Fandom: HELLBLAZER Pairing: gen Length: 2348 Author on LJ: bossymarmaladeAuthor Website: http://sacrelicious.tamarindball.org/Why this must be read: Here's another amazing Yuletide fic ('tis the season, after all) - and another amazing fic that takes a look at John and Chas through the lens of a good, well-managed plot. This time around we have John's point of view on a problem Chas brings to him, which changes the feel of the fic and the portrayal of their friendship rather drastically, but very much in a way that's true to their characters. John is spot on here - cynical but genuine, friendship mixed with mockery - and it really carries the fic. A little weirder, a little lighter, a little more magical, this is out of a different era of Hellblazer than the fics I've recced before, but it's every bit as enjoyable. I hate not having enough time to indulge in the things I love, like the Star Wars fandom ;-( It gives me a lot less time than the previous times I was reccing stories, so to make up for only having given you one rec so far, I'm going to rec a story today, that's garanteed to give you hours of reading pleasure. It's that good, really!
Fandom: Star Wars prequel Pairing: Quilan Finn/Ben Kennan (Qui-Gon Jinn/Obi-Wan Kenobi as AR characters) Length: novella Author on LJ: katbear Author Website: I don't think so, but her stories are on Master and Apprentice Warning: alternative reality, this story is a contemporary story and not science fiction or fantasy. But the characters are still very much recognizalbe. And for those that don't like slash, yep, it's that, although mostly it's preslash.
Why this must be read: The superb writing? The lovely details that give the story a very real feel and lots of 'body'? OCs that are very likeable and only add to the story, without taking any of it away from the two main characters? Obi-Wan... eh... Ben Kennan's lovely internal voice? The wonderful visuals? (I'm particularly fond of the ones she gives of a certain true hunk of a man *g*) And hey, Ben as a biker!
I would say, read it for all of the aforementioned, and above all because this is a truly lovely story that will suck you in until you've read it all. You're lucky, you can go at it and not stop, I had to wait for (luckily almost day to day) updates! Sheer torture that was. But it was worth the wait, it became one of my very favorite stories in this and any fandom before I was halfway through.
You can read the story at KatBear's livejournal
Or without being broken up in parts at Master and Apprentice
And if, like me, you haven't got enough after that, there are two sequels. Alas they are a lot shorter *sniff*:
The Honeymoon (NC17), part 1 and part 2, or on M&A
First session, or on M&A (also NC17)
Now go read and then go to KatBear's livejournal to pester her for more. She did promise more after all (and I'm sticking to that!)

Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski Length: Approx. 2300 words Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]Author Website: All fic is indexed here. Why this must be read: 'Eight Weeks' is one of the two stories I have ever found that is told from the unique perspective of Barbra Kowaski. The whole story really captures that feeling of a mother who is happy her son is happy but at the same time curious and a little worried about the mysterious 'girl' who has put that special smile on her little boy's face. First Week.
The hamper wasn’t empty, but there were no sheets in it. Barbara frowned, and checked the bedroom, and all the cupboards, but she couldn’t find the dirty sheets anywhere. Finally, she counted his sets: the blue ones, the white ones, the ugly grey striped ones, the ones with the little faded flowers…they were all there, and the ones on the bed were clean, too.
Ray had done his own laundry.
Except he hadn’t, because he hadn’t washed his clothes, only his sheets.
Hmm.
He hadn’t done that since he’d been a teenager, having wet dreams over Stella…

Hi, I'm Callisto, and I'm stepping up to drive Starsky and Hutch this month for my pal An. So without further ado... Fandom: STARSKY AND HUTCH Pairing: None Length: 107K Author on LJ: peg22 Author Website: Kaye at Me and Thee Archive Why this must be read: Because it’s the best re-emergence of Kira fic EVER. Dobey is wounded and out of action for a while, Kira has made captain, so guess who steps up to fill Dobey’s shoes while he’s out sick? Yup, and Starsky and Hutch ain't too happy about it either.. Kaye writes sparks flying like nobody else, and both guys are wonderfully sharp and entertaining as they handle being forced to work with her again. There's a case, there's bickering and banter, some hurt/comfort, and a delightful bit of Dobey's backstory, too. This is one of those stories which unfolds like a well-written episode. ***** "Hutch — I'm not gonna do it. She can't fire me."
"Yes, Starsky, that's the whole point. She can fire you."
"Whose side are you on?"
"That's low — I don't care how mad you are."
"Well, quit defending her."
"I'm not — and quit yelling at me."
"I'm not."
"Yes, you are — God, look what's she's done to us, already."
Starsky sat his plate on the table. "Damn her, I lost my appetite — she just makes me crazy, ya know?"
"Which is exactly what she's trying to do. Now can you calm down enough to help me figure out what to do, or are you just going to curse her name all night?"
"Curse her name all night." Starsky picked up his plate and took a big bite out of his sandwich. "Buckin bips," he muttered between bites.****** Captain's Prerogative

Fandom: NUMB3RS Pairing: Charlie/Amita, Don/Liz, Alan/Millie, but romance is only one thread in the story. Length: novel Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]Author Website: Kiki on FF.netWhy this must be read: In the Season Three finale, 'Janus List', team member Colby Granger was revealed as a traitor who has been selling secrets to the Chinese. 'Canta y No Llores' was written as a response (before the opening of Season Four made it an AU). Colby was tried, convicted and sentenced to death as a traitor, then died in a prison riot. Life goes on. Liz joins the team. Alan injures his knee. Charlie stumbles into the middle of a case. A mysterious assassin is killing participants in an investigation involving a secretive drug (and everything else criminal) lord.
So why does a convicted traitor have a grave-marker in a veteran's cemetery?
Kiki weaves many threads into an engaging and exciting tale. It is heart-breaking, hilarious, and heart-stopping by turns. I love this story. Please read it and then join me in urging Kiki to write more Numb3rs fiction.
