12:06 am But What Are Your Thoughts on Yaoi? by Chash (R)
Fandom: SUPERNATURAL/BONES
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Length: Appx 1,800 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] chash
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] with_a_kay
Why this must be read: [livejournal.com profile] chash has Bones' voice down so completely you can actually hear it. And this is no easy feat; there's a reason that you don't often see Bones fanfic. Beyond that, she gets Bones and Booth right, their banter is perfect and well-timed and you can't help but feel like you're listen to an episode. Also, it has what may be one of the single best lines in any fic ever:

"No. Having a therapist on our double date with gay brothers would not make it better."

Title: If It Could Be Held
Pairing: Tony Stark/Patrick Jane
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] cerebel
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] cerebel_fics
Why this must be read:

For reasons that are likely obvious, movie!Tony gets crossed over a lot, and he gets paired up mostly with the smartest characters from other fandoms. Sam Carter, Kaylee Frye, Bruce Wayne, Gregory House. The engineers, a lot of the time, but also the ones with wicked wit and charm, the ones that are a match for Tony in the way that he likes. In this case, Tony's verbal poker partner is Patrick Jane, who spends a lot of time on his own show being tortured, too smart for his own good, and driving pretty girls crazy. Sound familiar? The author nails what would be fun about this matchup, and then some.

Stark flicks an eyebrow. “What do you consult on, Mr. Jane?”

So Stark did remember his name, from the introductions earlier. “This and that,” says Jane. “Does your nice house make you feel guilty?”

“No,” says Stark. “Do people hold it against you that you’re so handsome?”

“No,” returns Jane. “Do people hold it against you that you sold weapons to terrorists for most of your adult life?”

01:06 pm Sweet Sorrow by Neutral Alienist (K)
Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: Implied Doctor/Nyssa and Doctor/Turlough
Length: One-shot
Warnings: Spoilers for most of the Fifth Doctor era
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] neutralalienist
Author Website: Master list of fanfic
Why this must be read:

Peri stumbles across the Doctor's bedroom and finds a box of letters she probably should not read, but as the reader we're glad she did, because they reveal so much about what the Fifth Doctor thinks and feels about his companions, from Adric to Turlough and everyone in between. Four letters, all written in an impeccable Five!voice, that are all (as the title implies) both sweet and sorrowful. If you wish the Fifth Doctor had a chance to properly say goodbye to his companions, this certainly might make it better.

Pairing: Merlin/Arthur
Length: 46,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock
Author Website: Glitterati
Why this must be read: Fantastic AU wherein Arthur is the modern day Prince of Wales, and Merlin is a medical student. Once they meet, they must deal with the tabloid press, paparazzi, scandal and King Uther. And it comes complete with graphic renditions of newspaper articles, leaked text messages, web sites and a gorgeous vid trailer. It's an entire package of glee!

06:06 pm Siren's Song by Tobywolf13 (pg-13)
Fandom: SMALLVILLE
Pairing: Chloe Sullivan/Clark Kent (though it's really more gen than anything)
Length: ~10,000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tobywolf13
Author Website: Effulgent and Smoking Cool
Why this must be read:

This is a recently posted story that was written for the Valentine's Day Round of [livejournal.com profile] secret_chlark. [livejournal.com profile] tobywolf13 had the prompts of Chloe as Lori Lemaris, an AU setting, and an appearance by the Martin Manhunter. Not exactly the easiest prompts, but the story she came up with is awesome. Despite being an AU, the characters are still very much themselves. The plot is interesting, and incorporates elements from the current season of the show (a feat I think). The story is also full of [livejournal.com profile] tobywolf's dialogue. She does some of the best dialogue: there's that mixture of pop culture and turn of phrases that's very customary of the show. All in all it's an excellent story and I highly recommend it.

Why this must be read:

Because it's hilarious. Fraser would disagree but ... it is.

"Hold on." I edge around until I'm standing between him and the kitchen. "The mob. You got the mob after you?"

He perks up like he forgot I was there. "Not the mob in the definitive sense, no. I was simply beset by a mob in the more general sense, an unspecified group carrying no association with..."
