Why this must be read:

Because it's Harley and Ivy, winding us all up in that 'will they or won't they?' tension we've come to know from the animated series. Add in that venerable trope of sex pollen, and we have a sweet and smoldering fic that's simply amazing.

It wasn't that she was unfamiliar with what her old professor had liked to term 'homoerotic attraction.' Back in her unenlightened days on the other side of the Arkham glass, she had even suspected Mr. J of harboring just such a thing for that smelly canker sore of a Bat. But she'd never experienced the phenomenon herself, and anyway she was keeping her heart (and all lower organs) nice and safe for when Mr. J finally came to his senses (not that she was thinking about him in the meantime), so this kind of thing was just not supposed to happen.

She had pondered the feeling, watching idly as Ivy carefully pruned her plants and studying the contrast of the bright yellow pollen against Ivy's viridian fingers, when the answer struck her like a spring-loaded pie. Pollen!

04:59 pm The 'She Likes a Prizefight' Series by Telanu (NC-17)
Fandom: THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA
Pairing: Andy/Miranda
Length: 30,000 (series total)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] somniesperus
Author Website: The Rag and Bone Shop
Why this must be read:

The author's summary of the first story is an absolutely perfect quote by Iris Murdoch: "love is the difficult realization that someone other than oneself is real." Part of the difficulty in writing Miranda/Andy is that in the movie each sees the other rather one dimensionally. To Miranda assistants are little more than that and are rarely, if ever, seen as people in their own right. Miranda spends most of the movie as the consummate "Dragon Lady" and it's only at the end that Andy begins to understand that there may be more to her. In this series, Telanu continues the development of each character and with them, their relationship.

What I love best about this series is the second story. It's a retelling of the first story, but written from Miranda's perspective and in second person POV. It should be near impossible to pull off, but Telanu does it so beautifully that the reader feels like they're right there with Miranda.

Why this must be read:
I can't really describe this fic. It's just one of those really weird and twisted fics. It's entertaining. It's funny. It's adorably cute.  Oh and I'm really bad at promoting fics, especially this late in the game. Just read it.  There is a semi-rape warning, but trust me it's not what you would expect at all.

Ghandi Said it Best

Jason’s pretty sure he’s getting raped tonight.

He’s had months to come to terms with this, to be fair. His fellow contestants made it seem inevitable since the low-key impromptu hotel room party sprung to life day three of Pasadena. It’s where he met Michael Johns, the seven foot tall Aussie who was already best friends forever with that chubby guy Jason watched own Bryan Adams two days before. Michael said oh yeah that’s David Cook, he’s top notch.

A trio was born that night.

Even before Michael’s departure, long before if one insists on precision, the impending act was obvious. Nothing about what David ever said to Jason supported this, no, it was what everyone else said. Every. Single. Day.

11:00 pm Prior the Incantatem by Templa Otmena (PG)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Characters: Cedric, James, Lily, Sirius, Dumbledore, Others
Length: 28,227 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] templa_otmena
Author Website: Fanfiction.net
Why this must be read:

As the author herself put it, this is a "canon approach to a distinctly AU event." Set during Goblet of Fire sometime after Harry got out of the maze, this is probably one of my favorite "time travel" stories out there. I really can't say much more than that because I don't want to give away the plot, though the title should give you a hint.

11:03 pm Persistence of Memory (The Lives of Saints Remix) by pogrebin (PG13)
Title: Persistence of Memory (The Lives of Saints Remix)
Fandom: Torchwood (with strong Doctor Who references!)
Pairing: Jack/Ianto, hints of past Martha/Jack
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] pogrebin
Author Website: A list of her fics/
Why this must be read: This is an extremely powerful, very real look at the Torchwood characters through the eyes of Dr. Martha Jones. Twice.

I'm cheating a bit – this story could almost be recced on the Doctor Who van, but it is fundamentally a story of the Torchwood team. Martha met the team twice, but she's the only one who remembers what they were like during The Year that Never Was. When she meets them again, she has to work to keep the memories of what wasn't from overwhelming that which is.

This is vintage perfectly written time-muckery and the story that emerges is pitch perfect. It's a pleasure to rec it here.

11:16 pm Fifty Things Jack Harkness Learnt... by loveslashangst (PG13)
Title: Fifty Things Captain Jack Harkness Learnt After Ianto Jones Learnt to Knit
Fandom: Torchwood
Pairing: Jack/Ianto, Gwen/Rhys
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] loveslashangst
Author Website: A list of her fics
Why this must be read: I can't believe this hasn't already been recced. But, since it hasn't, let me sell it to you if you've missed it.

This is a story about grief and healing. Set after the end of season 2, it looks at Jack, Ianto, and Gwen through the very simple coping mechanism that Ianto randomly adopts – knitting.

If you're a knitter, you will love this. If you're not a knitter, you will still love this! It is in turns tear jerking and laugh out loud funny. It's bittersweet, especially retrospectively since we've seen CoE, but it reminds us that in time, all wounds eventually heal. And life moves forward, as painful as that may be.

11:21 pm Not So Fragile a Thing by K Hanna Korossy (R)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: none (het mentioned)
Length: 185 kB
Author on LJ: not known
Author Website: HERE
Why this must be read:

When I first read "Not So Fragile a Thing" I didn't like it. I really didn't like it, but there was one moment in there, that was – in my opinion – worth the time spent with this story. So I saved it. After I had read it the second time I decided it was a really good story and I printed it. But only after the third reading I understood.
So what is that about? No, it's not about a woman. It's not about betrayal – trust me, really! It's not even about their friendship falling into pieces, nor the forgiveness. And no, I won't tell you what it is about. Read it, it's definitely worth the time.

But Starsky had forgiven because he'd seen how helpless Hutch had been, both to explain himself, and to try to make it up somehow. That first intense flare of pain and perfidy had eventually faded enough to reveal Hutch was hurting nearly as much as Starsky was. And with both of them swearing it wouldn't happen again, Starsky had forgiven and they had moved on.

And now Hutch had gone and done it again... while Starsky was in the
hospital. Had maybe been doing it all along with Angie, laughing behind Starsky's back at fooling him. How low could a guy get?

Hutch couldn't have meant it, not a single word he'd said after Kira. With those sad eyes and nervous hands, he'd fooled Starsky into forgiving him, but it hadn't been real. And if that hadn't, what else hadn't been over the years? His tolerance of Starsky's different tastes and weaknesses? His concern when Starsky was injured?

The blood drained from Starsky's face. Oh, God, had Hutch taken care of him these last few months out of
guilt?

His chest felt like it was on fire and Starsky curled up on his side, trying to relieve some of the agony. It couldn't be. Hutch had held him in the alley just that morning, breathing with him, comforting him, saving him. Starsky knew what he'd felt; there was no way that could all be an act.

But then, he'd known he could trust Hutch, too. The violation of that basic fact threw everything else he believed into doubt. And care, even honest, concerned care could come from a lot of motives and a lot of different kinds of people, including those who helped you up with one hand and stole your lady with the other. Starsky loved and trusted unconditionally, and wouldn't have believed Hutch might be any different.
