12:01 am Happy New Year by Rae Evans (NC-17)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Blair/Jim
Length: 12K
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: http://www.thestoryfall.com/index.html

Why this must be read:    Another New Year celebration. Another set of rituals for a delighted Blair to explain – this time Scottish. Anyone who’s seen the show knows who wears the pants in this relationship. This story just confirms it. Literally.

May your New Year be as pleasant as theirs.  Cheers.

10:52 am The Gift of a Brother by MinnieK (PG-13)
Hallo, my name is Weronika and I will be sharing with you some of my favorite stories this month. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. I wish you all a happy New Year!

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: none
Length: one-shot
Author on LJ: not known
Author Website: HERE
Why this must be read:

It's a story which shows why Hutch does not like Christmas and what it takes to change his mind. It's a wonderful story about loss, love and hope. It must be read because with the last word of the story the world is not the same anymore.

"Hey, Starsk," Hutch said, pausing in the bathroom doorway, "do you think your mother would adopt an older child? A tall, blond one with his own paycheck?"

"Depends." Starsky yawned and started going through Hutch's dresser drawers, digging out his extra clothes. "I can talk Ma into anything, if it's worth my while. But if you're gonna be my brother, you have to sign a blood oath stating that I get to be the boss and you have to do what I say or I get to knock you around."

"Hey!" Hutch called back through the bathroom door. "Why do you get to be the boss? And who said you could knock me around?"

"I did, 'cause I'm older than you," Starsky replied, apparently standing right outside the bathroom door. "Big brothers always get to be the boss. We get to knock everyone around. Just ask Nicky."

"Come on, Starsky," Hutch protested. "You're not that much older. Just a few months. Besides, I'm taller than you are."

"Sorry," Starsky answered solemnly. "It's a hard and fast rule. Can't be changed. You're pegged for a little brother in this relationship."

05:09 pm But I Think I'll Miss This One This Year by Freesnowcone (PG for language)
Hi all!  Me again, driving the Mag 7 van again this month!  And I have a wonderful first rec, just in time - my time, anyway - for the end of the year: a Christmas story that is wicked good, just the thing for the holiday - and post holiday - recovery!

FANDOM: MAGNIFICENT 7
PAIRING: None, gen
LENGTH:  about 3600 words
AUTHOR ON LJ:
[livejournal.com profile] freesnowcone
WHY THIS MUST BE READ:

Because it's awesome.  I don't know if this is her first story but it's wonderful.  The characters are as they should be, the angst balanced perfectly with humor.  While I am selflishly rec-cing this in hopes that we can encourage her to write much much more, if she writes nothing else, this is the piece to stop with as well.  It's brilliantly wickedly funny with all the emotions the holiday brings out in family and friends.  It's set inthe ATF universe and again - funny.  Really.

Go, read, happy new year!

05:25 pm Invest a Dime by Zeke Black (PG for language and implications)
Two in one day, trying to get the year off right, but also - I was fortunate to have several new stories posted this past month!

Fandom: The Magnificent Seven
Pairing: Chris/Ezra
Length: about 14,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] zekiel
Author's website:  http://zekeblack.slashcity.org/
Why this must be read:
Zeke Black is one of the best stylists in this fandom.  Her style is fluid and easy and wonderfully subtle - not too much so, just enough.  She does a wonderful job of showing the Chris/Ezra attraction, but she doesn't shirk on the other characters in the process.  Her Old West fiction is true to the period and she loves her research, which shows - but not so much as to burden the story.

That blend of detail and characterization works perfectly in her AU stories as well. This story is a sequel to "Toss the Dice" which is the founding story to her Cross-Border Enforcement Agency universe, where Chris runs a team and Ezra is not a part of it - but Ezra is a part of Chris' personal life.  It's a good concept and she does a great job with it, and "Invest a Dime" is a perfect sequel, set about nine months after the beginning of "Toss the Dice".

And selfishly - for someone who writes C/E, she has one of the best interpretations of Vin of any Mag7 writer out there.  If I weren't already a Vin-o-phile, reading her interpretation of him would get me there.  Mostly, I think, it's because she doesn't ignore the friendship between Chris and Vin, acknowledging that they're close - which is a big part of the basis and intensity of this story.  She does the same with Buck, creating the strong relationships that was canon in the series, recreating them beautifully in these stories and her others.

An excerpt - and the mystery )

09:03 pm The Short Side of Isosceles by suede (PG)
Fandom: LOTRIPS
Pairing: Dom/Billy, implied Dom/Elijah, implied Orlando/OMC
Length: one-shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] suede_scripture
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] suede_scripture
Why this must be read: This is a remix of a fic that has been around for a while... I'm sure it's been recced here before, but if it hasn't then I'll be revisiting it for a future rec. Suede's got flawless style and I love how much love she has for these boys.

Hi, call me Turtle. I will be driving for Life on Mars this month. I love stories featuring the Test Card Girl and other ways in which Sam Tyler is just a bit mad. My first time here, so I will try to keep things basic and to-the-point in my recs, and get a few out every week. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Fandom: LIFE ON MARS
Pairing: gen
Length: word count - 770
Author on LJ:fawsley
Author Website: fawsley at Collators Den
Why this must be read: Because it is one of the very best featuring the creepy little girl in red, showing all the ways in which she is both Sam's best friend and worst nightmare.
