10:03 am What You Already Know - Series by Maureen Thayer (PG-13)
Fandom: STARGATE SG1
Pairing: Sam/Daniel (but there is a Gen version as well)
Length: Novels - 7 part series that ranges from 33,000 to 290,000 words (gen version is a little shorter, but not much)
Author on LJ:  Not that I know of
Author Website: Stargate-Horizons
Why this must be read:

This is a fun and long read which starts after "Evolution" in Season Seven. It presents slightly AU versions of other events/episodes, and involves Psychic!Daniel who gained powers due to his ascension and other events. If you don't like paranormal stories, you probably won't care for this, but I think it's presented well and fits nicely into what the show tells us about humans and Ancients and evolution.

I can't decide on a segment to excerpt, so I'll just tell you to go read it! :)

What You Already Know: Part 1 - Evolution
What You Already Know: Part 2 - Grace
What You Already Know: Part 3 - Chimera
What You Already Know: Part 4 - Death Knell
What You Already Know: Part 5 - Heroes
What You Already Know: Part 6 - Lost City
What You Already Know: Part 7 - Resolutions

11:58 am Opening Door Does Not Alter Time by Marguerite (PG)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Scully
Length: short one-shot
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: author's page on Gossamer
Why this must be read:

I'm very into the short, one-shot, sweet fics right now. This is one of them. While this story is not an "OMG! You HAVE to read this!" story, it does make a wonderful example of what an author can do with a 'glimpse in time' concept. We've got Mulder and Scully sitting in a laundromat after what sounds like a rather tough case. They tease, tell a story, and share a moment. That's all. And, that's all that is needed.

01:13 pm The Paper Trail Affair by Hazelayes and Periwinkle (G)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: none (gen; hints of Napoleon/Illya pre-slash)
Length: 50 pages
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] periwinkle27 and [livejournal.com profile] hazelayes
Author Website: Periwinkle's Fan Fiction
Why this must be read: I have a particular love for fictional paperwork; imaginary bureaucracy entertains me highly. So this fanfic tickled me pink - or red(tape), as it were. A prequel story, it shows the early days of Napoleon and Illya's partnership through records recovered from the U.N.C.L.E.'s confidential files - inter-office memos, telephone transcripts, mission reports, and other various documents (the expense reimbursements are a personal favorite). The attention to detail is marvelous and hysterical, from the different fonts used to the convincing instructions on the forms. And the story itself is a sweet look at a developing relationship.

01:45 pm No Quarter Given by Lex, NC17
I've fallen a bit behind so except several recs this week (and even more today, hopefully).

Fandom: BtVS
Pairing: Buffy/Angelus, Buffy/Spike
Length: 2500 or so
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] crankylex
Author Website: http://lex.bitchenvy.com/fiction.html
Why this must be read: Why? Because Lex is an old school Buffy/Angel goddess who wrote a gorgeous, evil, twisted Angelus and a strong yet feminine Buffy. Because this is evil smut just the way I love it. Because it's got a Season 2 pre-chipped, pre-souled Spike who's wicked and witty. Also, Lex gave Buffy the silliest name imaginable. And did I mention the wonderful evil smut? This was written before we knew Spike would ever love Buffy, before we knew the outcome of Buffy and Angel's relationship, and therefore the characterizations are different from even the same author writing today (not that Lex is *sob*). Do read the warnings because this isn't a happy fluffy fic, though there is humor in it.

02:12 pm Game of Chance by Tamara, NC17
Fandom: BtVS
Pairing: Buffy/Angelus
Length: 2500 words or so
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] msaramat
Author Website: http://tamara.bitchenvy.com
Why this must be read: I think this was the first Buffy/Angelus fic I read and it opened up a wonderful word of possible not quite evilness that could be this relationship. In this fic Buffy and Angelus meet up at the Bronze and play a game of pool that turns into something very erotic and hot and spicy when they bet on the outcome. But what seems to be just sex twists at the end into an Angelus I adore. Tam wrote other pairings in this fandom but her Buffy/Angelus is hot, dark, and oddly sweet at times (perhaps more bittersweet).

02:37 pm Shades of Solace by Tinkerbell, NC17
Fandom: AtS
Pairing: Cordelia/Angel (with Buffy/Angel hints)
Length: 2000 or so
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ragingpixie
Author Website: http://ragingpixie.bitchenvy.com
Why this must be read: There weren't many authors who managed successfully to be both Buffy/Angel and Cordy/Angel shippers; Tink was one of them. This is a lovely, sad, erotic piece set during Angel Season 1 (and I'm pretty sure written then, too) about two lonely people finding each other in the night. What works so well is that both Angel and Cordy are perfectly in character and this so could have happened on the show if Joss had only let it happen earlier than it sort of did. There are a couple other Cordy/Angel fics on her site along with Buffy/Angel, and Tink's wonderful Angel/Spike series which was sadly never finished but is well worth the read if you're a slash fan. (If you read the latter I highly recommend the fic from Cordy's POV.) Enjoy!

Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Vecchio/Ray Kowalski
Length: 20,000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ariastar
Author Website: http://ariafic.livejournal.com
Why this must be read: BECAUSE BOYS OMG. I love this story--the writing is beautiful and the imagery is just fantastic, the characters are great (I particularly adored Vecchio, though all three characters are pitch-perfect), and I love the totally believable way the boys hook up. I love how Kowalski and Vecchio get along and spark, and then Fraser shows up and everything gets a little wacky and tense before it all ends up exactly like it should--with OT3 happiness! There's a lot of great details, case-fic stuff, humor (I love the part where Vecchio and Kowalski decide this can only be settled in neutral territory--i.e. Canada, i.e. the Consulate) awesome dialogue, and the end always makes me sniffle happily and go "AWW BOYS!" I just love them, and I love this fic, and I hope you do, too!

Also, v. hot kitchen!sex. I should mention that too, yeah? :D? Enjoy!

Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Ray Kowalski/Ray Vecchio
Length: 3,450
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] prudence_dearly
Author Website: http://prudence-dearly.livejournal.com/
Why this must be read: As much as I love first-time fic, I also *love* established relationship fic. And I have a huge soft spot in my heart for protective!Rays, whre they are so fierce about protecting and taking care of each other. But the thing that makes this fic is the end--trust me, I went from going O_O through the whole thing into exploding into wee Sionn!bits, entirely composed of hearts. You will, too, trust me :)

Enjoy!

Fandom: LIFE ON MARS
Pairing: Sam/Gene
Length: 1977 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] alisso

Why this must be read: On the television we got a pretty good idea of how strange 1973 looked to Sam. Here is a funny and sexy look at just how strange Sam must look to 1973.

07:33 pm Signs and Portents by aesc (PG-13)
Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Dean/Castiel
Length: ~ 2730
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] aesc
Author Website: Supernatural Fic Tag
Why this must be read: You know how sometimes everyone has figured it out except the main characters? That's a little bit what this is, except the way the story builds is so lovely, you'll fall in love with the trope all over again.

Every time Dean, Sam, and Cas check into a motel (although Cas doesn't need a bed for the night), people seem to notice how close Cas stands to Dean. Clerks give them small smiles and sly glances; frat boys tell them not to be so obvious; Sam teases that he's been dumped. But Dean isn't sure why people are making the assumption that he and Cas are together. Because they're not. But maybe they should be? Sweet, in the adorable, "well, of course!" way.

Fandom: BANDOM
Pairing: Gerard/Bob, implied Brian/Matt Cortez
Length: 8,380 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] carleton97
Author Website: reconciled among the stars
Why this must be read:

The one where Bob is a dragon and Gerard is his treasure. And no, it's not an AU.

This story is sweet and adorable and funny, with a touch of magic that makes it something out of the ordinary. I love both Gerard's and Bob's inner voices in it, they're so very THEM, and the way the whole band interact makes me feel all warm and happy. A perfect little jewel of a story.

09:12 pm Your Fixed Point by quigonejinn (R)

Fandom: MARVEL COMICS -- Iron Man movieverse
Pairing: Tony/Rhodey, Tony/Obadiah
Length: 15,000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] quigonejinn
Author Website: mere shadow and vapor
Why this must be read:

So, there's this genre in fic, the genderswap. And usually it's played for laughs and hijinks, and usually it involves the male characters turning into women within the story, and dealing with their newfound breasts. It's never been my thing. But [livejournal.com profile] quigonejinn takes a different approach: she asks a simple question. What would be different if Tony Stark was born female? And then she unravels that like some kind of elegant thought experiment. It's [livejournal.com profile] quigonejinn, so it's nonlinear and devastating. It's less an AU than a mirror image, and it's one of my all time favorite stories in any fandom. How many girl geniuses are there out there? Girl engineering geniuses, who drink like fish and sleep around and build themselves flying robot suits? Not nearly enough.

It's a Blackhawk, so they sit four and four with Tony wedged between Rhodey and a six foot two staff sergeant. The engine and the wind are noisy enough that nobody can hear anything; Tony's mouth and lips are cracked, and she is, in clear daylight, sitting in a context like this, recognizably a small person. In fact, she sits slumped half in the seat, half in Jim's lap. He isn't exactly holding her hand, but he thinks that, for once, she wouldn't object if somebody tried.

For once, the reason why everybody stares at her chest isn't because of the low-cut tank-top.
