Fandom: FIREFLY Pairing: Inara/Kaylee Length: 1153 words Author on LJ: ijemanjaAuthor Website: just her LJ Why this must be read: This story has a rich, delicious vein of sweetness running through it that is guaranteed to make me smile every time. The adorable Kaylee babble alone would be worth the trip, but the imagery is also vivid, novel, and effective. On top of that, it incorporates some fine Kaylee-voice and lovely snippets of her backstory and character with an interesting back-and-forth pacing. Right at Her Fingertips

Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski/Elaine Besbriss Rating: NC-17 Length: 4600 words Author: brigantine1Why this must be read: I'd never considered this pairing before, but it makes perfect sense in this story (you know, I accidentally wrote "perfect sex" first, which is kind of an accurate Freudian slip *g*). Fraser and Kowalski are an established couple in this story, and Elaine is a fellow cop and friend of theirs. I love the Elaine POV in this, and the relationship that she has with Fraser and Ray. The sex is hot like burning, and what's more, it has a wonderful sense of companionship and playfulness. Eat Dessert First

Hello! I'm Kary and I'm going to be the driver for this month's fantastic voyage in the crackvan. Hop on board and hold on tight! I'm going to start with the story that made me fall back in love with popslash. See, once upon a time I followed popslash and then I went to college and thought I didn't have time for it anymore and then I graduated and tooled about and then I got bored one day and went in search of fic and THEN I read this and there's been no turning back around. But enough about me, on to the fic! Fandom: POPSLASH Pairing: JC/Justin Length: ~8,400 Author on LJ: topaz119Author Website: t_fic Fic Journal Why this must be read: This fic is the best possible form of crack, genderswap mpreg. Topaz manages to throw these guys into a crazy scenario and not have it feel like insanity. What I love most about this fic is the way Topaz writes Justin. She strikes up a great balance that makes Justin feel realistic without having a lot of the characteristics of the "typical" Justin, namely the attitude and arrogance. Of course it also should be mentioned that this fic is pure genius and just fills me with complete joy. It's JC being so very JC and rolling with it and Justin being sweet and caring and wonderful. Fandom: MERLIN Pairing: Arthur/Merlin/Lancelot Length: 1, 390 Author on LJ: ifyouweremine Author Website: merlin fic tag Why this must be read:OH SO VERY DIRTY. This is pretty much the dirtiest fic I've read in Merlin fandom and it is so lovely (in a filthy porn kind of way). It is pretty light on the plot but there is some lovely world-building behind the dirty dirty smut. No excerpt because it is so short but I highly recommend you head over and read it. (Don't forget to check out the warnings in the fic header as I can imagine this isn't everybody's cup of tea.) Fuck Truck Episode 32: Merlin

Fandom: MARVEL COMICS Pairing: Wolverine, gen; background Scott/Emma Length: 690 words Author on LJ: hotelmontanaAuthor Website: Hotel Montana's JournalWhy this must be read: I wanted to recommend another Wolverine story before moving on to other characters, and this is one of my favorites. hotelmontana is a master of this kind of quiet, introspective storytelling: a deceptively simple story that sneaks up on you and breaks your heart. This is a couple of years old, in terms of Marvel canon, but things haven't changed that much for Logan -- which is largely the point. He's still the guy who is seemingly part of every team and yet, in this fic, we see him as someone becoming slowly detached from the world around him. Indulging my shameless character bias (which will become increasingly evident with the next few recs), this is my favorite passage: Logan knew Jean was gone. That wasn’t something he ever forgot. But when Scott smiled at the Emma, Logan felt the loss just a little bit harder, even though he’d let go of Jean long ago. He’d pushed her out of the nest she’d made of his feelings for her, pushed her out and hoped she’d fly. She had, in a way, for just a moment; and then she was gone again. So gone that he couldn’t imagine how she’d get back to them this time. Gone for good.
Maybe that was for the best, all things considered.Go read the whole thing here: Cyrus Jones Lived Forever

Hi, I'm snycock, and I'm going to be driving the van for The Sentinel this month. I'm usually an inveterate slash reader, but there's been a call recently in the fandom to rec more gen stories, and I find that quite a few of my favorites fit that bill. I'm sure I'll be reccing some slash before the month is out, however. Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: none, gen Length: 258 kb Author on LJ: lkyAuthor Website: Tales by LKYWhy this must be read:This was the first TS story I ever read, I think, and it completely sucked me into the fandom. LKY's characterization of Jim and Blair is just perfect, and the friendship between them is lovely - warm and tender and caring without being too mushy or parental. There's an engrossing case (even though the boys are supposed to be on vacation, recuperating!), Blair using his brain, Jim using his hands, and a nice healthy dose of H/C. All in all a great read and one of my all-time favorites. Beach House
