Fandom: MERLIN Pairing: (Arthur/Merlin) Length: (~4,600 words) Author on LJ: rageprufrockAuthor Website: Her website is glitterati, but her work is also up on Archive of Our Own. Why this must be read:This is an oldie but a goodie, one I'm surprised hasn't been recced here before. Three Castles was one of the first fics I remember from the very early days of Merlin fandom. That said, it still holds up perfectly well. The story reads very much like a fairy tale/medieval romantic comedy. It is, like most of rageprufrock's stuff, equal parts hilarious and touching. (Also, her Arthur voice in particular is superb.) Even if you've already read this fic, it's worth curling up in your favorite chair and settling back in for a re-read. As for an excerpt, I'll let the first line/summary speak for itself: It’s a perfectly wretched day in Camelot when Uther Pendragon announces Arthur’s betrothal.Three Castles

Fandom: BANDOM Pairing: hints of Bob/Gerard, Frank/Mikey/Pete, but mostly gen Length: 45,380 words Author on LJ: turps33Author Website: On AO3 & Fic Master List on LJWhy this must be read:Gerard's band has been taken from him, Bob helps him find them. This is an awesome space AU with a truly original and intriguing premise that shapes not only the setting/universe but also the story and how it develops. The characters are wonderful, shaped by their pasts and struggling to change and become something more, a little larger than life (when is Gerard not!) but still so very human. It's a story that has everything: space ships and action and adventures, tragedy and loss and grief, friendship and love, silliness and humour. Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Length: 103k Author on LJ: Not known Author Website: HEREWhy this must be read: This one was first recommended to me by the lovely neaslon, and after I’d read it I understood why. It’s a very good and well-written angst story, and it’s also post-SR. =) In the fanfic Starsky and Hutch are in a committed relationship, but their relationship is not what it once was. Starsky makes an effort to fix it, but sometimes Hutch just gets it all wrong. Excerpt: "We're in Hawaii and you're daydreamin'? Starsky's voice dragged him back to the present.
"I saw the pants and got pulled back thinking about Duluth" Hutch admitted.
"Yeah, well, I figured we'd take the curse off 'em by showing you a good time. Give ya' something besides a blue jean companion."
"Blue jeans are great on you," he said. Softer, "and off you."
"Hey, we said ..."
"I know. Maybe I shouldn't have agreed."Question #3

Fandom: MARVEL COMICS -- Iron Man movieverse Pairing: Tony/Obadiah. Sorta. Length: 9,800 Author on LJ: quigonejinn and jamaillith Why this must be read:I promised there'd be more clone fic, right? These are five short fics, and the title says it all. I can never decide which one is my favorite, they're by turns horrifying and heartbreaking. #3 has non-con. Stane is experimenting, and each clone turns out different, and each one meets a different fate. The only constant is that Obadiah Stane is a bad, bad man. That night, in the dark, Jarvis shows Tony a picture of a woman with red hair, wearing a blue dress. A man with dark hair and a mustache. Tony and another person. They're sitting on steps and have their arms over each other's shoulders; the letters on their matching shirts spell out MIT. Flickering footage, converted from 8MM, of a boy in a black suit at a white tablecloth restaurant, delighted with the baked alaska on fire in front of him. Digital footage of a the red-haired woman, wearing black, picking her way through the shop and scolding -- there is no sound. This Jarvis cannot generate sound, but the camera wobbles from the cameraman laughing. Jarvis remembers, years ago, that Tony liked looking at that one. It is meant to be comforting, but Tony wants nothing to do with it. Five Times Obadiah Stane Cloned Tony Stark

Fandom: TORCHWOOD Pairing: Gen; Ianto, team Length: ~ 2,000 words Author on LJ: alex51324Author Website: No website that I know of. Why this must be read: Oh, this is absolutely lovely. It's a fascinating story, and an interesting view on the possibilities of life. I love how the author takes a tiny mention of a civilization and fleshes it out and makes it real. In tone it reminds me a bit of Doctor Who. My ultimate non-schmoopy feel-good story of Torchwood. ( Read more )The Face of God (or, Ianto Hears a Who).

Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Ray Kowalski/Ray Vecchio Length: 6,314 Author on LJ: ningengirai Author Website: http://community.livejournal.com/ninberriesWhy this must be read: I think my favorite thing about this fic--BESIDES, I MUST POINT OUT, HOW ABSOLUTELY AMAZINGLY HOT IT IS--are the characters, because they are so spot-on and just... ::FLAILS:: Boys! Vecchio is the pursuer, here, with the hots for Kowalski (who's surprised by his attraction to Vecchio--which is a cool angle that isn't done that often in fic and should be, because YUM and YAY) and I just love both boys so much here. ::draws hearts everywhere:: I love Kowalski's sharp intelligence and quirkiness, as well as Vecchio's sarcasm and determination. I also really liked the realism in this fic; evident in the details about the case they're working, the descriptions of the city and what it means to Vecchio, as well as the effect of being a cop on both characters. Throw in some subtle and well-placed humor, and--let me just say it again--HOTNESS--and this is a great fic, definitely one of my favorites. Enjoy! :) ( Click me to read excerpt of yay!! )Little Things
