Spike and Illyria are the sole survivors of the battle against The Circle of The Black Thorn. Half in despair, mourning Angel, Spike isn't ready for the appearance of a drastically altered Xander in Los Angeles. Hot smut, brilliant characterization, and glimmer of hope make this a must read. Harris was a mess, but he was a succulent, compelling, gorgeous mess.

Fandom: MERLIN Pairing: Merlin/Arthur (only a smidge slashier than canon really; nothing explicit) Length: ~5841 words Author on LJ: casspeachAuthor Website: Casspeach.comWhy this must be read: There's something about fierce loyalty and protectiveness that does it for me (and a lot of other people) every time. So, I'm going to be recommending a handful of stories that feature Protective!Arthur, who invariably becomes Possessive!Arthur, which often leads to Arthur getting a clue about his real feelings towards his manservant, and more often than not ends up with Arthur challenging somebody with a sword over Merlin. (No subtext in this fandom. Not at all.) Also, this is a fandom with a MANSERVANT. And there was a Knee-Walking Challenge. "Do you know how to walk on your knees, Merlin?" is a canonical line from Episode 1. There can really be nothing bad from the combination of these things. Go forth and read. ( Merlin is silent, barely flinching even though it has to hurt. Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: Blair/Jim Length: 2500 words Author on LJ: audraroseAuthor Website: fic master list at her LJ Why this must be read: Because it’s a lovely, light piece guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Audra Rose is more well-known for her darker Sentinel fic, such as the superb “Summer Sea” trilogy and “Sum of the Parts”. But she can do comedy with the best of them, as demonstrated in this short story written for last year’s ![[info]](https://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/community.gif) ts_ficathons . It starts with a friend leaving a baggie of unknown substance on Blair's desk for safe-keeping. Blair is not at all assured by the statement that “It's not illegal! In most countries... just don't smoke it, okay? …. Or open it. Or... travel to the Phillipines.” Ah but it’s too late; the baggie’s been opened and, like Pandora’s box, the damage is done. Blair is worried that he’ll be arrested, but the consequences are much more dire. You’ll have to read the story to find out what happens to our favorite observer.

He's middle-aged. And Jennifer is really kind of not. As well as a tension-filled mission, this story has Rodney slowly realising the different paths his life could take, and which one he wants most.
