Today is Sentinel Day at the Moonridge animal shelter! \O/ Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: Blair/Jim Length: 224K Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: Romslinger at 852 prospect Why this must be read: Blair….animals…Jim. What’s not to like? In honor of Garett Maggart (Blair) and his love for the Moonridge animals, I’m recommending this story of Blair as a veterinarian. Yeah, this is an AU. After Naomi is murdered (before the story begins) Blair relocates under the Witness Protection Program and drops his beloved anthro studies to become a vet. “Jacob Sanborn” is much respected in the little town and is contemplating marriage to a local woman. Enter Jim Ellison, former cop and now a PI. His current job? Find Blair Sanburg. The client? Blair’s uncle “Lew”, who wants to see his beloved but estranged nephew before he dies. Oh Jim! Can we say dupe? Romslinger keeps us entertained throughout. She fills this AU world with details – the ups and downs of living in a small town, what a vet would face day to day, and the fears/stress of a WPP refugee trying to make a life while maintaining a lie. There are echoes of canon peppered throughout that devotees of the show will find amusing . One last MR connection – Romslinger wrote this as a result of a Moonridge auction bid. I love this charity – it just brings out the best in the fandom. Enjoy (and don’t forget to give feedback if you do)! All Critters Great and Small

Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: RV/SK but mostly Gen, post Call of the Wild Length: substantial short-story Author on LJ: salieriAuthor Website: Outside the BoxWhy this must be read: Because what happened to Ray Vecchio after Las Vegas is an open question, and this answer is enthralling, and enlarges the world of both Rays and Fraser in a particularly interesting way. Excerpt: It was because of Langoustini that Ray learned about the panic bag. He should've got that little bit of wisdom from the Feds, but as it turned out, they were less interested in Ray's timely escape than the mob was in Langoustini's. Vince Defecendis—head of Langoustini's security, 6'5" in bare feet and the approximate weight of a king-cab fully loaded with lumberjacks—brought him the canvas gym bag and told him what to put in it. First, a change of clothes—cheap, but not shabby, and as uninteresting as possible, he said. Think travelling office furniture salesman on the leg home. Then, a .22 because the rounds rattle around inside a body and make less mess. Discreet, like, for when you have to deal with obstacles in small spaces. A credit card in someone else's name, because you can buy a plane ticket with cash, but only if you want the chick at the counter to look up at your face to see what kind of guy carries that much green in a polyester suit. And a passport, also in someone else's name, someone everybody could know and nobody really does. And not too 'ethnic,' Vince said, making rabbit-ear quotation marks in the air with fingers the size of hoagies. Think mayonnaise, Vince said. Think the wallpaper at a two-star hotel. Think that guy in the departure lounge who's normal enough to sit next to and too boring to talk to. Solstice

Here’s a romance, for anyone who needs something lighter after Pits. Fandom: DANNY PHANTOM Pairing: Danny/Sam Length: 98,000 words Author on LJ: n/a Author Website: Fanfiction.net, Sadness-Coloured SandglassWhy this must be read: This fic takes one of the logical implications of Danny’s half-ghost status—that he won’t ever age—and places it in an AU where the Fentons were active in the 1960s. Sam Manson is sent to her grandma’s house to recover from mono and “shape up”, and she ends up making friends (and then more) with the ghost in the attic. It’s is a believable romance, but there’s still action, family reunions (good and bad), and unexpected twists. Estrelas

Fandom: POPSLASH Pairing: Lance/Chris Author on LJ: ink_like_bloodWhy this must be read:A very brief fic (not, by my lights, an actual drabble, though) about Europe, where Chris torments Lance relentlessly with snow. Lance takes an elegant and entirely satisfactory revenge. ( Read more... )Snow Drabble

Fandom: LIFE ON MARS - UK Pairing: gen!omg! Length: 3k~ words Author on LJ: dakfinvAuthor Website: Dak's fic masterlist on LJWhy this must be read:*blinks* Wait, what? I get to rec this? Really? ME?????? Because I am shocked that this has not been recced here before. *rifles through crack_van tags* NO really, I can't believe this. YAY!!! I get to rec this! So, okay, it is gen, it is sweet, it is heartwarming, it is NOT kid!fic. Rather, it is lamb!fic, which needs to be a whole new fandom genre as far as I'm concerned. (Get on that, people. Thank you.) Anyway, Sam gets a lamb. Rather, Sam has one dumped on his doorstep, and wacky antics ensue. Now LoM is not a fandom much given to wacky antics that are NOT crack!fic, but this isn't, it reads like it could have been an actual episode. With sheep. I know, I'm not selling this well, but Dak, beloved of LoM fandom for her heartbreaking stories that will drown you in angst, peppers this tale with humor and sweetness, in addition to her fantastic character-driven dialogue. I make no secret of the fact that this is one of my favorite (and most re-read) stories in LoM, which says a lot because I normally avoid "gen". This is worth it, though, believe you me! *loves on fic* Sam and the Sheep~
