it could have worked out, in one timeline.

I present to you, the only Christmas Terminator story I've read. But, I would have recced it anyway. It's beautifully written and it provides a glimpse into just what Sarah gave up to become the woman she became. Even more, this fic gives us a glimpse of Kyle Reese, who is the Father of All Destiny as much as Sarah is it's mother.

This will be my last rec before Christmas, but I'll be back with at least a few more next week! Happy Holidays!

11:32 am Three Tasks by syllic (PG-13)
Fandom: MERLIN
Pairing: Merlin/Various, Merlin/Arthur
Length: Novella
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] syllic
Author Website: None
Why this must be read: This is one of those stories with a premise of pure crack, which you just choose to go along with because the author works it like you wouldn't believe! You see, one of Arthur's roles as Crown Prince is to arbitrate courting disputes in Camelot, and in [livejournal.com profile] syllic's talented hands, that equals the most delightful confection of tests, derring-do and true love that you could ever hope for.

Fandom: PRIMEVAL
Pairing: Helen/Nick
Length: one shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] steamshovelmama
Author Website: author's page on The ARC
Why this must be read:

Helen Cutter is an incredibly interesting individual - driven and amoral, she provides a worthy and Machiavellian protagonist for our erstwhile heroes. Divide and conquer seems to be her motto, and it often seems as though she considers the people around her to be rather interesting labrats. And Helen does possess a more than healthy scientific curiosity.

This story is set pre-series, in the early stages of Nick and Helen's relationship, before they were married. It provides an interesting insight into the dynamics of their relationship, one that isn't just about Helen pulling the wool over Nick's eyes but one in which they're both involved in playing the game, albeit Helen still being the more manipulative of the two. I like it because it doesn't paint Nick as an innocent victim of Helen's wiles, but someone who respects her and is more or less respected in return, and someone Helen might actually consider a challenge.
