Hi! I'm Veronica (aka [livejournal.com profile] 13cellardoors) and I'll be driving the Heroes van for the month of March! I've been excited about this for months now, planning and assembling lists and generally obsessing. Hopefully my recs will do Heroes fic justice. I have a special interest in gen, character studies, angst/drama, Claire, Elle, Peter, Nathan, Adam, and crack (fic, not drug). I also have a serious weakness for Peter/Claire (Claire/Everyone, really), so that might show up at some point ...

Fandom: HEROES
Characters: Lyle and various Bennets
Length: ~6900 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] smercy
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] arenotvalid
Why this must be read: Lyle gets very little screentime and possibly even less fic time. So I love when a writer can take a minor character and really flesh them out, make them real and tangible to the reader. "What Do You Go Home To?" is set during season two as Lyle deals with his mother's memory problems and his sister's weirdness and generally just being ignored. It's very realistic and so very heartbreaking as Lyle makes sacrifices in order to hold his family together.

Howdy! My name is [livejournal.com profile] georgiesmith and I'll be driving the powder blue Dodge van this month for The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. This is my first time behind the wheel and I've got a wide variety of stories that I plan on sharing with you all.

I know most of us don't take the time to drop our favorite writers a note of appreciation for their work, so this is my way of saying thank you to all of the storytellers who have kept me up long past my bedtime with terrific tales of derring-do and sometimes, um, hot sex.

THE MAN FROM UNCLE:
Pairing: GEN but it's mostly Illya's story (with a dash of Napoleon)
Length: 3789 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] st_crispins
Author Website: St. Crispin's Day Society
Why this must be read: In this story written for the [livejournal.com profile] muncle  Down the Chimney exchange, st_crispins deftly weaves historical events into an intense fictional Cold War tale. Her prose evokes the feeling of Cambridge in the cold winter of 1962 and I have little doubt that you'll find yourself reaching for a hot cup of tea to warm your hands whilst you read it. When I read this story, which would have fit perfectly in the first season of the show, I can hear David McCallum narrating it; st_crispins interpretation of Illya Kuryakin is that spot on. Having an partiality for our boys as Cold Warriors, this story hits all the right notes for me.

04:02 pm "Five Fantasies Sylar Pretends He's Never Had" by ipsilonx (R)
Fandom: HEROES
Pairing: Sylar/Various
Length: ~2200 words
Warnings: implied noncon
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ipsilonx
Author Website: entries tagged "fic"
Why this must be read: Sylar is a difficult character to write well, especially when it comes to relationships. [livejournal.com profile] ipsilonx manages this quite well, balancing Sylar's psychotic serial-killer instincts with a desire for companionship of some kind (just not the way we would usually expect it). The writer details five different women - Maya, Eden, Elle, Claire, and his mother - while making each story unique, unsettling, and revealing in some way. Possibly the most impressive quality of this story is that each story isn't basically the same, only with names changed; rather, each story details a completely different kind of relationship, a different dynamic and desire.

06:10 pm The Tortallan Delegation's Visit to Hamrkeng, Scanra (G)
Fandom: TAMORA PIERCE (TORTALL)
Pairing: Kel, Buri, Owen, Lord Wyldon
Length: ≈2,600
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] team_fen
Author Website: Author Tag
Why this must be read:

Because it's multi-media fic. About Scanra. This story takes a country we know practically nothing about in canon and makes it a real, living, breathing place.

She takes Our Heroes and places them in an outsider-POV, and she does it well - this fic is fairly new, and it quickly became one of my favorites ever in this fandom.

06:24 pm Team House PWP by Meryn [NC-17]
Fandom: TOUR OF DUTY
Pairing: Myron Goldman/Zeke Anderson
Author on LJ: unknown
Author website: Notes From the Underground
Why this must be read:

One of the reasons we love Myron is his sarcasm, temper, and famous (sexy) Goldman rants. He does shoot a dartboard in one episode (it's a long, very amusing story). One of the reasons I love Myron/Zeke is the verbal repartee. Zeke is an enabler and in canon, you can see him amping up Myron in many of Myron's snits. This story is a good example of how that verbal warfare between these soldiers and friends is a form of foreplay.
