12:00 am Long live the Queen by monimala (R)
Someone just pointed this story out to me, so my last night of posting will start with it. Because it's Aliens and it's REALLY Aliens!

Fandom: MICHAEL BIEHN CHARACTERS - Cpl. Dwayne Hicks from Aliens
Pairing: Dwayne Hicks/Ellen Ripley
Length: short
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] monimala
Author's website: malasita.com

Why this must be read:
Because Aliens 3 and 4 never happened, THIS did! And because it shows how hard it must be to have survived what happened in Aliens - how do you ever go on from that, and from knowing what's out there? Not to mention that for Ripley it's the second time she has survived. But this time she's at least not on her own.

One of the comments says it all: "I'd list my favourite parts but, omg, it would be too hard to choose because it is all brilliant!" Although I agree, I want to give a tiny snippet of an excerpt anyway:

He kisses her back like he's afraid she might break, and she quickly disabuses him of that notion. She's stronger than anyone would ever give her credit for. Capable of Herculean feats. Like pulling his T-shirt from his waistband and then ripping it in two. Shoving him backwards until his legs hit the edge of the bed. Devouring him, consuming him, breathing him in.

01:18 am Kuawa by Tarlan (PG13)

I couldn't leave it with only a vidrec for Hawaii, nope, a story is also in order ;-D

Fandom: MICHAEL BIEHN CHARACTERS - Sean Harrison from the shortlived TV-series Hawaii
Pairing:  -
Length: not too long, about 13.500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tarlanx
Author's website: Phoenix Michael Biehn Archive and Tarlan's fiction archive

Why this must be read:
Because this one has it all: gunfights, kidnapping, the race against the clock to safe someone, and also the Hawaiian culture to give it just that something different. It's a fast read, because of the suspense and a story I've always enjoyed rereading after that first time which kept me up way too far into the night.

02:11 am A mother's grief (becomes another man's passion) by gega cai (G)

Fandom: MICHAEL BIEHN CHARACTERS - Kyle Reese from Terminator
Pairing:  -
Length: short
Author on LJ: [personal profile] gega_cai
Author's website: -

Why this must be read:
Because it pictures a very important moment in Kyle's life: getting Sarah's picture from John Connor. What went on right before that? Gega cai gives us an impression - and she also gives us a glimpse of Sarah in her son.

02:20 am Revelations by Indie (R)

Fandom: MICHAEL BIEHN CHARACTERS - Kyle Reese from Terminator
Pairing:  Kyle Reese/Sarah Connor
Length: short
Author on LJ:  [livejournal.com profile] indiefic
Author's website: indiefic.com

Why this must be read:
My last Terminator rec is another 'Kyle has survived' story, but this one more gritty, less humorous - and also far more sensual. Kyle and Sarah, together, and the love that's between them makes for some nice scenes in this fic. But there's also Kyle's reaction when Sarah says she's pregnant, and the reality of why he is there crashes back down on him.

02:40 am Ninja by Sasha

Fandom: MICHAEL BIEHN CHARACTERS - Bill from Susan's Plan
Pairing: -
Length: short
Author on LJ: -
Author's website: Sasha's stories are on the Phoenix Michael Biehn archive

Why this must be read:
Because this story is simply some delightful fun! Just real fun! Bill has his first rugby training and wow, isn't rugby the strangest sport? ;-P But the story is also poignant because of who Bill is.

Excerpt:

"You just stand there, and if the ball comes your way, catch it," Sam said.

The other team kicked the ball and it soared high in the air, spinning end over end. Bill realised with horror that it was headed straight for him. Shutting his eyes, he held his arms out and waited. The ball thudded into his arms, and he just managed to keep a hold of it.

He stood there, looking at the ball in wonder. I caught it, I actually caught it, he thought.

"Bill, run!" Sam shouted, pointing up the field.

Bill put his head down, and ran as fast as he could.

Well, this game is easy!

He looked up, and saw the other team heading straight for him. Straight for him.

03:16 am A stop to it by Sasha

Fandom: MICHAEL BIEHN CHARACTERS -  Jack Wallach from Asteroid
Pairing: -
Length: short
Author on LJ: -
Author's website: Sasha's stories are on the Phoenix Michael Biehn archive

Why this must be read:
Set before the mini TV series, this fast-paced story is about the danger of rain and flash floods. There's some coincidences that may be a bit of a stretch, but that's easy to forgive because of the quality of the story and the reason Sasha writes the story this way: so she can show not only the need for proper warning systems in case of emergencies, but also what corruption can cost a community.

03:37 am The Visitor by Trisha (R)

And so it comes to an end.... I've enjoyed driving the van for this particular small fandom very much. And who knows, maybe some writers out there will get inspired to tackle one of the many great characters Michael Biehn as well has brought to live on the screen. If you do, I'm sure Tarlan is more than happy to give them a good home on her fabulous website.

My last rec is going to be a little different. Where my previous recs were rather in character with the movie or show they were written about, this one actually isn't. It's... a fairy tale I guess, but of the more horrorlike kind.

Fandom: MICHAEL BIEHN CHARACTERS -  Lt. Hiram Coffey from The Abyss
Pairing: Hiram Coffey/OFC, Hiram Coffey/OMC,
Length: 22.000 words
Author on LJ: -
Author's website: Trisha's stories are on the Phoenix Michael Biehn archive.

Why this must be read:
This story actually has nothing to do with The Abyss, in fact, that whole movie is no more than a nightmare Coffey had. He and Bud Brigman are friends here and Brigman drags a reluctant Coffey off for a vacation in England, to help him recuperate after a disastrous SEAL operation. And then it turns into this wonderful supernatural story I just adore. Very well written, with two great guys (not just Coffey, but Bud Brigman as well!) and a fairy that has nothing to do with the little winged kind of children's books.

Go read and enjoy!

05:52 am The Observance of Societal Norms by ElmyraEmilie (NC-17)
Hi all! I’ve snatched the keys from the basket and started the engine. We’re going on an unusual path (for me). All sorts of genres visited this month as we wind our way toward a favorite holiday. The air is crisp and the van is clean. Sit back and enjoy the view.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Blair/Jim
Length: 10K
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] elmyraemilie
Author Website:  at Artifact Storage Room Three
Why this must be read: It’s just a nice bit of fluff to start your month!

I’d wanted to recommend “Renaissance” by EE, but darn if it wasn’t already done. So, we’re going with this story written two years ago for [livejournal.com profile] ts_ficathons . Set a few years after show’s end, Blair is coming back from a six-week expedition; all thoughts focused on being reunited with Jim for some rest and hot sex. Flight delays add to his exhaustion and horniness and, to add insult to injury, he has to meet Jim at the PD instead of naked at home. Will Blair be able to hold out or will he spontaneously combust?

08:43 am Love Lies Bleeding by Oenone-Jade (PG)
Welcome, gentle worthies! I am [livejournal.com profile] pargoletta, and I will be bringing you a selection of Shakespeare fanfiction this month. Shakespeare fandom is heavily affected by Sturgeon's Law, but there are some gems if you know where to look.

Fandom: SHAKESPEARE -- ROMEO AND JULIET
Pairing: Benvolio/Mercutio
Length: 2500 words
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/213898/Oenone-Jade
Why this must be read: Something simple and sweet to get you into Shakespeare fandom, in much the same way that Romeo and Juliet itself is used to get teenagers into Shakespeare.

"Love Lies Bleeding" is an older story in the fandom, and it's a combination of two relatively common sub-genres in Romeo and Juliet fanfic -- Benvolio/Mercutio slash and an exploration of just how Mercutio finally gives up the ghost, which he does offstage in the text. The combination here is sweet and affecting, as two lovers must part forever, suddenly and with no time to prepare, and have only a short time in which to improvise a meaningful farewell.

09:30 am Spander in Spandex by Kay (FRT)
Hi, there! I'm [livejournal.com profile] allyndra, and I'm back to drive the Buffy van exactly one year after my last turn. It's been a little while since there's been much slash in these parts, so let's fix that! I'm going to start out the month with some stories that I was surprised hadn't been recced here before.

Fandom: BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER/ANGEL
Pairing: Spike/Xander (Buffy/Angel, Wesley/Gunn, Willow/Tara, Larry/Andrew, Riley/Forrest/Graham, Faith/Doyle)
Length: 22,742 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kaygrr
Author Website: Kay's Asylum Journal
Why this must be read:

I held off on reading this for a long time, just because I don't care for pairing name-smooshes. If you feel that way, let me urge you to get past the word 'Spander' and give this a try. It's a fun, heavily populated AU in which the Buffy and Angel characters are competing in the Tour de France. Yes, you read that right - the Tour de France. You know you want to read it just for that premise! Adding to the genius insanity of the premise, the character voices are bright and clear, the situation is entertaining, and the relationships develop in an organic way. There's some great romantic chemistry, but I especially adore the friendships in this fic.

Hi, I'm victoria p. and I'll be driving the van for Supernatural this month. I plan to rec an assortment of gen, het, and Wincest, mostly focused on Sam and Dean.

Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: Sam/Dean
Length: 4,750 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] whereupon
Author Website: LJ memories
Why this must be read:

Let's start things off with a bang. This story contains a barroom brawl, a hold up, and a gorgeous, awkward, perfect first time for Sam and Dean.

"Okay. Shit. What do we do now?"

"We get us a goddamn ride," Dean says. He reaches down to scoop up the bill, crumples it into his pocket and strides off into the shadows, gravel crunching beneath his boots and Sam trailing behind.

"A ride to where," Sam says.

"The other side of the rainbow, Sammy," Dean says. He looks back over his shoulder to make sure nobody's watching them and then sets to work on the little grey car. "Where the skies are goddamn blue. How the hell should I know? You got us into this, you can do some of the work."

"I did not get us into this," Sam says. "You're the one who said we should stop here in the first place. You're the one who started the game. You're the one who threw the game and all I did was back you up."

Dean looks up from the driver's side door. "Didn't anybody ever give you the peer pressure speech?"

"You're not my peer, you're my brother. It doesn't count. Dean, if you're gonna break into a car anyway, why don't you just break into the Impala?"

"Dude, I'm not gonna break into my own car," Dean says. "I'm not fuckin' her up and besides, I want my keys back."

The seedy, desperate side of the boys' lives shines through here, as well as the overwhelming amount of love they have for each other. Dean's voice is spot-on, and the story is both hilarious and achy.
