12:36 am If the World is Ending by Redbrickrose (PG-13)
Fandom: Bandom (Fall Out Boy & Cobra Starship mostly)
Pairing: Pete Wentz/Ashlee Simpson mentioned, but this is gen
Length: one-shot; short
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] redbrickrose
Author Website: LJ Fic Memories
Why this must be read:

(Sorry I'm starting a bit late this time around. I wasn't expecting a turn driving the van since it had been so long since I signed up. But I'm psyched to share some recs I've been meaning to make for many, many months.)

This first story is suitably cracktastic (zombie apocalypse FTW!) to showcase the playfulness of this RPS fandom, and I chose it because it made me smile. A lot. I don't think you have to be into bandom to appreciate it. However, the Bandom overview is here if you feel the need for additional background.

10:09 am Patrons With Questions by emmaorgana (PG)
Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: Gen; Jocasta Nu
Length: 1,242
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] emmaorgana
Author Website: N/A
Why this must be read:

If you like reading about canon events from an alternate point of view then this is the Star Wars fic for you. The author re-writes the Jedi Archives scene from Attack of the Clones and puts Jocasta Nu front and center. I could completely relate to Jocasta's exasperation in having to deal with such stupidity/laziness on a daily basis in such a thankless job; the moments of thoughts of violence towards a certain Jedi were also a hilarious touch.

Then she saw him. Obi-Wan Kenobi stood three meters from desk 12, the closest anyone was to it, and he was staring at the bronze bust of Dooku. She collected herself with a deep, calming breath, and strode to his side. “Did you call for assistance?” She asked him, trying to keep her temper.

“Yes,” he said, vaguely; then, as if just noticing her: “yes, I did!”

She resisted the urge to pull out one of her hairsticks and poke him in the head with it. “Are you having a problem, Master Kenobi?”

“Yes,” he said again, moving to desk 12. “I, um, am looking for a planetary system called Kamino.”

11:08 am Five Times Dean Was Always a Girl by Teand (PG-13)
Fandom: Supernatural
Pairing: Gen
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] teand
Author Website: Teand’s fic tag
Why this must be read: It’s an intriguing take on how things might have been if one of the Winchesters wasn't a boy. This feels real, it’s not gimmicky or tongue-in-cheek but rather devestating and hard, just like it should be.

07:04 pm Bite the Bullet by Creed Cascade & SassyInkPen (NC-17)
Fandom: Tour of Duty
Characters: Myron Goldman/Zeke Anderson
Length 3822 words
Author(s) on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] creedcascade & [livejournal.com profile] sassyinkpen
Author(s) Website: Notes from the Underground
Why this is a must read:

This has got a little something for everyone- messed up and snarky Myron, Zeke knowing what he's always wanted from the beginning, first times and even some light bondage. It's cute and it's hot and well, Creed and Sassy never disappoint in whatever fandom they wrote in.

Excerpt: "Lookin' thoughtful, LT," Zeke said after a few minutes. "Wanna tell me what got ya inta trouble?"

"No," groaned Myron. "I got drunk. I got in a fight. End of story."

"Nothin' is ever that simple with you," Zeke replied and shifted on the bed, moving closer to Myron. A comfortable silence hung in the air between them. Like everything else in their lives, they knew exactly what the other person needed.

07:50 pm Stating The Obvious by Princess of Geekland (PG 13)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim/Blair
Length: 56K
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] princessofg
Author Website: princessofg
Why this must be read: Because all the animal/mystical/shaman stuff is sometimes a hard sell for me in this fandom, and picky so-and-so that I am, this is my favourite of that story type. It’s post “Sentinel Too” and makes sense of the Alex debacle in a convincing way, mixing fanon and canon beautifully as Jim comes to a series of realisations about just how is relationship with Blair should continue. And of course, he’s then got to get Blair on board. Which is why I love this fic. Both guys feel very much in character, and for once it’s Jim who has to use his verbal powers of persuasion..

He gives Blair a gentle little shake. "In my visions in the Temple, Alex wanted us to be together, her and me, literally to go down in flames together. But you know what happened? You know what I heard? Incacha's voice, asking me what I feared. And the answer was in what I saw, the visions, hallucinations, whatever. They were all you, Blair. They were all about how much I feared losing you. How much I feel responsible for you. Connected to you."

Jim releases him and starts walking again. Blair walks, too, just to keep up. He smooths his hair out of his eyes and when his hand comes down, it meets Jim's big hand and they clasp. This time Blair doesn't argue. This time he holds on tight. Jim opens his mouth to go on, but he realizes Blair is thinking hard, looking at the sidewalk ahead of his feet, and Jim sticks his free hand back in the slash pocket of his bomber jacket and keeps walking, choosing their path while Blair thinks. Ten paces. Twenty. They have passed the ice cream place without stopping. No one stares at them -- two men walking down the sidewalk, holding hands.

09:44 pm ...And Some Parts to a Mustang GT (PG) by Rainbeaux Sue
Fandom: POPSLASH
Pairing: Chris/Lance
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rainbeaux
Author Website:http://rainbeaux.livejournal.com/
Why this must be read:

This fic, written for last year's MTYG challenge, never fails to make me smile. Chris, disgruntled that Lance is 'deserting' him to spend Christmas with his family, is surprised to find that he's the recipient of a sequence of presents that starts with a box of pears and a Partridge Family video. Joey, meanwhile, is gleeful in anticipation of the invasion of unwanted birds and other inconvenient stuff, and increasingly frustrated when the presents don't turn out to be as much of a nuisance as he had expected.

It's a lighthearted and frothy little fic, but the conversations between Chris and Joey are just wonderful.

And eventually, it becomes clear who actually sent the gifts.
