The prompt that spawned this was simply: 'Monica/Sylar: the serial killer & St Joan, mortal enemies and sometime lovers'. bellonablack took that and wove a rich and compelling relationship between Sylar and Monica, caught in the classic comic book hero/villain battle, each trying to stop the other but, in a way, also very much reliant on each other. The tone is perfect for Heroes which itself draws a lot of its inspiration from comics. The fic is funny, action-packed and heartbreaking all at once. ( Excerpt )Not Easy Sport | | |

This was written for the Don We Now Our Gay Apparel exchange back in 2005. When Nick starts hanging out with Denise, AJ's a little uncomfortable. Maybe a lot uncomfortable. For all its length, the characters are well-drawn; Napoleon is so very much himself throughout, as is Illya. Fandom: HARRY POTTER Pairing: Harry Potter / Severus Snape / Draco Malfoy Length: ~62,000 words Author on LJ: swtalmnd, but has moved entirely to IJ (same username) Author Website: http://www.pornbunnyfarm.com/Why this must be read:Perhaps my very favoritest fanfiction trope is the 'forced marriage' one. It's like 'aliens made them do it', only they're forced to work out their relationship instead of just having sex! Harry Potter in general, but especially Snarry, fandom is just *full* of stories where Snape and Harry have to get married for the sake of the mission/to save the world/because Dumbledore put it in his will, etc. This story is a particularly awesome example of the trope because 1) it's a threesome; 2) Snape is forced to do the Courtship ritual instead of Harry (most stories take away Harry's choice, and the poor dear doesn't need any more of that); and 3) all the characters partaking in the Courtship ritual here realize just how awesome Snape is. I do like when authors get to show up how very awesome Snape can be, his good side, if you will. Threesomes can be either greatly satisfying (no one has to choose), or sadly unconvincing (three times the relationship troubles): this one is definitely the former. In this story (a post-DH fixit), Harry discovers, much to his surprise, that the magical contract naming him as head of the Black family is stipulating that he marry the head of the Prince family, one very-much-not-dead Severus Snape or pay the penalty (and there will be one). First, however, he'll have to track Snape down... This story is very cute, and as I said, I do love a good forced marriage story! The secondary characters are very well handled (Rigel Black representing the family is just priceless). Harry and Snape manage to overcome the obligatory nature of their bond, as the best forced bond fics always show, and we can really feel for their developing relationship to each other: the choice you are constrained to make can still be made of your own free will, as it is here.
