Hello all! My name's Auto and this month I'll be driving the van for a small but wonderfully awesome fandom. If you've never read the book or seen the movie, don't worry! Neither had I when I entered the fandom, and I've still only seen bits of the movie. Most (if not all) of my recs are going to be femslash between the two main characters, Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs, in part because that's what dominates the fandom and in part because I love a strong female character and with Miranda and Andy I get two of 'em with a side of power dynamics.

Why this must be read:

This is the fic that brought me into the fandom. For anyone who reads Logan/Rogue for X-Men, victoria p. is probably a familiar name. Her fics always have spot of characterization and although I wouldn't call the writing sparse, it's without padding so you know that every detail is there for a reason.

Still Life With Lipstick focuses on Andy after the movie. A more mature, independent Andy who still finds herself inexplicably drawn to Miranda. But what I really love about this fic is the look at Miranda. She's the one making the first move and leaving herself vulnerable, while at the same time keeping the cold, unapproachable front that's her constant companion.

Why this must be read:

levitatethis is a goddess of the written word, but most especially of characterization. This fic is a look into Sylar's head, and it is brilliant. This fic, to me, encapsulates both Sylar's character and his view on the Mohinder/Sylar relationship. There are a lot of points of view on their relationship in fandom, but this, to me, is IT. It fits flawlessly with the cannon, and it is endlessly compelling.

This fic is titled "Two Seconds" because it is the extended expression of a two second thought-process from a memorable moment in V2's "Powerless". It's brilliant, it's beautiful, read it. Then, when you're done, I highly recommend going through her archives.

Why this must be read:

Three phrases to describe this fic: well written, spot on Weasley characterization, laugh 'til you cry funny. And I'm pretty sure this fic was written at least a year before Half Blood Prince came out, so bonus points to the author for calling Remus/Tonks.

Ginny held up a hand. "Ron. As hard as it is to believe, there are people in the world who weren’t raised as Weasleys." She turned to Hermione. "D’you remember me telling you about the time I put chocolate syrup in all the twins’ shoes?"

Hi, it's wizefics again. In addition to driving the Torchwood van, I've been tapped to share the fandom that first sucked me into fandom! Dragon Ball Z! Yes, that's right! We are going old school. I am going to try very hard to get some sort of DBZ Guide up before the end of the month. But, it's an old fandom, so I would think that most fans would already know everything. Besides, which, it's insanely complicated!

Why this must be read: Because at it's heart, DBZ is about the competition between Goku and Vegeta, whether they are trying to kill each other, or just prove that they are stronger and this fic focuses on that. Also, this is one of the funniest, laugh out loud fics I've ever read.

Author's Summary: After hearing the word day-in and out, young Trunks and Goten finally ask Vegeta to explain what a "Kakarot" is.

Excerpt: At that moment, the back door slammed open and Vegeta stalked out, cursing angrily to himself. He walked out onto the cement walkway and shouted, "Brats, I need more weight!"

"Whee, it’s horsey time!" Goten cheered, then quickly helped Trunks gather up the cards. They both ran over to Vegeta, who got down into position to do push-ups.

"Giddy-up!" Goten exclaimed, clambering onto Vegeta’s back.

"Shut up and sit down!" Vegeta snapped.

Trunks took his place on Vegeta’s shoulderblades and gave Goten an "ix-nay on the orsey-hay" look. Goten covered his mouth with his hands and nodded, eyes bright with enthusiasm, and sat down on Vegeta’s rear end. The moment the boys were situated, Vegeta started doing his push-ups.

timetraveled is my favorite Lily/James writer and she doesn't disappoint in this. It's the missing scene behind the torn picture Harry found in Sirius' bedroom in Deathly Hallows. Mix a cat, a broomstick, a hideous vase, and baby Harry and you get this hilarious, fluffy story.

Why this must be read: This feels like an episode with Shassi. Wait, let me rephrase that: this feels like an episode with reciprocated Shassi. I love that Uncle Jack is such a huge part of this fic. He's like a bad penny, always turning up. Shawn is completely incorrigible, but he grows up (just a very itty bitty little) in the end. And The Shawn/Lassiter relationship builds wonderfully. A clever caper, a great resolution, and awesome characterizations—definitely time well spent reading this one!

Why this story must be read: When Vin meets an old friend things go awry. Set in the ATF AU this fic does a great job of updating the Charlotte Richmond/Vin story. The author provides a believable back story for the two characters and their inability to ignore each other through the years. Told from Vin's POV the emotions between Vin and Charlotte come across as very raw, the counterpoint being the rest of the team's unquestioning support. I love how eventually Vin realises that some things can change and life can be different and good.

Originally written for a superhero_muses exercise, Retry is written in the second-person imperative framed by the use of computer commands. Sounds gimmicky, but it is precisely the use of commands that imparts a particularly tragic and pitiful air to the life of Flash villain Inertia given his canon backstory.
