10:13 am Talk to Me by Sophia Prester (PG-13)
Fandom: SUPERNATURAL
Pairing: none; Bobby-centric gen
Length: approximately 4,500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sophiap
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] presterpress
Why this must be read:

This is a great look at a day in the life of Bobby Singer, in which Bobby is, as expected, more awesome than you anyone. It also includes a couple of sly, wry crossovers that make total sense, because clearly, Bobby knows everyone who's anyone in the fight against the forces of darkness.

Some days, it seemed like the goddamn telephone rang from first light to last and beyond. In the beginning was the Word, which was all well and good, but sometimes Bobby had to wonder when the Almighty would finally get around to chiming in with a thunderous 'Shut Up.'

When the phone rang for the fourth time in less than an hour, Bobby was starting to wish they were back in the days of the telegram. Or maybe even smoke signals.

Smoke signals didn't whine, didn't panic, and didn't butt in with stupid questions while you were trying to look up requested information in a hurry and translating from bastardized Aramaic on the fly.

It's Bobby, doing what he does best -- making sure idiots like the Winchesters (and a bunch of other hunters) don't get themselves caught or killed. If he also provides a friendly ear when people need to talk, well, that's just part of the job.

Hi, I'm [livejournal.com profile] valderys and I'll be your Torchwood van driver for the next month. I find this faintly ironic as I signed up long ago and had forgotten I had even done so. And it's ironic because after Children of Earth aired I stopped reading Torchwood fic - in fact I stopped thinking about it much at all. Lalalalala. Now the scars have toughened up a bit I am venturing back - just to find you some recs :)

Fandom: TORCHWOOD
Pairing: Jack/Ianto
Length: 7,415 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] smirnoffmule
Author Website: Smirnoffmule's Master Fic List
Why this must be read:

Ok, Jack/Ianto is a ubiquitous pairing in this fandom, but it also happens to be my favourite and so there is going to be one or two... Pavlov's Bell is set in that classic time period where Jack has hired Ianto and doesn't yet know about Lisa. It's an intense piece, [livejournal.com profile] smirnoffmule uses the training of Myfanwy to bring Jack to Ianto, it's the piece of the puzzle that finally intrigues Jack enough to escalate from flirting, and it's the one task that Ianto can still find pleasure in despite his despair and worry about Lisa. I love this fic, I'm a sucker for the stories in which Ianto is a little bit broken but still unbowed. And [livejournal.com profile] smirnoffmule's prose is gorgeous!

Here we are again, sorry for the delay - I've not been feeling well.

Fandom: THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin
Length: 14,563 words
Author on LJ: not sure
Author Website: Lyrebird Mound
Why this must be read:

For my second rec, here's a great first-time story. Robert Vaughn's dislike of water comes across strongly in the episodes and this fic expands on that in brilliant style.

The story opens with Napoleon trying to overcome his fear of water, with Illya teaching him in the UNCLE pool. Whilst Napoleon's fear of water is somewhat central to the story, the plot takes a bit of a twist when Illya grudgingly tests a new Section 8 surveillance device on his partner. We get to see the great seducer Napoleon Solo at work.

This story gets Napoleon's demeanor exactly right, down to his flirting ways with the ladies. Top it all off with great humour and some interesting OC's from Section 8 also add a nice touch. Plus the sexual tension seems to build and build throughout the piece to a deliciously satisfying, well written (and extremely sexy) conclusion.

AND finally it's a must-read for those with a water kink, and I'll say no more on that ;-)

10:10 pm Don't Let Kowalski Interview the Perp by Catwalksalone (G)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: none
Length: very short
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] catwalksalone
Author Website: First we show up
Why this must be read:
If you are familiar with Mo Willems' book Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, this will be utterly hilarious to you. If you're not, it will make no sense, but it might still be hilarious. Basically, the book is about a pigeon who will do and/or say almost anything to get his wish fulfilled and drive the bus. The book's audience - toddlers - are encouraged to yell "NO!" on every page. This, as you may suspect, went over really well when it was story time at the place I used to work. It's even better with Ray Kowalski. Just click the picture to get to the next page. Now let's say it together...
