09:09 am Bloodstained Illusions by P.L. Nunn NC-17
Fandom: Weiss Kreuz
Paring: Yohji x Aya
Length: 48K
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] plnunn
Author Website: Bishonenworks

P.L. Nunn writes intricately woven plots with plenty of sex and action. This story is the third of six in an arc and delivers on all accounts. Weiss has left Kritiker and moved on to parts unknown, or so they believe. But Aya's recovery from Schuldig and Farfie's tender loving care leave Yohji with no choice but seek help from Kritker once again. This story can be read on it's own as it has a wonderfully twisty plot with a very believable original male character as the villain but reading the whole series is time well spent.

10:14 am Worlds of Smoke and Song by doyle_sb4 (G)
Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: None, gen (Rose)
Length: approx 1,110
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] doyle_sb4
Author Website: Doctor Who fic in memories (it seems slightly out of date, though)
Why this must be read:

This is a Doomsday AU where it's the Doctor who falls into the void, not Rose. It's for everyone who loves Rose but is sick of Doomsday fix-its where someone rips a hole in the universe to put them back together. In this story, there's no magic door in time's fabric or fix-it; it's Rose being herself, moving on and living a life of her own, even if it hurts at first.

doyle_sb4 has a writing style that is beautifully haunting and fluid, keeps you reading until the last word, and sticks with you long afterwards. You'll love it, I promise.

10:35 am I Will Remember by Brit (G)
Hello, all! I'm back for what I think is my third go at the wheel of this nutty van. (I'm seriously thinking of taking it over to Merle's and having him paint it candy-apple red with a white stripe.) I'm sorry I'm later than planned - John Lennon had it right about life happening when you're busy making those plans.

Last month [livejournal.com profile] nickygabriel shared a lovely bunch of Gen stories for you all. I'm a slasher by nature but I enjoy a good gen story, too.

And I love stories about the older boys - to think that they're still together in some capacity. This is one of the charms of a thirty-year-old fandom - the characters can age easily along with their authors/readers/fans.

With that, I offer today's rec.

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky and Hutch
Length: 50k
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: http://www.geocities.com/britwrit1/brit_stories/index.html
Why this must be read:

This is a first person account of a waitress and her interactions with "Dave" and "Ken". It's that lovely outsider's perception that makes this story hit home. And it's not a Mary Sue - she's just the one telling the story of an older and forgetful Hutch and his determined partner. It's bittersweet and lovely, too.

Fandom: TORCHWOOD
Pairing: Gen
Length: One-shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller
Why this must be read: Imagine, if you will, a raw recruit to Torchwood, stood purposefully in front of a large whiteboard in a corner of the Hub.

"Memorize them," Ianto tells him, claps him on the shoulder, and wanders off.

This is a thing of beauty and captures the dynamic of the team perfectly. Be sure to also check out the graphical version of this, with handwriting and layout. Spoilers through "Exit Wounds" (2.13).

Why this must be read: Once, when I was about 10 years old, I had a giant chocolate chocolate-chip muffin. One of those muffins bigger than an adult man's fist, flowing its sugary goodness over the sides of its paper wrapper. I was going to eat it while watching television, so I took a folding chair out to serve as a "table" for the muffin. I put the muffin down on the chair, turned to pick up the remote, ... and by the time I turned back, it was gone, wrapper and all. To the side of my chair was my dog, his jaw moving up and down at a rapid rate. About thirty minutes later, he proceeded to run around the house in circles for an hour.
The moral of this story is, when you own a pet, you have to be careful where you leave sugary snacks. This lesson applies doubly if your pet is a pterodactyl.

Why this must be read: Of the 56,451 fanfics out there about Jack returning to the Hub post-"Last of the Time Lords," this one is my favorite. Jack comes home to find the place deserted. I guess his team had gone fishing. Except--the Hub is not completely empty. There is a flapping sound...

Hi!
I am driving the crack-van for Highlander again, and I hope you enjoy what I have to recommend this month.

Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: Duncan/Methos
Length: 16700
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hafital
Author Website: Hafital on HLFiction.net
Fanfiction Paradise
Why this must be read: Hafital has been recced here before, and for very good reason. Her writing is rich with detail and emotional nuance. her understanding and love of the characters and world of Highlander shine through everything she writes. This piece is set primarily in Antartica, and is as beautiful and stark as that continent, but not at all cold. One of the highlights of the 2008 [livejournal.com profile] hlh_shortcuts fic exchange.

05:08 pm Love and Marriage by solvent90 (PG)
Fandom: JANE AUSTEN (MANSFIELD PARK)
Pairing: Fanny Price/Henry Crawford with a side of Mary Crawford/Edmund Bertram
Length: 3200 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] solvent90
Author Website: solvent90's other stories at yuletide, and solvent90's fic tag.
Why this must be read:

This is an excellent, well written story, where the silences are almost as important as the things said. A powerful look at what may have been, it's not a happy story, but a necessary one. It's honest to a fault, and gives a new perspective on the canon characters. Definitively a different look at the Fanny accepts Henry scenario. It has a very good narrative voice, which makes for a quick, pleasant read.

Excerpt:

"I am afraid your cousin's is not quite a marriage of true minds, my dear," he said.
