05:16 pm Cave Paintings Series by chaletian (PG-13)
Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
Pairing: Helo/Sharon, Hera

Why this must be read:

Lots of people don't like the series finale, so most fic relating to it goes heavily AU.  Not this series.  It is both unique and well-written.  It's about a modern archaeologist trying to make sense of things she finds.  And the twist at the ending is awesome.  Even if you don't like OCs, give this one a chance.

I'm [livejournal.com profile] streussal and I'll be reccing Heroes this month. Sorry for the late start - this honestly slipped my mind. There should be a reasonable variety in my recs.

Fandom: HEROES
Pairing: Sylar/Mohinder, Mohinder/Matt
Length: One Shot
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hackthis
Author Website: Their Memories
Why this must be read: When I was checking to make sure this hadn't already been recced, I realized that there are already a few [livejournal.com profile] hackthis stories recced here. Despite that, I still stand by my selection: it's the only Sylar wing!fic I've seen. If an early season two Sylar with wings tracking down Mohinder doesn't make you smile, I don't know what would.

08:24 pm In New York by [livejournal.com profile] falco_conlon (T)
Fandom: NEWSIES
Pairing: none (gen)
Length: ~30,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] falco_conlon
Author Website: FFnet profile
Why this must be read: Newsies the movie is set in 1899, but essentially an alternate version, in which street kids are all happy-go-lucky, clean, and no one minds the whole homeless, living-in-poverty thing. But it does leave a lot of fans wondering what it would be like for these kids in the real world. Falco uses a lot of history and really explores that.

In New York is set a few years after the strike. Spot deals in voter intimidation and control for an Irish gang, and is part of the Tammany Hall political machine. He's grown up, and grown darker, but still does what he does out of his pride in Brooklyn and his pride in being Irish. Aside from being a great Spot piece, this fic also turns New York itself into a character.

In my experience, gen fic often gets overlooked, so I wanted to really single this one out as a must read.

10:18 pm Come Back to Me by Vanderslice (teen)
Hello all! Sorry about the late start, I've been dealing with some power problems thanks to some nasty storms :(

Fandom:
DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: Tenth Doctor/Rose Tyler
Length: ~39,00 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Vanderslice's page on Teaspoon
Why this must be read:

One of my favorite 'themes' (for lack of a better term) in the Ten/Rose ship is finding a way for Rose to get back from Pete's world. And yes, its been done a million times...but this one sticks out in my mind as one of my all time favorites. The Doctor himself doesn't find a way, being afraid of the consequences. Instead his new companion, who knows that the Doctor still loves her more then anything, finds a way to get her back. Of course the method he uses is a bit...

Mickey looked at him skeptically. “So the Doctor decided to send a kid to come back here to get Rose?”

“Well, not exactly.” The boy looked down at his fidgeting hands.

“Not exactly how?” Rose asked, a little bit of trepidation working itself into her stomach.

“Not exactly in the fact that I stole the device and the TARDIS and decided to come and get you myself.” The words were spoken to the floor and came out in so much of a rush they sounded much like a single word.
