05:36 pm Requiem Aeternam by Albumsontheside (T)
Hi, my name is pronker and I'm delighted to drive the crack_van once more. This time the attention is given to a whole covey of new authors in this fandom, cropping up like wildflowers in a springtime field. For the first one, [livejournal.com profile] albumsontheside has written an Anakin Skywalker who is on the cusp of his final transformation into Darth Vader. He completes his change in this short yet worthwhile addition to the Order 66 oeuvre. Marching through the Temple's labyrinth of marble halls, Vader comes across one who had him as Master, who has fought beside him and been guided by him on the Jedi path. It's not her fault that he has veered away. [livejournal.com profile] albumsontheside shows a fierce, bright talent for angst and has taken some comedy steps, also. Check out her stories, a remarkable output in well under one year. Tagged OT as well as PT due to the pivotal character of Vader; this may be the moment when the switch was made!

Why this must be read: After the end of TMR, Jonathan reflects on his life as a total loser, especially in light of the amazing lives of his family: Right. She's a reincarnated princess and I'm a warrior for God. And your son leads the way to Ahm Shere. Three sides of the pyramid. Considering how pyramids have four sides, Jonathan goes to Ardeth to find out what he meant, and what his destiny might be. The second story deals with the inevitable occurrence of Jonathan screwing up his said destiny with disastrous personal results, and how the gang manages to save the day yet again and Jonathan redeems himself. This time, the plot device is the diamond of Ahm Shere that Jonathan grabbed off the top of the pyramid. I like how the author fleshes out Ardeth and Jonathan, letting us into their minds and giving them interesting stories. A good adventure tale, with much manly angst.

The heavy diamond gave him something to focus on. Knowing he was being a coward, he dropped his head and stared at the gem. "I wanted to ask you something."

Ardeth said nothing to this.

"You said--" He gripped the diamond tightly and took a deep breath. "You said Rick was a Med-jai. Evy is a reincarnated princess of Egypt. Alex is the chosen one." He forced himself to look up at Ardeth, although it was the hardest thing he had ever done; it felt like there was a weight the size of that diamond on the back of his neck, wanting to bow down his head. "So tell me. What am I supposed to do?"

Ardeth looked nonplussed. "You're asking me?"

Jonathan leaned in, the cold edge of the diamond digging into his stomach. "You told them their destinies. Now tell me mine. I want to be the fourth side of the pyramid. Tell me my task."

Hello. Here my first recommendation for The Mighty Boosh. Enjoy!

Fandom: THE MIGHTY BOOSH
Pairing: Howard Moon/Vince Noir
Length: one-shot approx 2000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] amy_wolf

Why this fic must be read...
This is a lovingly constructed fiction that sticks to canon, and like the episodes it follows, has the same bitter-sweet tone. The humour runs very close to that in the programme, so much so that it could almost be an episode. It beautifully charts the Howard/Vince relationship as it changes over time (i.e. the three television series). A favourite of mine.

10:33 pm In Search of a Proper Ball and Chain by [livejournal.com profile] caia_comica (R)
Hi, all! [livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel here, and I'll be bringing you Marvel Universe recs for the month of April. I'm not sure if I'll have a theme of any kind, but I'm going to endeavor to rec a variety of fics about a variety of characters in the Marvel comicsverse, including some lesser-known characters. So, as part of that effort, I'm going to kick off the month with a Dum Dum Dugan rec.

Fandom: MARVEL COMICS
Pairing: Dum Dum Dugan/Nick Fury, Dum Dum Dugan/Mrs. Dugan
Length: 500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] caia_comica
Author Website: Caia's LJ fic tag
Why this must be read:

"Adorable" is not a word one usually associates with someone who calls himself a Howling Commando, but Dum Dum Dugan is the exception to the rule. The big, unassuming, devoted redhead with the fedora and the moustache is one of the most underrated characters in Marvel Comics, and [livejournal.com profile] caia_comica captures him beautifully here, in impressively few words. Every detail feels just right, and the sparkling life she gives to Nick Fury and Dum Dum's ex-wife in even fewer words only adds to the story's appeal.

In case I haven't convinced you yet, here's a sample sentence:

Dum Dum'd almost given up on finding anyone who could affect him the way his wife could when he found someone even better. Sergeant Fury was more man than he'd ever met, and considering the *women* he knew, that was a helluva lot of man.

Perfect Dum Dum Dugan fic. Check it out.
