Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Ray Kowalski/Ray Vecchio
Length: 3500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sionnain

Why this must be read:
First-time, no angst is relatively rare for this pairing, so I perked up when I noted that. Then I started reading, and with the good RayK voice, the Ray/Ray snark without a lot of animosity, and the feeling of partners growing into more, I was so, so happy. This is an adorable story that left me with a wide smile on my face

Why this must be read: This series is probably the longest story we have in the fandom, and it's so good. Quiet In Drowning is a traumatic backstory for Duck. Heed the warnings on this one--Wilby Wonderful is a sweet movie, but it also has rather dark undercurrents, and Nos explores them here. Unsent is a post-movie exploration of Dan and Duck's relationship. It's slow and sweet, but doesn't shy from serious issues, like Dan's depression and Duck's past. I love the descriptions of Wilby Island and the sense of place I get from the writing. You can read the second story independently if you don't feel up to the angst in the first one.

09:51 pm A Tragedy in Five Acts, by Rubberbutton (R)
Fandom: HARD CORE LOGO
Pairing: Billy/Joe
Length: 5,000 words

Author Website: fic list
Why this must be read: because RB gives us a hard and fast look at the some of the backstory behind Billy and Joe - as teenagers reinventing themselves, young punks just starting out. We see Joe's fixation on Bucky Haight and Billy's utter disdain of Joe's idol. RB shows us the aftermath of Joe's grand fuck-you gesture in New York, and closes the story with a brief view of Joe and Billy on the reunion tour just before the movie spirals out of control and smashes everything to glittering shards of glass.

11:46 pm The Night of the Missing Cattle Affair, by RAC (LadyRa) (NC-17)
Fandom: THE MAN FROM UNCLE / WILD WILD WEST.
Pairing: Napoleon/Illya, Jim West/Artemus Gordon
Length: 447KB

Why this must be read: It's got nominations for awards!

But seriously, RAC's fics are always excellent, and many of them have already been recced here. I was surprised to find this one wasn't! I'm not usually a fan of crossovers, especially ones where I don't already know the characters; but RAC has balanced the fandoms perfectly, and by the end of the story Jim and Artie had become people I wanted to know better. But Napoleon and Illya are by no means neglected, and have some wonderfully sweet hurt/comfort scenes. Most of all, I enjoy watching the two sets of partners having to deal with the same tensions between them...
