Fandom: HEROES Pairing: Sylar/Luke Length: 4,706 Author on LJ: ashedrakeAuthor Website: Fic MasterlistWhy This Must Be Read: Really, really, really hot sex. But if you need more of a reason than that... This is an episode tag for 'Shades of Gray', where Sylar goes back for Luke after abandoning him in the diner: pretty much the most written set-up in Sylar/Luke fic, and out of the hundreds of fics that explore this exact situation, this one is head and shoulders above the rest. The sex is tender and loving (and smoking hot!), but that doesn't stop Sylar from being Sylar, constantly keeping his objective in mind. Ashedrake has a beautiful writing style and a great Sylar voice; with phrases like: There’s a peculiarly sullen beauty to him if you look closely, like an artist painted him with a very limited palette. From his reddish brown locks to his reddish brown eyes, his softly freckled skin and his pink lips, everything fits together, she really hones in Luke's unconventional attractiveness. Unvoiced Apologies strikes a great balance of being romantic without becoming saccharine and there are enough dark hints throughout to make the tenderness-verging-on-fluffiness feel very in character. Finally, I personally have great affection for smut fics that give a nod to safe sex because it's a woefully underwritten kink of mine. ( Excerpt )Unvoiced Apologies

I was going to save this one for later, to break up all the Iron Man fics, but I'm in the mood for it today, instead. I mentioned I like experimental writing, right? Fandom: MARVEL COMICS -- X-Men movieverse Pairing: Rogue/Logan Length: 1,400 Author on LJ: amand_r Author Website: Master Fic List Why this must be read: I love it when fanfic writers push the bounds of prose, of story, and really experiment with things like style and POV and linear time. In this fic, amand_r stretches all of those boundaries, and yet at the same time the writing never becomes mere experiment for the sake of experiment -- the form and the content are inseparable here, exploring the possibilities of what it would be like to be Rogue, absorbing all of those personalities. It's dense and packed with emotion and resonance, and at the same time it's like an abstract sculpture of a story. And no one does second-person like amand_r. 'When we first met,' is his involuntary start, which resembles the fumblings of a young hunter on the safety. He doesn't carry a bowie knife anymore. Cody has three pocket knives: one for weekdays, one for holidays, and one for church. Later, we found that all metals were ours, except aluminum foil. Instead, the literature of life gave us Foil, and that had been pretty damn funny to us, even if not to Charles.
'When we first met,' his finger closes on the trigger, 'I wouldn't have pegged you for a Miller girl.'
'Girl' makes you feel small, tight, wound up, gum hardened on the bottom of a school desk. Cherry gum. You Like This Angle, Shoot

Fandom: BANDOM Pairing: MCR gen Length: 72,250 words Author on LJ: thesamefireAuthor Website: Fic Master ListWhy this must be read:They got a lot more than they bargained for when they moved into the Paramour to write their new record. This the definite Paramour story. It's creepy and eerie and intense and completely captivating, and has a great sense of place. The characterisations are wonderful and all the different strands of the story - the supernatural elements, their personal relationships, the emotions, the MUSIC they're creating - are all equally fascinating and important, woven together to form an absolutely wonderful story. One of the best from this year's Big Bang. ( Excerpt from the story... )In The Walls

Fandom: SMALLVILLE Pairing: Clark/Lex Length: one shot, coda Author on LJ: yakkorat_ficsAuthor Website: - Why this must be read:after the long previous fic recs, I thought, you might cherish some shorter fic, for a change :) This has been the author's first and so far only SV fic, but what an entrance into clex! The way she was able to capture Clark's feelings as I thought, they should have been in that SV episode "Spell" , is simply perfect! or the briefest moment, Clark allowed himself the realization that Lex might have stayed at that piano, disregarding hunger, thirst, exhaustion, until one of them consumed him... and he died. Clark was unprepared for the surge of grief that struck him then, bitter and nauseating and stinging like Kryptonite. Contemplating a world without Lex Luthor made him feel like all the wind had left his body in a rush. And I was worried about a stupid interview.
And why Lex? Again? God, why not him for once? Lex, Lana, Chloe, his parents... It was always everyone he cared about. Everyone he loved. As if somehow the cosmos knew how best to twist the knife. Lex. It would have to have been Lex. Nothing could be worse.
Now wait just a minute. When had Lex become the single most important person in Clark's life?Sonata
