Fandom: Young DraculaPairing: N/A Length: c. 24,000 Author on LJ: N/A Author Website: Fanfiction.net AccountWhy this must be read:
This one is quite unusual for the fandom in that it is written first person. It's told from Robin's point of view, telling the story of how he tries to fill in the missing gaps in his memory after the end of series two. It's a really unique take on how things might have panned out after Vlad wears the crown - including a bit of Will!back story - and explores the themes of growing up, moving on, and leaving childhood behind. Sorry for the bit of a late start! I'll be driving the van for American Idol RPF this month. This fandom is so interesting bc if a story is good it's very rarely missed by anyone that's in the fandom. So I'm just going to rec my absolute faves for people outside fandom/just getting started bc there are some absolutely fantastic authors. This month will be all Kradam (Kris Allen/Adam Lambert) stories with one surprise pairing thrown in there. :) Fandom: AMERICAN IDOL Pairing: Kris Allen/Adam Lambert Length: 50k Author on LJ: seperis Author Website: on her LJ Why this must be read: Seperis is definitely my favorite author in the AI fandom, and this story is my absolute favorite of hers. It's set several years after the 8th season of American Idol and it is the ultimate example of a "get-together" fic in this fandom that's done well. I don't know if I even have words to describe how amazing this story is. Kris and Adam's personalities are spot on, and the pacing of their relationship is honest, subtle, and heartfelt. It's emotional, hilarious, and ridiculously hot. So go! Read, enjoy, leave the author some love. (this is) not a statement

Fandom: HARRY POTTER Pairing: Aberforth/Grindelwald, Albus/Grindelwald Length: ~7,000 Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]Author Website: N/A Why this must be read:I loved the unusual point-of-view used in this piece, the dark humor of the narrator works so well within the story as Aberforth, Albus and Gellert damn themselves to lives of torment and loss, each man guilty for the events that occurred. Here is what I know for certain.
Aberforth Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald both hated Albus Dumbledore. Despite their seemingly insurmountable differences, it was this fact alone that brought them together. That hate was the central truth in both of their lives.
I love hatred. Hate that strong can bond two souls, you know.
But stop there, I'm getting ahead of myself. When it started...well, before it started between them, they both loved Albus. I'm oversimplifying that as well. Neither of them ever stopped loving him. Not really. In the end, that was what drove them to it.
Nothing can make a person act more cruelly than love. I had not learned that yet, back then. The Antelope and the Lion

Fandom: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Pairing: Leoben/Kara Author on LJ: carnographyAuthor Website: Fic IndexWhy this must be read: So, a while back The Gold and the Grey was recced, and I am reccing this remix because it is both an awesome fic in its own right and a textbook example of how changing a POV can change everything about a story, even when the plot stays the same. The original was in Caprica's POV, this one is in Leoben's. It's a short story about a gray day on New Caprica, and that sounds so simple, but it's a lot more than that. It is a deft exploration of Leoben's character and thought process, and a filling-in-a-gap-in-canon, all at once. ( snippet ) The Gold and the Grey (Edge Hill Remix)

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH Pairing: none Length: ~ 12 000 words Author on LJ: not known Author Website: HEREWhy this must be read: Why? I recommend this story because it's a very funny one. There is a case (of mistaken identity), there is a lot of banter (of first quality) and there is a female character that is REALLY lost :) The door swung shut, revealing a white-faced lovely lady clinging with both hands to one of his iron skillets. "Who are you?" she demanded before he even had a chance to recover his tongue. "Where's Ken Hutchinson? Did you do something to him?" Hutch gaped at her blankly for a moment. She was the one with a potential weapon--albeit probably not a risk, the way she brandished it--and yet he found himself stretching out a hand reassuringly. Then her words sunk in. "Ken--" "Yes," she nodded, anger beginning to overcome her fear, "Ken Hutchinson. He'll be back any minute now, so you'd better get out of here." Hutch risked a glance away from her, around the dimmed room with its beautifully set table and flickering candles, a lingering hint of his own cologne in the air, and suddenly it all became very clear. He shook his head, turning back to the girl as he mentally began adding to his list of things he planned to do to his partner when they met again. She was still waving that ridiculous skillet, green eyes bright with fear and fury. Yeah, definitely Starsky's type. Hutch let his other bag drop, bringing up his second hand also in a placating gesture. "Did, uh, Ken tell you he has a partner? Starsky?" The skillet faltered a little. "You're Starsky?" Then lowered altogether. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know. Ken didn't mention that you'd be here. Um, we were just having dinner to talk over some business..." Drive a Mile in My Torino
