*rubs hands* Yes, I'm allowed to pimp my favorite stories in this fandom again! And like my previous turn I want to start with a story from who I consider to be the ultimate Star Wars author, someone far better than the writers of Star Wars books even IMO, ardavenport. No one brings us a galaxy that's truly alien to us like she does. And she doesn't need grant scale wars and spaceships etc. to do it, no, she uses the small things, the subtle ones. Fandom: Star Wars prequel Pairing: - Length: almost 10.700 words Author on LJ: not that I know of Author Website: her stories are on the fanfiction net Why this must be read: Life of Jedi is more than negotiating treaties alone *g*. And here they hunt a danger on a planet, where the populace knows it needs to be done, but isn't all too happy about it either. Why? You'll find out and as usual ardavenport manages to surprise. But first of all this is a very suspenseful story as Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan hunt the danger. And as always in her stories they are truly a Jedi master and his apprentice, with all the skills that make us love the Jedi so, and more importantly, also the mindset. I always come away from her stories convinced she's lived in the Jedi Temple herself, and this one is no exception. Hunters

. Fandom: LIFE ON MARS Pairing: Sam Tyler/Gene Hunt Length: Approx. 53,000 words (15 chapters). Author on LJ: nepthys_ukAuthor Website: List of stories posted to lifein1973 Why this must be read:While the author describes this story as AU, the world of Life on Mars really hasn’t changed all that much, it’s still 1973 Manchester and it’s still full of familiar places and faces, many of those familiar faces still working the same jobs. The story is all the more wonderful for that fact. Gene’s voice in particular is extraordinarily strong and instantly recognizable and if you also happen to have a taste for the hardboiled detective story/noir style you'll be in heaven. Bottom line, Nepthys is an extremely talented writer who knows how to tell a story that will keep you guessing and finally send you home satisfied. Really, who can ask for anything more? ( Here’s an excerpt if you’d like one )Still Waters. Link goes to the Master List of chapters. .

Fandom: DOCTOR WHO Characters/Pairing: Gen (Donna Noble) Length: 5481 words Author on LJ: entangled_nowAuthor Website: libraryofsolWhy this must be read:Because it's glorious. Following on from Journey's End there was a plethora of fic about Donna's ending, and this is easily my favourite. As well as being incredibly clever and witty, it deals with questions such as how could Donna live with her Time Lord consciousness? What would Jack do with a half alien accident of emergency genetics? And where would a newly minted Time Lord find a companion in the Torchwood basement? "Are you learning how to be a Time Lord Doctor Donna."
She eyed him over the bulk of the field generator set on the base of his prison.
"They said some of it sloshed over the side when I was busy not burning out and dying horribly."
"Pain and loss can bring gain, gain and vision. Things you've been searching for will appear in that heart of suffering."
Donna's mouth drew into a thin line that couldn't help but be amused.
"You're really completely barking aren't you?"
"I am unique," Dalek Caan sounded both happy and satisfied by the prospect. Footsteps In The Sand

Hello, my name is kaydeefalls and I'll be your driver for Band of Brothers this month. It's about damn time this fine little fandom got another go on the van, and I'll do my best. Fair warning, I'm a Winters&Nixon sort of gal, slash or gen, but I'll do my best to offer a decent variety of recs. Here we go! Fandom: BAND OF BROTHERS Pairing: Winters/Nixon Length: one-shot Author on LJ: n/a Author Website: unknown Why this must be read: From the original Berlin by Christmas treasure trove, this one follows Nixon through the chaos of D-Day, everything we didn't see him get up to in "Day of Days" before he showed up on that tank. It's spare and quick, with a restrained lyricism. Great Nixon portrayal, with bonus Perconte and just a light touch of implied Winters/Nixon. As they crawl up the embankment towards the road, Nixon starts to think about all the different ways a paratrooper could die in France.
"Do you know where we are, sir?"
"As a matter of fact, I do," he says. "That's what I'm good for."Not Lost

Fandom: MARVEL COMICS. Ultimates universe. Pairing: Gen Length: 1,142 words Author on LJ: posyvanillaAuthor Website: Fic MasterlistWhy this must be read: In few words, and with almost no action, posyvanilla draws an intricate picture of Steve Rogers' complex, contradictory and changing attitudes towards Tony Stark. Thoughts, feelings and memories are knit together as Steve oscillates between respect, dislike, sympathy, and the faintest hint of desire. The short story is full of contrasting images, reflecting Steve's internal conflicts: Steve's childhood poverty versus Tony's wealth; Steve's longstanding dislike of alcohol with its "bitter tang", and the day he discovered his mother was a secret drinker, versus Tony's unapologetic alcoholism. Even his unappealing breakfast cereal, "soggy bits of bran flakes," sits in contrast to the beauty of a glass of Tony's whiskey left standing on the kitchen table: "a prism of color arched its back over the rim of the glass, and below, streaks of amber shadowed over the wooden table and the edges of Steve's fingers."
