Why this must be read:
After Jenny died, we all know the team was split-up, but what the show skipped over everyone's reactions. Turn not, Tempt not, is a realistic and believable look into Ziva's leaving. It's short and sweet and the language is beautiful. It is just a flash of thought but a great read.

"Home. A difficult concept; a complex one. She tries not to think about what 'home' means but she has never been a proponent of self-deception. She is nothing if not honest."

Why this mustbe read:Wonderfully economical wordsmith. This is a powerful, angst filled look into the Earth's and immortal's future. Not a gathering story.

Why this must be read: Chuck Shirley, Prophet of the Lord, tasked/cursed with writing the Winchester gospels. Well, it's not all fun and games, you know! Sometimes he sees stuff he really doesn't want to see. Sometimes he writes countless inane conversations that seem to have no bearing on the story, and then he's got to figure out what's important. Writing is HARD!

This story is from Chuck's POV, but it's really about Dean and Castiel coming together (pun possibly intended) for the first time. It's from the in-between time of S4 and S5 (which started last night, and I haven't seen it yet!) Trin's Chuck voice is spot-on. The fic's got all the whacky family dynamics of people cooped up together in a house and waiting for something to happen. And when one of those people is a prophet with a parakeet named Bill and a bit of an angel fetish of his own, you know you're in for a treat. Read, laugh, feed the author.

'I’m busy!' Chuck stood up so fast he almost knocked over his chair. 'I’m working!' He stabbed his finger toward his scramble of marked-up pages. )

Why this must be read: This story traces out a very likely scenario that could happen after the end of the miniseries - that even though the Witch is gone, the people of the O.Z. would want proof, or at least insurance, before letting a member of that family ascend to the throne again. Here, they call for Azkadellia's execution. Despite this the story manages to balance sadness with hope very well.

Why this must be read: I don't normally read "Five Things" stories but I'm glad I made an exception for this one. It is a beautiful look at Hitsugaya and Matsumoto, at times humorous, other times bittersweet, but always ringing true to their relationship as captain and vice-captain.

Why this must be read: There were some utterly fantastic fics that filled in the hiatus with possibilities of what happened after the season 4 finale. This is one of my favourites. It's long and plotty with great character voices all around, and it's well-informed by the full weight of the fourth season. Chuck, Anna, even Jimmy make appearances as the boys and an injured/exhausted Castiel take refuge in Bobby's house, protected by anti-demon wards and anti-angel sigils. The story builds on a feeling of being trapped, of the inevitable waiting, and the tension of wolves circling outside in the darkness, pawing at the doors and prowling ever closer to their targets. Dreams become avenues for communication, for all the things no one wants to face in the light of day. Beautiful and haunting - it's a real pleasure to sink into this fic and live there for a while.
